GARY WEST HOSTS 11-YEAR OLD TOURNAMENT FINALS
Gary West Little League's Brunswick Field was the site of the Regional finals of the inaugural 11-year old tournament series. The series featured a best two out of three game duel between the District 1 representative Valparaiso Americans and the Dyer All-Stars, winner of the District 2 tournament.
The series got off to an exciting start with a pitcher's duel in game 1. In classic All-star fashion, with the score knotted at 0-0. the game was won with sixth-inning, two out walk-off homerun by the Dyer All-Stars.
Game 2 was all Dyer, with Dyer taking the Regional crown with a 6-1 win. Dyer now moves on to the Semi-state finals. Gary West Little League congratulates the Dyer All-Stars and wishes them all the best as they move on in the tournament. Despite losing two straight games, one in heartbreaking fashion, we also give a big GWLL salute to the Valpo Americans. To all of the All-Star teams and fans that traveled and played at our field, thank you for coming out and we hope you enjoyed the hospitality.
Last but not least, a heartfelt thank you to all of the Gary West grounds crew, concession stand workers, and volunteers who took time to help make this tournament a success. Every team, from the coaches to the players to the fans were truly impressed with the quality of service, the excellent condition of the field, and the efforts made by the GWLL volunteers. A JOB WELL DONE!!!

Major League All-Stars fare well in Tourney Debut
The Gary West Major League All-Stars opened the District One tournament with a rousing 7-2 win over the Gary Midtown All-Stars. Darius Wilson (Brooklyn Royal Giants) turned in a dominating pitching performance, giving up just two hits a complete game gem. Displaying a devastating fast ball, Wilson pitched a 17 strike out complete game.
Offensively, Wilson received help from Travis Starks and Farooq Muhammad, both of whom play with the first place Kansas City Monarchs. Starks broke the game open in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded triple. This victory sent Gary West to the second round against a tough Merrillville team that beat the Longfellow All-Stars 17-0.
In the second round, Gary West lost to the Merrillville team 5-1 in a game that was closer than the final score may indicate. Despite an inspiring, gutty six-inning pitching performance by second-year All-Star Cody Stuckey of the Birmingham Black Barons, costly errors late in the game allowed an opportunistic Merrillville to send four runs home late in the game.
Gary West had several opportunities to take control of the game in the fifth inning. In the fifth, with Merrillville leading 3-0, Gary West loaded the bases with no outs. However, after scoring one run on a wild pitch, Gary West squandered the chance, ending the inning with two strikeouts. The game ended with Gary West again threatening, stranding Farooq Muhammad on third base.
Gary West moves to the lower bracket of the tournament, playing again Tuesday, July 6th at Longfellow Field against the winner of the Portage/East Chicago game. Longfellow Field is located on 43rd and Whitcomb in Calumet Township.
