season was held in conjunction with the year-end banquet on Friday October 26th
2007 at The Kanata Sports Club. For those who were unable to attend, here is a summary
of the items discussed, voted on, and agreed to during the meeting.

- Finances
- The treasurer (Duane) presented a financial statement
showing assets of $9121, liabilities of $12562, and a net equity of ($3440).
The report is available in the Handouts section of the web site.
- A motion was made to pay the league’s creditors a total
of $5000, bringing the amounts owed for loans made to the league in 2006
by three members all to approximately $1000. The motion carried and the
cheques were issued at the meeting.
- Registration and sponsor fees were discussed.
- Fees are to remain the same for 2008.
- Collection of old jerseys proved to be a valuable
cost-saving measure, saving the league several thousand in jersey
expenses. The practice of only ordering jerseys as needed will continue
going forward.
- Rule changes were discussed.
- A motion was tabled proposing
that any player may wear metal cleats. It carried by a vote of 11 for to
7 against.
- Equipment / diamond issues were discussed.
- There was some discussion regarding the use of other
diamonds in order to cut down on the exposure to cars and the resulting
broken windows the league has to deal with. In the end it was decided that
the league would stay at A.Y. Jackson but lobby the city for additional
netting and signage.
- The brand and model of softballs was discussed – a return
to a .50 COR was mentioned as a possibility, but such balls are very hard
to source. In the end it was decided that the league would stick with the
optic yellow .47 COR Worth Red Dot balls.
- The league was down to 4 legal / useful bats by the end
of the 2007 season. There was some concern that the purchase of good new
bats would only temporarily help since new bats tend to get stolen from
time to time. In the end it was decided that enough of the players use
their own bats that the league would stick with 4 and order more only
when it became necessary.
- Additional catcher’s equipment was likely to be required
for 2008 since there was only one good set left, and two sets are
generally needed during the mid-season tournament.
