Our 2007 season wrapped up with an overall record of 55-17 and another provincial title in a very successful season for our girls. Our program has now won 5 of the 7 past Ontario titles this decade and represented ON at Canadians in 6 of those years as well.

We had several outstanding individual performances in 07 topped by our two 3rd year captains Nicole Abel and Steph LeClair. Abel finished off another great year on the mound with a 23-4 record and 0.77 ERA. She will be missed and finished off her 3 year Gator Midget career with an amazing 80-14 record and 2 two provincial title wins. LeClair returned from a busy year at college (with Abel at Wayne State) and with the JWNT to hit .404 and score 33 runs in 124 plate appearances.

Other notables include our 2nd year captain Sara O'Malley who fielded exceptionally all year at SS (only 11 errors in almost 350 innings) and also hit .424 scoring 56 runs and chipping with 50 RBI's. Rookie Rebecca Stanley adjusted well batting .404 herself in 202 PA's and driving in 55 teammates. Catcher Julianne Proniuk was our best hitter all year batting .457 on the season with incredible extra base stats (12 doubles, 11 triples and 11 HR's) driving in 68 runs. Our new pitcher Erika Paulsen also had a solid year in support of Nicole with a 21-9 record in her initial season as a Gator.

Our girls had a fantastic weekend in Whitby capped by a 4-1 victory over Ching Arsenault to capture another Ontario Championship for our Midget Program. While others can talk, our players have now won an unprecedented 5 Provincials in the past 7 years this decade and are making our 6th trip in 7 years to represent Ontario in Edmonton in a couple of weeks.

Ironically the title game was our 50th win of the season in our 62nd game with Nicole Abel winning her 3rd game of the weekend and her second provincial title in 3 years on the hill. Steph LeClair scored two runs in the final with a pair of doubles and Sara O'Malley capped a great weekend at SS and at the plate with a key two run single in the 4th.

2005 Tryouts/2004 Wrap
The tryouts for the 2005 version of the Gator Midgets will be held on 3 consecutive Sundays in September (12,19,26) at Exhibition Park at 1pm each day. Please contact Coach Vallance if you need information or are planning to attend from an association outside of Guelph prior to first workout for planning purposes.
We just finished a very successful summer season going 49-7 overall with tournament wins in London, Kitchener and Fort Erie (regionals) and a 2nd place finish at the Compuware tournament in Michigan. The disappointment of having our streak of Provincial titles end at 3 along with similar streak of representing Ontario at Nationals will hopefully be erased by the start of a new season.
We will be losing some key parts of our group including Lorelea Rice, Michelle O'Gorman and Dani Pappano who did great things for our program for the past 3 summers. This past season alone Rice went 11-1 on the mound, Pappano batted .500 and slugged .750 while O'Gorman capped her career as a Gator hitting .416 and scored 36 runs. We also lose co-captain Cortney Patteson and Karlie Burnell after they spent their last 2 midget seasons with us and Megan Davis who had a 9-3 record on the mound for us in her last season.

GATORS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
August 04, 2005
Ile Perrot, PQ - The Guelph Erik's Cabinets Midget Gator girls capped an incredible week on Sunday by edging the BC White Rock Renegades 1-0 in the Canadian Championships, to return the title to the Royal City. The Gators last won the title in 1997 and have been second twice and third once since then.

Molly Yetman completed a run of three straight shutouts in the playoff round by allowing only 2 hits in the final and striking out 11. Lauryn Longo tripled to lead off the third inning and scored one out later on a Steph LeClair liner to centre for the winning run. Yetman had a tremendous week with 5 wins in 6 starts (including 4 shutouts and a no hitter) and recorded 67 strikouts while walking only 1 hitter intentionally in the tourney. She was voted the MVP of the playoff round while Longo got player of the game in the final.

The Gators reached the final on Saturday evening with their first win over White Rock and giving national team pitcher Danielle Lawrie her first defeat of the week. Jenna Campagnolo led off with an outstanding at bat, fouling off several pitches before getting a 9 pitch walk. With one out Robyn Haig was hit by a pitch to put 2 on and Ashley Fitzgerald drilled a liner to left centre to get the locals on the board. One out later Marcie Bruder hit one off the left field fence to score Haig and give Yetman all the cushion she would need as she fanned 11 and only allowed 3 hits on the evening.

In the first playoff game on Friday, the Gators downed the defending national champs from Scarborough 1-0 in a huge game. Scarborough had won 2 consecutive national championships (1-Bantam and 1-Midget) and were undefeated on the week so the locals stopped a 27-game winning streak for the Spirit at this level. Yetman allowed 4 hits and fanned 7 while Campagnolo singled in the third was sacrificed over by Sarah Berry and scored on a Haig single to centre for the decisive run.

On the week Haig was named an all star at 3B and maybe had the key hit drilling a 2 run homer in the 7th to score her and LeClair in the final pool play game to give the Gators momentum for the playoffs.
