8th Annual Saturday Basketball School Start on August 15, 2009
Saturday Basketball School (SBS) consist of 10 weeks of basketball fundamental instructions throughout Southern GA. SBS will take place at schools and facilities in Clayton and Henry Counties to ensure development of the girls in the those areas.
Conducting these clinics in the community gives SBS an opportunity to:
-Teach the basic fundamental,
-Identify which girls are interested in basketball and enhance their skill level,
-Introduce the sport of basketball to those who never had an opportunity to play, and
-Produce future athletes to compete scholastically.
Saturday Basketball School sessions are divided into three sessions:
-3rd - 5th Graders
-Middle School students
-High School Students
A player may be asked to participate in a different age group based on fundamental strenght.
During the 2 hour sessions, players are taken through a series of fundamental stations and drills. A typical session will strengthen the following areas:
1) Dribbling
2) Passing
3) Lay-ups
4) Defense
5) One-on-One
6) Post and Guard Play
7) Shooting
SBS will also give players an agility and speed workout. Each week brings on new challenges to develop a sound foundation.
As part of the GOGirlGO grant that LADYS, Inc. received, SBS will conduct the GoGirlGo curriculm which deals with life building training. Girls will also be able to receive support and information regarding life issues and challenges that they may encourter during their developmental years.
