| Been Enjoying Richmond BMX and want to do a little to help? Want to be part of the decision-making team? We're meeting this weekend (Saturday, 10 January) to get 2009 started and we'd LOVE to see you there. If you'd like to attend, drop us a line here, and we'll make sure you get the 4-1-1. | Another Richmond BMX Racing Season is on the record books... as is the 2008 Virginia State Series. With a whole bunch of fingers crossed (PLEASE... no more rain...) and early-rising, hard working volunteers, some four wheelers, concrete mix, shovels, rakes, patience and luck, we succeeded in getting the 2008 Virginia State Final race in on 18 October. An all day soaker on Friday had even the most optimistic of us thinking we'd have the day off, but BMXicans from all over Virginia pitched in to get the track safe enough to race. The move to a two-moto transfer system helped keep us close to schedule on a cold and damp Saturday in the park. Many thanks to everyone involved in our successes. Richmond, NOVA, Hampton, and Winchester staff and riders put together a great after-race buffet, while State Board members did the math on points for year-end placement. Thank you's go out to all, and to everyone donating and sharing what they could to make this event work out. Special mention should be made of our friends at Ukrops Supermarkets for their generous donation of bottled water, and our friends at City Ice for donating their products. There were quite a number of photographers in attendance, and if you visit our 'Track Photos' link on the left, and here, on Phillip Sanders Photography's website, and here, on BMX Backyard and here, on Split Second Photography's Site and here, on Little Back River Photography's Site, you can see some of what we saw out there. While it's true that the racing season is officially over here in Richmond, other tracks still have some events left on the their schedules. Winchester finishes up with a double race and pizza party now scheduled for November 1st. NOVA BMX is racing into November and Hampton Supertrack races all the way through November. Remember, Virginia hosts the NBL's President's Cup and Christmas Classic in December, so mark your calendars for that. There's a chance we may have the odd Saturday or Sunday gate practice in Richmond before the year is out... be sure to check back for updates to the schedule. Thanks for a great racing season. | | | | | Best seats in the house... | After a generous donation from Virginia Motorsports Park, some sigificant elbow grease from Paul, Doug Potts, and a host of other volunteers, we have bleachers on the elevated platform overlooking turn 2 (tucked safely behind a new chain-link fence). The last few screws were placed just as the first few riders showed up for Sunday's local race, and with plenty of time before Saturday's big race. Additionally, our tower and starter's booth got some new paint, a new pad is poured for the potties, and a lot more got done this past weekend. Thanks once again for all of you who've helped Mr Luck and the other track leaders get it all in shape for our big event! | | Congratulations to all those local racers who made the annual trek to Louisville for the NBL Grand National, and those folks taking Regional Championship honors at Woodward this month. We're thinking that we'll get some updated info this week as to who did what, and who placed where in the national standings, soon, according to the folks at the NBL, and we'll be sure to fill you in. If you have something to share, please drop us a line. | |
 | Best birthday cake ever. Yeah, that's a real live replica of Richmond BMX, paved turns and hill and everything, in frosting. Our little friend David had a birthday this month. Good news is that he doesn't have to class up -- he's still a 5-and-under kind of guy. Melissa made this little work of art here and sent us pics. You can't help but run through a lap in your mind when you look at it, can ya? Happy Birthday, David! | |
