Green Brook Hockey Club: Learn to Play info
In Spring 2003, the Green Brook Hockey Club launched a brand new division aimed at teaching the youngest players in our league all the basics of roller hockey. Since then, this division has become one of the league's most popular ones and continues to provide important training and development for these players so that they will be ready in future seasons to compete in the older, more advanced, divisions. While ages of kids in this division range from those just turning 5 to about 7 or so, the division allows kids that are just starting out to learn the basics of skating, stick handling, passing, and team play in general. This season, the division plays on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM. The coaches structure the session so that the first half is dedicated to learning drills and sharpening skills, while the remaining time is used for scrimmaging between the teams. The proper equipment is the same as the rest of the league, which is: HECC approved helmet, elbow guards, shin guards, cup and supporter for boys, hockey stick and gloves. A mouthguard and shoulder pads, while not mandatory, are highly recommeded. To see pictures from our Learn to Play Division go to Week 6 Feature Game for Fall 2004. We've had a great response from all the kids and parents that have participated in this part of our program, with many recommending it to others that have since joined.
