The GA Pearls Girls Basketball Club is a Christ-centered club dedicated to empowering young girls 8U-16U spiritually, academically, and athletically.

The GA Pearls Girls Basketball Club's mission is to fundamentally develop the basketball skills of young girls and coordinate programs that will prepare them to excel at the collegiate level.

We teach the fundamentals of basketball with simplicity and understanding while exemplifying quality and excellence. Through the teaching of basketball fundamentals and strategies of play, the all-volunteer staff aspires to instill discipline and self-esteem, with special emphasis placed on academic excellence and spiritual awareness. In addition, these players are placed in an environment of cooperative learning through teamwork. This fosters the ability to make prudent choices and instill respect for authority, traits that are important as they develop into mature adults who will make positive contributions to society.

The Georgia Pearls Girls Basketball Club stands on the 6 Pearls of Wisdom:

P erseverance
E ncouragement
A ttitude
R espect
L oyalty
S pirituality

The GA Pearls Girls Basketball Club have two programs to focus on the development and skills training of each athlete.

The Rising Stars Program

Ages 8-Under to 13-Under

The Rising Stars Program is a year round program for young girls to learn, compete and achieve. Teams will start forming in October. During the months of November - February, teams will train and compete in local leagues. Players on the winter teams are not guaranteed a spot on the spring competitive teams, however they are in the best position to advance. The winter teams give younger players an opportunity to see if they are ready to participate at the competitive level, as well as give coaches an opportunity to prepare for the competitive spring schedule. Tryouts for the Spring AAU/YBOA season starts in January. Players are selected to play in at least 6 tournaments between March and June. There is minimal travel. All teams are preparing for the Nationals in July which can be anywhere in the USA.

Between August and September all players are encouraged to participate in our skills training program, Saturday Basketball School, a ten-week skills training program.

***** There will be two 13U teams.  The 13-Under Purple Elite team will be a travelling team competing in collegiate exposure events.***

College Bound Program

Ages: 14-Under to 16-Under

The GA Pearls believes that if a girls decides to continue playing basketball on a competitive level at this age, then they desire to play basketball at the collegiate level. The College Bound Program focuses on preparing the athlete, both academically and athletically, to excel at the next level. All athletes become part of the LADYS, Inc.’s Project P.A.S.S. (Preparing Athletic for Scholastic Success) program, which educates and assists athletes and parents on the collegiate admission and recruiting process. Project P.A.S.S. consists of:

  • collegiate campus tours,
  • recruitment readiness workshops,
  • SAT Pre-Courses, and
  • competing in College Exposure Events.

Teams in the College Bound Program compete in mostly collegiate exposure events to create a high level of visibility to be evaluated by college coaches. In 2008, players competed in more than 55 games between March and July in such state as Florida, Tenn., NC, Nevada, and Georgia.

Please call 770-369-7779 or email us at info@gapearls.com for more information.

The Georgia Pearls Basketball Club was created by LADYS, Inc.(Leadership And Development of our Youth in Sports), a federally recognized 501 c 3 not-for-profit community service organization that informs young girls about the benefits of participating sports. Started in 1996 by Hall of Famer Darlene Beale Norris, LADYS, Inc. has created opportunities in sports for young girls to learn, compete, and achieve. Lord, give us the insight to recognize our responsibilities.

Help us to strenghten our weakness.

Allow us to be better in those things we practice.

2009 SuperRegional
Ga Pearls defeat Midstate Magic for Super Regional Championship
Monday, June 1
16-Under Pearls win D1-Spects Super Regional

The Georgia Pearls 16 Under team captured the 2009 D1-Spects Main Event Super Regional tournament title held at Georgia Tech on Sunday.  The road to the championship began for the Pearls with a rare Friday night pool play win over the Georgia Express by a score of 52-45.  LaQuinta Gallishaw came up big for us in the second game leading us in scoring with 13 points but we came up a little short on the score board losing to the Midstate Magic by a score of 41-43.  Entering bracket play as the #2 team from our pool, we defeated the Jacksonville Pacers in impressive fashion by a score of 59-39. Jocelyn McGarrah led all scorers with 14 points followed by Larrisa Carter and Alexis Booker with 11 and 10 respectively.  In the semi-final game, Jocelyn McGarrah stepped into the starting line-up at the point guard position replacing LaQuinta Gallishaw who had a church commitment. Jocelyn did an outstanding job playing the entire game! We controlled the game from the tap as we dominated the Lady Vols in route to a 59-41 victory and a trip to the championship game! Larrisa Carter led the scoring with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Jasmine Manning (12) and Jessica Foster (10). The championship game was a rematch against the Midstate Magic and the third meeting between the two teams in 2009.  In a closely contested game we captured the Super Regional title with a 53-43 win!  Larissa Carter (tournament MVP) and Jasmine Manning (All-Tournament team) completed an impressive weekend, scoring 21 and 13 points respectively in the championship game. It was a tremendous weekend for us with each player making major contributions!  The trio of Alyse Lewis, Larrisa Carter and Alexis Booker controlled the offensive and defensive boards with Alyse leading the way in blocked shots in every game. Our success this weekend could largely be credited to our stepped up guard play.  Sydnee Heidt, Amanda Torres, LaQuinta Gallishaw, Desiree Watson and Jasmine Manning provided the scoring boost that we needed as well as perimeter defense. CONGRATULATIONS and see you at Disney!!!

So You Want to Be a GA Pearl?

The GA Pearls Girls Basketball Club is now forming teams for ages 9-16. We are looking for young girls who are committed and dedicated to learning and competing in basketball. Players and parents must understand that this is not recreation basketball, and that it will take a level of commitment from parents and players. For players ready to play at the next level, AAU offers the sophistication and complexity that recreation leagues and even some school programs can't match. And for some girls, the opportunity to learn a lot more about a sport they already love is just plain fun. AAU is the highest level of youth basketball. The GA Pearls strives to be an basketball club that offers almost as many opportunities to play and develop as there are girls who come to play.

9U-13U teams are forming now to participate in a Winter AAU League.Tryout schedules for the Spring Competitive Season will be posted by Dec. 15th.

Do you love the sound of balls dribbling in a dusty gym, the squeak of shoes, the clock buzz, the shriek of the whistle? The Georgia Pearls can probably help. Faint of heart need not apply

AAU (Amateur Athletic Union)www.aau.org and YBOA (Youth Basketball of America)www.yboa.org games are mostly on weekends and there will be travelling for competitive teams.

Evaluation dates start in January, however if you are interested please email us at
info@gapearls.com, so we may send you more information and include you on our mailing list. You may also call us at: 770-369-7779.
