Bandits Three-peat at the South Gwinnett Shootout

The Bandits kicked of the 2007 season with our annual trip to South Gwinnett to play in the shootout. We opened up with a 7-2 win against the host South Gwinnett Storm. Hunter had a strong game, pitching four innings and hitting his 1st homerun of the season. In game 2 the Bandits defeated North Gwinnett 4-1 getting a homerun from Kane. On Sunday we begn the day with a slugfest against the Wills Park Wild Dogs. Kane Homered 2 more times and Travis and Clint each hit one. The final score was 20-10 in favor of the Bandits. The Bandits moved to the championship game against the South Gwinnett Mustangs with big Kane taking the mound. Zayne and Cameron both homered and Kane pitched a no-hitter for the 11-1 victory and our 3rd shootout title in a row. All of the Bandits played well getting timely hits from Andy, Grayson, Taylor and Jordan. Next week we stay in Winder for the annual Dugout Classic.

Bandits Take 1st at the Winder-Barrow Dugout Classic

The Bandits stayed home over the weekend and played in the annual Winder-Barrow Dugout Classic. On Friday the Bandits opened with a 17-0 win over Berkley Academy and a 4-1 win over a talented Rockdale Rhinos team. Grayson went the distance in game one for the win and Travis and Hunter pitched very well against the Rhinos. On Saturday we defeated the Georgia Titans 7-0 with Jordan, Zayne and Andy combining for the shutout. Travis homered in the game. Saturday night the Bandits picked up another win by defeating the Oconee Warriors 11-3 behind good pitching from Clint and Cameron. On Sunday we faced the Rhinos again in the championship. Kane, Cameron and Travis combined for the 5-0 shutout and the championship. Over the course of the weekend the Bandits had strong pitching and played great defense allowing only 4 total runs (2 earned runs) and making only 3 errors in 5 games.

Disappointing Finish for Bandits at NIT

The Bandits visited Decatur, GA for the weekend in hopes of winning their 3rd tournament in a row. Our 8:30pm Friday night game had to be rescheduled because the field light would not come on, giving us a 9:30pm game on Saturday in addition to our other 2 scheduled pool games. Saturday we opened up with a 14-2 win over the Georgia Yard Dogs. Grayson went the distance on the mound and Hunter homered. We played sloppy defense making 4 errors. In game 2 we defeated a talented Dekalb Tigers team 6-4 with Taylor going 4 strong innings and Hunter coming in to close out the game. We were again sloppy making 5 errors. In our 3rd game of the day we faced the Mentium Athletics and came away with a 7-4 win and the #1 seed from our pool. Cameron and Travis combined for the win against Mentium. On Sunday we must have left our bats at home because we managed only 2 hits against a very fundamentally sound Elite Red Sox team. The Red Sox played an errorless game and our bats went cold as we fell 4-0 finishing the tournament in 3rd place. Hats off to the Red Sox who obviously were a little hungrier than the Bandits on Sunday. Next up the Atlanta Super NIT.
