Roadrunners win the 18u Triple Crown Summer Nationals Championship!!!

The Roadrunners finished up their 2008 summer with a BANG, by winning the 18u Triple Crown Summer Nationals at Myrtle Beach, SC!!!

After going 3 - 0 in pool play scoring 29 runs and only giving up 3 runs the Roadrunners earned the #1 seed heading into the championship bracket.  The end of pool play also meant that for the rest of the tournament we would be with out Luke Bailey, Cody Stubbs and Daniel Tuttle as they all headed to the East Coast Pro Showcase.

Our first game in the bracket was against the Macomb Inferno which we won 11-1.  The second game of the day and bracket was against the Eastern Shore Hurricanes with the score ending at 13-2.  The Roadrunners now where headed to Friday and the semi finals.

The final day of the tournament started off with a pitching duel witch pitted the Roadrunners with Jon Reed pitching against the Red Gamers.  Jon was up to the task winning the duel 1-0.  With that win the Roadrunners moved on to the Championship against Team Georgia.

The Championship game would go back and forth between the two teams and would go to extra innings tied at 7-7.   Due in large part to Tommy Corbin and James Connell.  Tommy who had driven in 5 runs in the game including a bases loaded double off the center field fence to tie the game in the 4th.   And James who threw 4 shut out innings and would eventually get the win.  The Roadrunners would load the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th.  After a pitching change for Team Georgia and a pinch hitter for the Roadrunners the next pitch hit the Roadrunners batter to end the game on a HBP.

The Roadrunners had a great tournament offensivly by scoring 62 runs.  They also had great pitching as they only gave up 13 runs.

Congratulations to the Roadrunners on finishing the year on such a great run!   And for winning your 3rd National Championship in 4 years!!!

Also additional congratulations to 2 Roadrunners who were honored by Triple Crown with Jon Reed getting Defensive MVP and Tommy Corbin getting the Offensive MVP of the event.  Way to go guys!!!

Roadrunners repeat as National Champions!
The votes are in and tallied and the Roadrunners have repeated as the National Champions. USASportsrankings.com, a national poll which is voted on by coaches, parents and administrators released their final national rankings with the Roadrunners as the Champions. Like wise when Travelballselect.com, a scouting site for travel baseball who covers travel baseball across the country, released their final rankings the Roadrunners were on top again. This is the second year in a row that the Roadrunners finished on top of both polls. Way to go Roadrunners!

Roadrunners season recap 2006
The Roadrunners finished the season with a 48-9 record. The Roadrunners scored 492 runs (8.62 runs per game) while allowing 175 (3.07 runs per game) and throwing 15 shutouts. The team finished with 4 tournament championships under their belt, winning the Seminole Slugfest (Co-Champs), Northeast BCS Qualifier, Midwest BCS Qualifier (Cincy Flames Classic), and now the Perfect Game BCS National Championship. The Roadrunners also had an impressive 5th place finish at the Junior Olympics. They played in two 16u events (Junior Olympics and the Perfect Game WWBA WS) going 10-3 respectfully. They also had two second place finishes in the Triple Crown North Atlanta Open, and the USSSA State tournament. The Roadrunners played 42 different teams in their 57 games while trying to find the best competition they could from around the country. It would have been much easier to stay around Atlanta and compete against the same teams week in and week out, but we chose not to. The team started the year with the goal of defending our 2005 National Title, I think that they did just that!

http://www.daily-tribune.com/NF/omf/daily_tribune/archive_display.html?[rkey=0038729+[cr=

Miles Head also made the news in Fayette county as the "countys top baseball newcomer". You can go to http://www.neighbornewspapers.com/articles/2006/06/21/344/10222401.txt for the complete article.

A new addition to our players in the news is Cale Elam who has pitched very well for Oktaha HS this fall. Go to http://www.muskogeephoenix.com/sports/local_story_265214033.html for details.

We are proud of all our players. It is nice when they get recognized by their communities for their efforts and hard work. Keep it up boys as I am sure we will be reading a great deal about more of you in the future.

Roadrunners fall short at USSSA State
The Roadrunner competed in the USSSA State tournament last week. We started out pool play with the 14U East Cobb Astros. With not a lot to gain but every thing to lose the Roadrunners came out and won 8-0 behind the strong pitching of Jordan Cooper. In the second game of the night the Roadrunners played the East Cobb Panthers, who had just won the BCS Qualifier the weekend before at East Cobb, and won 15-0. Cale Elam pitched the 4 inning game with no hits allowed.

That was good enough to give the Roadrunners the #1 seed and pitted us against the East Cobb Slammers in the opening round of the double elimination tournament. The Roadrunner would cruise to an 8-0 win in that game as well with Daniel Tuttle and Cale Elam combining for the shut out. The next opponent was the East Cobb Eagles with the Roadrunners allowing their first runs of the tournament but still winning 12-2 with Bennie Keys getting the win. The next opponent was the East Cobb Astros. The Astros would come away with the win 10-7, knocking the Roadrunners to the losers bracket.

Our first game on Sunday was against the STaF Yankees, who had fought long and hard to get to that game as that was their 9th game of the tournament. Anthony Bazzani took the ball and threw a 75 pitch complete game no hitter. The only runners to get on were HBP. Way to go Anthony! That put us in the championship against the Astros again. Trevor Walch took the hill and was pitching well until he had an apparent arm injury in the 3rd inning. We all hope and pray that it is nothing serious. With Trevor coming out and Cory Betterson spraining his wrist the Roadrunners were able to pick themselves up and come away with a 4-2 win forcing the "what if" game.

The Roadrunners pitchers for what ever reason had a hard time throwing strikes as we allowed 10 walks in the game and got down as much as 10-2 before the Roadrunners came storming back in the 6th and 7th innings. The Roadrunners displayed what they are capable of offensively with some blistering line drives and two home runs one by Brennan May in the 6th and one TOWERING shot by Bennie Keys in the 7th to get the score to 10-9. In the 7th Daniel Tuttle came up with one out, he got one strike then hit a booming shot that was foul. The next pitch was well off the plate and the umpire rung him up taking the bat right out of his hands. Miles Head then came up with 2 away, Miles had a great day at the plate and in the field. The Astros pitcher quickly went up 0-2 then Miles hit a line drive to right that the right fielder laid out and caught. It was a great rally that unfotunatly just came up a little short. We are proud of the "TEAM" for hanging in there and continuing to play hard. We continue to get better every week. Some interesting stats from the tournament are in 8 games we went 6-2, scored 71 runs and gave up 24, threw 4 shut outs and had 2 no hitters. I think that those are pretty impressive numbers! Lets keep our heads up and get ready for the Junior Olympics in Jupiter, Fl next week.

Future looks bright for Roadrunners
The future looks bright for the Roadrunners, as the 7u Wills Park Slammers won the Dizzy Dean State Championship last Saturday. Tommy's little brother Luke plays on the Slammers. As many of you may not know the current group of Roadrunners started out in the same fashion when they were 6. The current Roadrunner roster has three players that started playing together at that age together. With the current Slammers team there is a very good core group of players that will surely start up another generation of Roadrunners in the near future.

The Slammers just finished playing in the Dizzy Dean World series and finished in 3rd place out of 42 teams. Some interesting stats from the season, the Slammers outscored their opponents 361-180! The Slammers played in four tournaments winning two and coming in third in the others. Their final record for the season was 26-7! Way to go Slammers!!!
