GBTP 6 - An Excellent Fans Weekend
For the 6th year running the Colchester Gladiators organised the Great British Tailgate Party (GBTP 6) at the Green Man in Wembley, before the recent NFL game in London.
Again the event ensured that during the weekend of 26th, 27th & 28th October 2012 there was only one place to be for NFL fans - the Green Man.
The party started a day earlier this year with live music and dancing on the Friday evening at the Green Man in a warm up to the rest of the weekend. Then on Saturday evening it was the welcome return of the very popular animated snail racing, followed by a special version of the game show 'Play Your Cards Right', with one lucky punter winning a large cash prize on the night, and entertainment continued into the early hours of Sunday morning. As normal there was a great mixture of fans present who had travelled from around the globe for the Rams vs Patriots game.
On the Sunday morning the Gladiators were there bright and early ensuring all the pitches were ready for the opening time.
Fortunately the weather was cool but very kind this year, with the rain holding off throughout the day, as hoards of football fans from around the globe headed for the Green Man to enjoy the party. Plenty of NFL fans from all teams mixed with BAFA National League fans and even fans from the old NFL Europa league still attended and all were taking in the friendly atmosphere.
The crowds enjoyed the refreshments available at the Green Man, including the two outdoor BBQ's that were set up especially for the event. New for this year Harwich Town Brewing Company supplied two special beers for the event 'Rams Gold' & 'Patriots Bitter' which were sampled by crowds and the New England Patriots Official UK Fan Club had a marquee at the event. Also on show were trade stands including official NFL merchandise from Great American Sports, Football America UK, a book signing by Adam Goldstein (Tailgate To Heaven) and members from BAFRA (British American Football Referees Association) were also in attendance.
With a very large amount of NFL fans returning to the Green Man after the Wembley game to watch the later NFL games on the venues' TV screens the party continued late into Sunday night.
The NFL are due to return to London twice in 2013 and plans are already being made for next year's GBTP 7 (& maybe even GBTP 8)...
