This was our second game in our debut season and we had Stokes Valley.
With their abilities unknown to us, we had to make sure we started the game off strong. Taking to the field first, we were able to get 3 outs with five batters up, the first two outs were made before the runners reached 1st base and the third was struck out by Cherie Paku.
The next three innings we were able to restrict the number of batters up in an innings to 3 or 4 hitters. We achieved 3 up 3 down and a double play before game was called after only 53 minutes.
Our top fielder for the game would have to be Kerry Wiggins who assisted with all three outs in one innings. Again our batting was excellent, securing three runs in the first innings and then 6 in the second all before an out was made
The top of the order did well to secure safe hits to get on base, allowing the next batters to bring them home. Margaret Marsh again batted excellent, getting on base 4 out of 4 times and adding two more runs to her name.
Others to score runs were Nicole Clarke, Tammy Waitere and Wendy Gray with 2 apiece and Cherie Paku and Emma Matthews with one each.
Overall an excellent game played by all with a final score of 10-0.

Spirits were high and nerves were shaky. That was the atmosphere on the journey to our first competition game in the Hutt Valley Women’s Major B competition.
We were up against an experienced and very social team; the Dodger’s Divas who were old hands to the competition.
Already having encountered them twice in pre season games with mixed results, the girls were unsure about how this would turn out and whether we could settle our nerves to play the game to our fullest.
With a great start in the first innings, we managed to secure two runs with the first 3 batters up when Nicole Clarke sent a triple base hit over third base moving Margaret Marsh from 1st base to home and than Tammy Waitere hitting out to centre allowing Nicole to advance to home.
Nicole Clarke Tammy Waitere
This happened in both the first and second innings. By the end of play, both Margaret and Nicole took 3 runs apiece. Emma Matthews, Wendy Gray and Pare Lee all made safe hits which allowed other team members to advance around to home.
Other top batters included Tammy Waitere who managed 3 safe hits out of four and a walk, while Cherie Paku secured 3 hits.
Cherie Paku
Overall the girls did excellent with their batting including two new players Juanita Arnold and Lisa Bull who are new to the game.
Fielding was at times not the best with miss communications and silly errors. There were moments of pure excellence and others of “what just happened”. Cherie Paku did a superb job at pitcher, taking 3 strike outs while Margaret, Nicole and Tammy managed a run down when a runner tried to steal 2nd. Outfield managed some beautiful catches and infield worked together to make the outs.
With a few hairy moments in the third innings allowing Dodgers to score 5 runs and some questionable decisions from the umpire, we managed to take the game 9-7.
