Project PASS is designed to educate and equip student-athletes for college. Student-athletes and their parents are misinformed and misled as to the preparation for collegiate entrance and academic success. Through Project PASS, LADYS, Inc. will expose Clayton County female student-athletes and parents to four core areas that will assist in collegiate success: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Six-Week test preparatory course:In 2007, the state of Georgia was rank #46 based on their average SAT score of 993. According to Fulton County, one of two Georgia counties whose SAT scores increased, their increase in SAT scores were due to SAT preparation courses and preliminary SAT exams. Project PASS will coordinate 2 six-week SAT preparatory courses prior to a national test date in the spring and fall. In collaboration with Clayton State University, the SAT preparatory courses are designed to educate student-athlete on the math and verbal areas of the test and successful test taking skills. Project Pass will conduct these courses twice a week for two six week periods.
Student-Athlete College Preparatory Workshops: The Student-Athlete College Preparatory Workshop is designed to educate the college bound athlete on the recruiting and eligibility rules as they move from high school to college, as well as give them an insight as to what is expected of a college student-athlete. It is never to early for an athlete to begin considering the type of institution they wish to attend and to discuss with their family and advisors what they will need to accomplish in high school to ensure a wide range of choices for college. There is a school for every athlete, and it is extremely important for a student-athlete to choose the best fit for them at the next level. As previously stated, among the more than 700 female athletes competition in the Clayton County Public School system, less than 5% of these athletes receive athletic scholarships at the collegiate level. The Student-Athlete College Preparatory Workshop will consist of speakers and presentations that will educate, empower and enlighten. The workshops will discuss:
Speakers for the workshop will include college athletes and coaches. They will discuss transition from high school to college, and athlete expectations from recruitment to acceptance in a collegiate program, respectfully. Project Pass will conduct the Student-athlete College Preparatory Workshops twice a year in the spring and fall. Collegiate Campus Tours: Many student-athletes are not awarded the opportunity to visit college campuses prior to enrollment. Project PASS College Campus Tours will coordinate weekend trip where students-athletes are exposed to “college life”. Student-athletes will tour college campuses, speak with college administrators and athletes, and witness a collegiate competition. Project PASS College Campus Tours will coordinate 5 weekend trips focused on schools in Georgia, Florida, North/South Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama. Student-athletes will tour a several campuses in these states over a 3-day weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Since these tours are educational in nature, schools will allow students to be absent on Fridays. Project PASS College Campus Tours will give student-athletes the opportunity to visually see their goal and develop a desire to pursue collegiate enrollment.
By competing in sports, student-athletes develop an attitude of determination, teamwork, persistence and self-discipline. Good academics combined with athletics are about winning in life. Each student-athlete should have the opportunity to excel in academics and sports. Project PASS gives student-athletes the education, exposure and information to make prudent decisions about their collegiate future. Project PASS’ goal is to make certain that each student-athlete with a desire to succeed has the opportunity. Project PASS will service over 200 student-athletes a year.
Collegiate Exposure Events
Many athletes with a desire to compete at the next level must put themselves in the arenas that will make their dreams come true. Many collegiate coaches attend basketball exposure events to evaluate potential student-athletes. Project P.A.S.S. will coordinate opportunities for players to play in exposure events across to country for maximum exposure.
