Congrats U17 Girls!

Congrats to the U17 Girls on their Championship win in the Oregon Invitational.  The girls played in the U18/19 Bracket and did not allow a goal all weekend.  The girls outscored their opponents 9-0.  Congrats to the team, Coaches Chad Hendricks and Craig Hendricks, and manager Connie Vang!

Congrats U17 Boys Maroon!
Congrats to the U17 Boys Maroon team on their Championship win in the Schwan's USA Cup in Blaine, MN.  The boys won their Championship game 2-1 in double overtime against Waunakee despite having 3 injured players.  Congrats to Coach Dan Fischer and Managers Cindy Wienkers, Nancy Proffitt, and Kyle Hoops.

Congrats U13 Boys Black Team!
Congrats to the U13B's Black team who took first place in the Stevens Point Soccer Classic Tournament.  The boys did an outstanding job, and did not allow one goal the entire tournament!  They won their games 4-0, 10-0, 5-0, and 9-0.  Congratulations to Coach Jim Nash, Jr. Assistant Coach Scott DeGroot, Manager Michelle Thompson, players, and especially to the parents for dealing with the extremely early game times Saturday and Sunday!

Congrats U11 Boys Black Team!
Congrats to the U11 Boys Black team for an outstanding showing in the Stevens Point Soccer Classic Tournament.  The boys dominated all three of their games, outscoring  their opponents 25-3.  Great job to coaches Jim Nash, Jr. and Chad Johnson, as well as Manager Ann Cleremont, players and parents!

Congrats to the U16B's Maroon team who took 2nd place in Rockford at the Watermelon Tournament. Congratulations to Coaches Jim Nash Sr and Donn Clermont, manager Ann Clermont, players, and parents in their great showing.

Congrats U12B's Maroon Team
Congratulations to our U12B's Maroon Coaches Blair Bandow and Mike LaMere, manager Lisa Pritzl, players, and parents for a great showing in the same tournament.  They trounced their opponents on their journey losing only to Tosa Arsenal but they scored the only goal against Tosa in the tournament. Coming home with 2nd place is awesome for these guys. They are applying to play in the state league for fall and have try outs tomorrow night. Best of luck to this team.

Congrats U13B's State Team
Congratulations to U13B's State team Coaches Jeff Kahr and Chris VanSaders, manager Donna Schumacher, players, and parents for their awesome showing at the Brookfield Select Tournament this past wk end.  The 13's beat Brookfield Red in their championship game 2-1 today taking first place.  They have try outs Wednesday, best of luck to all players.

Ian Lofdahl selected as member of the Wisconsin ODP 1995 Boys State Team for 2009

Ian Lofdahl, a member of the Green Bay Lightning U-14B State team, has been selected as a member of the Wisconsin ODP 1995 Boys State Team for 2009.  Lofdahl had been assessed by ODP coaches throughout the assessment process which began in the Winter of 2008.  Coaches considered technical, tactical, physical and psychological abilities demonstrated during program activities when naming the team. 

He will attend Regional Camp at the Region II ODP Event which will be held July 11-15 in Rockford, Illinois.  He will compete against ODP State players from other Region II states with the opportunity to be named to the Region II ODP team.  Region II includes Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio North and Ohio South.

 Congrats Ian!



Tuesday, May 12
U16 Maroon Boys Captures 2nd Place
The U16 Boys Maroon team captured second place at The Spring Premiere Challenge in Appleton on May 2-3.  They tied Howard, and beat Team Ozaukee and Grove United (IL) to advance to the championship game where they lost in PK's to Regent Revolution U19 in the U16-U19 tournament bracket. 

Congratulations to the boys, Manager Ann Clermont and coaches Jim Nash Sr. and Donn Clermont.


Tuesday, May 12
Congrats U13B's State Team
The U13B's State Team advanced to the round robin play in the Wisconsin State Championship after defeating SC Waukesha Gold this afternoon in their play in game, double OT and shoot out! 


Congratulations to their players and Coach Kahr and Coach Van Saders.


Best of luck in the tournament Memorial Day weekend not only to the 13B's but also the U12B's Kahr team playing up in the 13's and the 14B's State team.  The U17B's have their play in game vs Mequon Red next Saturday....best of luck to them too.

Coach Bob Rickards named Coach of the Year once again!
Our own Coach Bob received the Fox River Classic Conference (FRCC) Coach of the Year Award once again for 2009 (also named this last year 2008). His previous honors include being  named the Fox River Valley Conference (FRVC) Coach of the year for 2006, 2007, & 2008, All Area Coach of the Year by the Green Bay Press Gazette in 2005, 2007, & 2008, and the Bay Area Conference Coach of the Year in 2002.  He also led the Notre Dame Academy Triton Boys to back to back Division II State Championships in 2007 and 2008 and made a great showing in the WIAA State Semi-finals tournament this year 2009!  Congratulations Coach Bob and thank you for all that you do for youth soccer in NE Wisconsin!

Congratulations to the U13B's State team players and Coach Kahr in their first appearance at the Wisconsin State Championship.  The team went 2-1-0 losing to an awesome Bavarian team that we will be watching to see if they take the entire tournament.  Good job boys!

U17B's Beat Regional Team at Wisconsin State Championship advancing to Semi Final's
Congratulations to the U17B's, Coach Dan Fischer, and Guest Coach Scott Pfaff on advancing out of round robin play at the Wisconsin State Championships.  They beat MK United 3-1, FC Milw White 4-0, and Madison 56'rs White 1-0.  The 56'rs are ranked first in the Regional First Division Blue bracket.  They now play Paper Valley Elite next Sat. at 11:30.   Good luck to the team!

U14 State Players Progress in ODP Tryouts

Green Bay Lightning would like to congratulate U-14B State players KennyD Xiong and Ian Lofdahl.  They have been invited to additional training in the Wisconsin State ODP Tryouts.  Xiong is the '94 Boys Pool and Lofdhal is in the '95 Boys Pool.  The WYSA Director of Coaching, Jim Launder, has scheduled a series of ODP "SUPER CAMP" trainings for players and goalkeepers that were Regional camp holdovers in 2008, or have been identified during the tryout process for 2008-2009 as being of merit.  Xiong and Lofdahl have been identified as players of merit.

GBL has success in WIAA Boys Soccer Tournament series play!
GBL Players and Coaches have awesome showing at the WIAA state high school boy's soccer tournament series. 

Congratulations to the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans and Coach Blair Bandow (U12B's) on their first trip to the sectional's. 

Congratulations to the Preble HS Hornets and Coach Chris Becker (U16G's) and Neenah HS Rockets and Coaches Harry Kelderman and
Jim Nash Sr. (U16B's) for earning a trip to state in Division 1.  

Congratulations to the Notre Dame Academy Tritons and Coaches Bob Rickards (GBL Technical Coordinator)
and Brian Gerondale (U13G's) on their back to back Division II State Championships.

U15 Maroon Boys Capture First Place

The U15B-Maroon team finished first at the Oregon Internationale Tournament
in Oregon, WI on July 12-13.  They advanced to the playoffs and won their
semi-final match 2-1 to advance to the title game.  In the championship
they beat Oshkosh United 3-0 to win their first-ever tournament
championship!  Congratulations to their players, Coaches Jim Nash Sr. and
Donn Clermont, and Manager Ann Clermont.

Green Bay Invitational Results

Green Bay Lightning teams make impressive showing at the Green Bay Invitational Tournament

 

 The U-11 Boys Maroon team won the championship, going 5-0.  Outscoring their opponents 32-5.  Congratulations to their players, Coaches Blair Bandow and Mike LaMere, and managers Lisa Pritzl and Joe & Kris Warner.

 

The U12G's Maroon team had a very impressive showing at the Green Bay Invitational taking second place after a double OT and shoot out with the Appleton Fire U12 State team in the championship game.  They went 3-0-2 in the tournament.  Congratulations to their players, Coaches Brian Gerondale and David Kirschling, and managers Cindy Wienkers and Nicole Nohr. 

 

The U12 Boys maroon team took 1st against GBL U12 boys black.  Congratulations to their players, Coach Jeff Kahr, and manager Donna Schumacher.  Also Congrats to the U12 Boys Black team, Coaches Jim Nash, Jr and Scott Degroot, and manager Jeff Piette.


The U13 Boys State team won their pool with 3 wins.  In the semi-finals they beat FC Green Bay with a 4-0 shut out.  They lost to Howard Hurricanes in the Championship to take 2nd place.  This is the 3rd year in a row this team has placed at the GBI.  Congratulations to Coaches Jim Nash, Jr. and Scott Degroot, and managers Joyce Derenne and Dan Derenne.


The U15 Boys Maroon team placed 2nd at GBI on June 15, 2008. The team went 3-0-1 in pool play while outscoring their opponents 11-2 including 3 shutouts.  They lost in the championship to state-level competition by the score of 0-1.  Congratulations to the players, Coaches Jim Nash, Sr. and Donn Clermont, and Manager Ann Clermont.


U16B's Maroon team took first place with a 5-0-0 record including three shut outs, 17 goals for and 2 goals against at the GBI.  Congratulations to their players, Coach Bill Lanser, and managers Cindy Wienkers and Nancy Proffitt.



The U19B Silver GB Lightning Team took 1st place.  The guys went 4-0 with scores of 2-0, 1-0, 5-0 and 2-1. Great team effort!  Congratulations to Coach Brad Willems and manager Shelly Wilz.

Coach Bob Rickards named Coach of the Year once again!
Green Bay Lightning would like to Congratulate Coach Bob Rickards for again being named Coach of the Year by the Green Bay Press Gazette.  He also led his Notre Dame Tritons to the Division 2 State Title.  The team also received the Sportsmanship Award.

U13 Girls Maroon Team Wins 2nd Place at Cost Cutters Tournament

U14 Boys Maroon Team Wins 2nd Place Title

The U14 Boys Maroon team won the second place title at the Wisconsin Rapids Tournament on June 10, 2007.  They beat Stevens Point and Wausau United and they tied Princeton to win their bracket.  In the semi-finals they won against Wausau United in a shoot-out to go to their first-ever championship game.  They played Howard hard, but ended up losing and taking second place.  Congratulations to the players, Coach Jim Nash, Sr., and Managers Ann and Donn Clermont!

U17 Boys Tournament Champions

During the weekend of April 21, the U17 Boys team travelled to Marquette, MI to play in the Superior Dome Tournament. The boys went 2-0-1 to take home 1st place. They didn't allow a single goal during the entire tournament! Congratulations to the players, Coach Dan Fischer, and Manager Jeff Fischer.



Wednesday, May 23
U19 Boys Win Flat Grass Title

The U19 boys team beat FC Magic 1-0 in the championship game to capture the Flat Grass Tournament title.  They allowed only one goal to be scored against them throughout the entire tournament against opponents from Madison, Mount Horeb, etc.  Congratulations to the players, Manager/Substitute Coach Katie Maloney, Substitute Coach Mark Bushman, and Head Coach Dennis Miller.

For the second year in a row, Bob Rickards who has been awarded the Fox River Valley Conference Girls' Soccer Coach of the Year for his role as head coach at Notre Dame High School. Rickards is also GB Lightning's Coaching Director.  Congratulations, Bob!

Bob Rickards Named Coach of the Year
Bob Rickards has been chosen as the High School Girls Soccer Coach of the Year for the Fox River Valley Conference.  Bob is the soccer varsity girls and boys head coach at Notre Dame High School.  He is also Green Bay Lightning's Coaching Director and coaches our U13 girls state team.  Congratulations Bob!

U17 Boys Capture 4th Championship

The U17 boys team continued their undefeated season by winning the Oregon Internationale Tournament championship. The boys won their group with scores of 3-1, 5-1, and 8-0. They went on to beat Wausau 1-0 in the semifinals and then defeated Freeport, Illinois 2-0 to claim the championship title. The U17 boys completed an amazing feat as they have won every tournament they have played in this season. They claimed their fourth championship title by winning the Upper Midwest Tournament in Neenah. They suffered their first loss of the season to Delavan, despite out-shooting them 13-3. They went on to beat Oshkosh 3-1 and Neenah United 5-1 to win their group. They defeated Libertyville, Illinois 3-2 in the semifinal match and won the championship game 5-1 against Wausau. Congratulations on a spectacular season to the players, Coach Dennis Miller, Manager Mark Bushman, and Manager Katie Maloney.

U11 Maroon Girls Team Win Runner Up Title

The U11 Girls Maroon Team claimed their fourth trophy of the year by taking second place at the Upper Midwest Tournament in Neenah. The girls won their first four games including the semifinal by a combined score of 26-0. In the championship game the girls played tough for the first half, but in the second half they were wearing down in the 95 degree heat as a very talented Neenah team proved to be too much and went on to win the championship. Congratulations to the players, Coach Dennis Miller, Asst. Coach Melissa Hager, Asst. Coach Andrea Everson, and Manager Judy Everson.

U16 Girls Capture 2nd Place

The U16 girls team finished second at the Rainbow Classic Soccer Tournament in Rockford, Illinois this past weekend. The results were based on a total point system. After starting their fourth game late due to weather, and having to stop and start that same game because of lightning, the girls came back to tie the game at 0-0 which put the Lightning team in second place. Congratulations to the players, Coach Mike Mastalir, and Manager Lynn Parent.

U13 Girls National Team Wins Championship

The U13 Girls National Team finished first at the Border Battle Soccer Tournament in Hudson. They played four teams from Minnesota and gave up only one goal throughout the tournament. They beat Minnetonka 2-0 in the championship game. Congratulations to the players, Coach Chris Becker, and Manager Steve Jossart.

Youth soccer: Lightning strikes at Green Bay Invitational

Although 149 teams took part in the 21st annual Green Bay Soccer Invitational over the weekend, it was the local teams that made their presence known.  The Green Bay Lightning topped the list of area winners, as the U13 girls and the U11, U15 and U17 boys finished first in their brackets.

The invitational featured boys and girls teams ranging from ages 11 to 19.

On the girls side, the Lightning also finished runner-up in five age divisions.  Other area winners include Green Bay Metro, which defeated the Lightning 1-0 in U15 girls competition. De Pere Select also captured a title, beating out Oshkosh United in the U18 girls bracket in a points system.   The Howard Hurricanes earned the U13 boys title with a 1-0 victory over the Fondy Fugitives, while Allouez finished runner-up in three age divisions on the boys side. They defeated De Pere 2-0 and Seymour 3-1 to advance to the championship game where they beat Appleton Chase 3-1. Congratulations to the players, Coach Dennis Miller, Asst. Coach Melissa Hager, Asst. Coach Andrea Everson, and Manager Judy Everson.

U19 Boys Finish Second

The U19 boys team finished in second place at the Brookfield Pepsi Cup Tournament. They were 2-1 in regular play and lost to Eau Claire in the championship game. Congratulations to the players, Back-up Coach Jack Melotte, and Manager Steve Pahl.

U13 Girls State Team Wins First Place

The U13 Girls State Premier team won the championship at Culver's A/B tournament. They won the U13 Girls A Select Division in dramatic fashion, beating their opponents in a shoot-out. Congratulations to the players, Coach Bob Rickards, Manager Dave Burbach, and Manager Tom LaPlante.

U15 Maroon Boys Team Captures First Place

The U15 Maroon boys team finished first at the United Serbian Tournament in Racine. They played teams from Stevens Point, Oak Creek, and Milwaukee and gave up only one goal throughout the entire tournament. They beat RSC Red from Racine 4-0 in the championship game. Congratulations to the players, Coach Tony Pierce, and Manager Scott Pfaff.

U17 Boys Win Championship

The U17 boys team won the Culver's Tournament in Milwaukee with a dominating 7-1 championship victory over the LCU Hawks. They advanced to the championship game with impressive victories over Shorewood 3-0, F.C. Magic 4-2, and American Spirit (Indiana) 2-1. Congratulations to the players, Coach Dennis Miller, Manager Katie Maloney and Manager Mark Bushman.
