Long-time Minor Hockey Executive and Coach receives Brian Kilrea Award
2009 Recipient for the Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching Charles Chamberlain has been coaching and volunteering in hockey circles throughout the National Capital Region for many years. His energy, dedication and professionalism has established him as a leader to youth in both school and hockey associations. Words used to describe Charles are: inspiring, dedicated, motivated and passionate. Throughout his many years of coaching, both girls and boys have benefited from his leadership. His sense of fairness, equality and calmness on the bench makes hockey a rewarding experience for all. This year, if not for Charles’ hard work and persistence in recruiting a parent willing to dedicate time to coaching a team, approximately 17 intermediate aged youth would not have played organized hockey. This is just one of the ways Charles goes above and beyond what it means to be a volunteer. His involvement this year includes being the Head Coach of the Gloucester-Cumberland Girls Hockey Intermediate 1 House League team and Assistant Coach with the Ottawa Intermediate “A” team. He is also the Discipline Director for the Metro Ottawa Girls Hockey League helping to ensure that young women playing hockey in our city are treated fairly. For many years he also held the position of President of the Gloucester-Cumberland Girls Hockey Association. Charles’ influence in keeping today’s youth active and healthy in a positive sports environment is instrumental in the development of our future sports leaders. He is a very deserving recipient of this award. Related story: http://centretownnewsonline.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1002&Itemid=102 |
