GAINESVILLE GOLD/YMCA
Gainesville Gold /YMCA Form Partnership

26-JAN-09:  In an unprecedented youth sports partnership, the North Central Florida YMCA and the premier fastpitch softball organization of North Central Florida, the Gainesville Gold, have agreed to join forces for the betterment of fastpitch softball in the Metropolitan Gainesville area. YMCA Metro Sports Director Jamie Beck and Gainesville Gold President Kathy Seader have signed an agreement that will allow the Gainesville Gold to call "home" the softball portion of the YMCA Southwest Sports Complex. In return, the Gainesville Gold will provide capital improvements, hold softball events and tournaments, and will provide recruiting and coaching expertise for the future YMCA Recreational Fastpitch Softball League.  Kathy Seader said, "This partnership meets the needs of two established local sports organizations dedicated to the development of girls' athletics." Jamie Beck added "When looking for a solid foundation for our future Recreational Fastpitch Softball League, and a group that could carry our standard, I couldn't think of anyone better than the Gainesville Gold, a highly respected and successful fastpitch organization." The partnership will undoubtedly have long ranging positive effects for the development of fastpitch softball in the Gainesville area, and has left many people very enthusiastic about the future of the sport. Announcements of when the new YMCA Recreational Fastpitch Softball League will start, and what capital improvements  made by the Gainesville Gold to the Southwest Sports Complex will be in the near future.  Meanwhile, the two masterminds of this partnership, Jamie Beck and Kathy Seader, continue the heady and exciting process of planning the future for both organizations and fastpitch softball in the Metropolitan Gainesville area.

Each year the Gold organization places most, if not all, of the seniors playing at the 18U level onto college teams. Most are scholarship athletes, some are walk-ons, but all are athletes that will continue to play the sport they love at the highest level. This year is no different.

GOLD HEAD COACHES FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2007 NAMED
Our Head Coaches for the Spring/Summer 2007 season have been named. They are, in ascending order of the age groups they coach:

Brent Coates Named Gold 10U Head Coach
Brent Coates, a Captain in the Florida Highway Patrol, is a long-time Gainesville Gold coach who will take the helm of the Gainesville Gold 10U for the second consecutive year this Spring/Summer 2007 season.

Coach Coates has coached for the Interlachen Little League & Babe Ruth, as well as an Assistant Coach for Interlachen High School JV (1 year) & Varsity (3 years). He started coaching for the Gold in 1998, and coached through 2004 as Assistant Coach with Paul Silverman for 14U, 16U, 18U, & partial spring with 10U.

Coach Coates daughter, Samantha Coates, is a Gold graduate who played on the 14U, 16U & 18U. She earned a scholarship to University of Charleston (West Virginia), a Division II university, and is in her senior year playing catcher and third base.

Welcome back, Coach Coates!

Kathy Seader Named Gold 12U Head Coach
Coach Kathy has been part of the Gold organization for the last four years as a parent, Board member and Head Coach.

She has been playing and coaching softball most of her adult life, with the past seven years being dedicated to girls fastpitch. Coach Kathy started coaching young athletes at the 10U level when she became involved with the Bronson Youth League in 1999. There she served as both softball commissioner and Travel Ball Director, and in 2001 became the president of the local softball charter. She also served as District Commissioner for Babe Ruth Softball for two terms. Presently, she occupies the position of President of the Gainesville Gold.

Coach Kathy has continued to coach every season, summer and fall, since 1999. She counts as one of her highlights the pleasure of developing some excellent athletes over the past six years, some of who still play in the Gold organization, and two Fall State Runner-Up finishes in 2005 and 2006. Her husband, Gerry Seader, has also been coaching in the Gold for 3 years, and their two daughters, Annie and Frannie, are Gold athletes.

Coach Kathy returns to coach the 12U Gold for the second year, where she looks forward to another great Season!

He has always been very active on the Gold Board of Directors, holding the Presidency from 2001 to 2003, and recently holding the job of Treasurer.

He moved to Gainesville from Virginia to attend Law School at UF, where he earned a JD. Presently, Coach Paul is in private law practice alongside his wife, Nancy Wilcov, who is also an attorney.

Coach Paul began his softball coaching career with the Gainesville Girls Fastpitch league, and later went on to head the league for serveral years, helping lay a solid foundation for a league that remains very active to this day.

In 1996 Coach Paul came aboard the Gainesville Gold as an assistant coach, and has coached Gold teams ever since. His many coaching accomplishments as a Head Coach include a 10U State "A" Runner-Up, 10U National "A" Runner-Up, a 12U State "A" Runner-Up, and three 12U State "A" Championships.

During his Gold tenure, Coach Paul has also coached within the Gainesville-area school system. For several years he assisted at Eastside High School. Taking a break for two seasons, Coach Paul accepted the Varsity Softball Head Coach's position at P.K. Yonge for the 2007 season.

Coach Harvey returns for his second season as a Head Coach in the Gainesville Gold, ascending from 14U to 16U for the Spring/Summer 2007 season.

Gerry Seader Named Gold 16U-Seader Head Coach
Coach Seader has coached as an assistant every season of his 4 years in the organization.

Coach Seader began his softball coaching career in 1998 in the Bronson youth league, and coached several teams until 2003. He was influential in building the Bronson youth league, serving as Vice President for 2 years and then as President for 3 years. Coach Seader also coached several All-Star teams to Babe Ruth championships. He was also a founding member and senior Head Coach for the Levy Lightning from 2000 until 2003.

During his Gold tenure, Coach Seader has also coached within the Bronson and Gainesville-area school systems. At Bronson Coach Seader was the JV Head Coach and the assistant on the Varsity until his final season, when he took the Head Coaching position. In 2005, Coach Seader started coaching softball at Oak Hall School and helped coach the Eagles to their first ever District Championship in 2006. He is still coaching at Oak Hall which his daughters, Frannie and Annie, both attend.

Butch Monaghan Named Gold 18U Head Coach
Coach Butch has coached Gainesville Gold teams for the last 9 years. The team he coaches now is the team he formed in 1998.
