Geneva Baseball League: Welcome

We hope you all had a good off season!! The calendar has been set and the equipment and uniform orders are in the works. Following our introduction of the pitching machine and participation in Swiss Little League Championships over the last couple of seasons we are planning the following for the 2013 season:

• Coach and Player Clinics facilitated by league commissioners/coaches and access to baseball fundamentals and practice organization videos-(as soon as you pay your 2013 registration fees, you will receive a link and password to the GBL website where coaches and players can access and play numerous training videos).
• Participation in Swiss National Baseball League (one team of select players aged 15 and under)
• Continued participation in Swiss Little League Championships with opportunity to go to European World Series
• Reusable Uniforms--unlike in the past, beginning this year players will only be able to keep their caps at the end of the season, and all team jerseys and pants will need to be turned in to be recycled for the following season. The GBL Executive Committee took this decision both to save the league unnecessary expense and to also do our bit to make the league more sustainable in all its aspects.

Registration

2013 Registration is NOW OPEN!!! As was the case last year, the sooner the registration fee is paid, the cheaper it is.

2013 Registration fees

• CHF 100 if paid before 16 March 2013 (Skills Assessment day)
• CHF 125 if paid by13 April 2013 (Opening Day)
• CHF 150 after 13 April.

When registering, PLEASE NOTE THE NEW FIELD ASKING FOR PLAYERS' NATIONALITIES. We need this for the Swiss National League which require a certain number of Swiss/EU players.

Key Dates

• 16 March 10am (rain date 23 March) - Skill Assessment (Vessy)-Coaches Pitch, Minors, Majors and Softball ONLY-no skill assessment for T-Ball players.
• 13 April 9am - Opening Ceremonies (Vessy)
• 22 June noon - Closing Day Picnic (Vessy)

Our regular season schedule will continue to have games/practices Saturday 9-12am at Vessy and Monday evenings 6:30-8:30pm at Evaux.

Volunteers

As usual, as several of our coaches have moved away from Geneva and will not be returning for the 2013 season, we need a number of parents to step up and volunteer to be a head or assistant coach.

We also need volunteers to help out with Skills Assessment Day on 16 March (23 March in case of rain).

If you are able to coach in one of the leagues or volunteer on skills assessment day, please contact the pertinent league Commissioner directly, as soon as possible (even if you are a returning coach) with a copy to genevabaseball@hotmail.com:

About the Geneva Baseball League

The Geneva Baseball League is a non- profit, volunteer- run baseball league in Geneva, Switzerland. We aim to teach the fundamentals of baseball in an environment which promotes sportsmanship and working together as a team.

Each year from April to June, boys and girls from the Geneva area participate in the Geneva Baseball League. The 2012 season had over 240 players; boys and girls ages 5 to 17 from all nationalities are encouraged to participate.

The League has four levels of play within the coed baseball league (boys and girls) ages 5-17. We also have an all-girls' softball league for girls ages 12 -17. The four levels for baseball are T-ball (ages 5 to 7), Coaches pitch (ages 8 to 10), Minors (ages 11 to 13), and Majors (ages 14 to 17).
