13U Pearls face International competition!!!! In one of the most exciting games of the summer, the Ga. Pearls 13U team emerged victorious over their international competition from the French island of Martinique! Clayton State University's men's head basketball coach Gordon Gibbons annually brings high school aged players to Morrow, Ga for team basketball camp and introduces these young athletes to American basketball. The young ladies from Martinique play a very physical brand of basketball and speak very little English if any at all! Despite the cultural differences, one thing was the same, intense competition! The Martinique team was made up of young ladies mostly 16 and 17 years old but not very experienced in the game of basketball. After being here for Coach Gibbons' camp they have displayed a very high aptitude for learning the game. Just as the Martiniqueans adjusted to American style of basketball, the 13U Pearls adjusted to their opponent’s physical style of play. With the score tied and less than a minute to play, the Pearls did an excellent job of executing their full court pressure defense resulting in back to back turnovers and buckets which sealed their 4 point win! This was a great experience for our Pearls to compete against players from another country and see just how universal the game of basketball really is!

16-Under Pearls win D1-Spects Super Regional The Georgia Pearls 16 Under team captured the 2009 D1-Spects Main Event Super Regional tournament title held at Georgia Tech on Sunday. The road to the championship began for the Pearls with a rare Friday night pool play win over the Georgia Express by a score of 52-45. LaQuinta Gallishaw came up big for us in the second game leading us in scoring with 13 points but we came up a little short on the score board losing to the Midstate Magic by a score of 41-43. Entering bracket play as the #2 team from our pool, we defeated the Jacksonville Pacers in impressive fashion by a score of 59-39. Jocelyn McGarrah led all scorers with 14 points followed by Larrisa Carter and Alexis Booker with 11 and 10 respectively. In the semi-final game, Jocelyn McGarrah stepped into the starting line-up at the point guard position replacing LaQuinta Gallishaw who had a church commitment. Jocelyn did an outstanding job playing the entire game! We controlled the game from the tap as we dominated the Lady Vols in route to a 59-41 victory and a trip to the championship game! Larrisa Carter led the scoring with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Jasmine Manning (12) and Jessica Foster (10). The championship game was a rematch against the Midstate Magic and the third meeting between the two teams in 2009. In a closely contested game we captured the Super Regional title with a 53-43 win! Larissa Carter (tournament MVP) and Jasmine Manning (All-Tournament team) completed an impressive weekend, scoring 21 and 13 points respectively in the championship game. It was a tremendous weekend for us with each player making major contributions! The trio of Alyse Lewis, Larrisa Carter and Alexis Booker controlled the offensive and defensive boards with Alyse leading the way in blocked shots in every game. Our success this weekend could largely be credited to our stepped up guard play. Sydnee Heidt, Amanda Torres, LaQuinta Gallishaw, Desiree Watson and Jasmine Manning provided the scoring boost that we needed as well as perimeter defense. CONGRATULATIONS and see you at Disney!!!

The GA Pearls Girls Basketball Club is now forming teams for ages 9-16. We are looking for young girls who are committed and dedicated to learning and competing in basketball. Players and parents must understand that this is not recreation basketball, and that it will take a level of commitment from parents and players. For players ready to play at the next level, AAU offers the sophistication and complexity that recreation leagues and even some school programs can't match. And for some girls, the opportunity to learn a lot more about a sport they already love is just plain fun. AAU is the highest level of youth basketball. The GA Pearls strives to be an basketball club that offers almost as many opportunities to play and develop as there are girls who come to play.
