2004 AGM / Banquet Minutes

The Annual General Meeting for the 2004 Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League season was held in conjunction with the year-end banquet on Saturday October 16th 2004 at The Kanata Sports Club. For those who were unable to attend, here is a summary of the items discussed, voted on, and agreed to during the meeting.

  1. The Executive Committee for the 2005 season is comprised of:
    President: Eric Rosenquist
    1st Vice President:  Dayton Larocque
    2nd Vice President:  Eric Colvin
    Equipment Manager:  Dylan Waugh
    Treasurer:  Charlie Durning
  2. In order to encourage participation in the AGM, all those in attendance qualify for a draw with the winner receiving free registration for the following season. The winner of the draw for the 2005 season is Neil Cooke.
  3. There was a discussion regarding whether it was beneficial to keep the AGM and Banquet together or revert to the old practice of holding a separate AGM in August. The consensus was that keeping the AGM and Banquet together resulted in a much better turn-out and should therefore be continued.
  4. An issue was raised regarding the return of former players to the league after an absence during which they were replaced by a player from the waiting list. While it was generally agreed that it would be nice to place the returning player back with his old team, there was no agreement on a policy that would cover all such scenarios. See item #5 for a specific scenario that was voted on.
  5. The following rule change was put to a vote: "If a player who is on a team's roster after draft day leaves the league and then returns before the tournament, his old team has the option of taking him back. If they exercise that option, the player that replaced him (or that player's replacement if they've also left) is returned to the waiting list."  The vote was in favour of the rule change by a count of 13 to 12.
  6. It was agreed by a vote of 16 to 11 that the pinch runner rule for 2005 will revert to its previous format where there are no restrictions on pinch runners. A pinch runner must still be the player most recently called out, but they can run the bases without any special restriction and there is no limit on the number of pinch runners per game.
  7. It was agreed that the playoff schedule, once published, should not be altered for any reason other than weather or field problems. Player availability should not be taken into consideration.
  8. It was proposed that metal cleats be allowed at all times. The vote carried by a count of 16 to 12.
  9. It was agreed that the 2005 executive and captains consider expanding the regular season schedule to 22 games from 16, with 3 games every 2 weeks instead of just one per week. Interest from the general membership (and willingness to increase the registration fees) can be ascertained at sign-up time assuming the executive can arrange additional diamond time and umpires.
