Hoopstar Silver: The Silver team opened up the Division I exposure weekend with a solid victory in the 15U bracket. They traveled over to Northview high and put together another victory before it was time to play in the semifinal game later on that evening. It was a much tougher game as the Silver team lost in sudden death overtime by a single basket. The last game was a switch in which a 14 year old team replaced the 15 year old team we were supposed to play and the Silver team pounded them. It was no contest. The Silver team finished the weekend 3-1. Great job.
Hoopstar White: The White team opened up the weekend with a tough loss in their pre-bracket game on Friday afternoon. They would bounce back and win three straight to go on to their bracket championship and win the title. In one game after being down 21-5, the white team stormed backed to come up with a hard earned victory. The White team finished the weekend with a stellar record of 3-1. Great job.
Hoopstar Royal: The Royal team opened up the weekend with a loss to Ga/Lina 76ers in a hard fought contest. It was offensive rebounding, turnovers, and poor free throw shooting that caused the loss. The team then played another pick-up game versus the Tennessee Glory because of a no-show. They were very athletic and skilled but we hung in there until the end due to tired legs. Saturday we blew out the Gainesville Warriors by 22 and lost a hard fought game against the Blue Chip All-Stars from Kentucky. Our last game against FGB, we simply wore them down with pressure and man-to-man defense in the end. The Royal team finished the weekend 2-3 but got some really good looks from many college coaches. Great job.
Hoopstar Black: The Black team opened the weekend murdering the Gainesville Warriors by 60 points in front of many college coaches. Then it was on to bracket play where we played a fundamentally sound Central Kentucky Angles team. We simply did not play well versus the Angels due to their size at all 5 positions. We moved on over to Northview and played the Tennessee Elite 16U and pressed them the entire game. We went from man to zone and zone to man. They could not handle our full court man to man pressure defense. The shots they were making at the beginning of the game simply were not falling at the end of the game. Our last game was played against the Louisville Lady Legends, who are also part of the EBF family. They were big and ran the floor well. Also they had a good shooter and a quick guard off the dribble. The game was close until the end in which we fouled and they made a couple of shots to end the game. The Black team finished 2-2 and attracted many college coachess each time they stepped on the floor. Great job.
Next stop: Georgia Tech for the May Day Classic, May 2-3. See you there.
Hoopstar White: Coach Overall’s team possess tremendous size and ability, it just hasn’t come together yet. The Hoopstars White went 0-3 this weekend barley losing to the Cagers while having the lead most of the game. It came down to turnovers, execution, and free throws. That is what decides games down the stretch. The Hoopstars white also lost to Georgia Elite and the Hoopsters. I am sure Coach Overall will get his troops to regroup and be ready for Charlotte.
Hoopstar Royal: The Royal team put that “dogg!” on the other teams! The Royal team went 3-0 on the weekend defeating Peak Performance, Carolina Quest, and the Georgia Peaches. The aggressive play of the guards and smash mouth play of the inside girls, the other teams could not handle. The coaches insisted that the girls play pressure defense the entire game, whether it was full court or half—the girls delivered. Great job ladies!!!
Hoopstar Black: The Black team had two easy games and one tough game at Georgia Tech over the weekend. They defeated the Douglasville Lady Tigers and Peak Performance. The girls lost a close one to Georgia Pistols. The team committed costly turnovers down the stretch that would have made the game theirs for the taking. With a strong guard rotation and very athletic forwards on the team, the Black team can really get up and down the floor!

Coach Stringer holds the distinction of being the first coach in NCAA history to lead three different women's programs to the NCAA: Rutgers in 2000 and 2007, the University of Iowa in 1993, and Cheyney State College (now Cheyney University of Pennsylvania) in 1982. She is the third winningest coach in women's basketball history, behind only Tennessee's Pat Summitt and former University of Texas coach Jody Conradt. She was honored as the Naismith College Coach of Year for women's basketball in 1993, and is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Georgia Hoopstars Silver team recently traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to play in the Nike Basketball on the Bayou college exposure tournament. The tournament attracted big name Division 1 colleges such as: UConn, Tennessee, Rutgers, LSU and Georgia to name a few. The Silver team, comprised of girls between ages 12-15 years old, competed up in the 2011 Division (10th grade).
Pool play consisted of competing against the Houston Hotshots and cross-town-rival, Wallace Prather Celtics. The Hoopstars blew out the Houston Hotshots and beat the Celtics, 53-49 in front of many college scouts. Moving on to bracket play as the #1 seed, their next opponent was All Ohio Red. The Hoopstars prevailed moving on to the semifinals to face the GA/Lina 76ers. It was tough game, but the Hoopstars pulled it out in the end and were on to the championship to face Southern Miss. Elite Black team in a late game on Thursday night. The girls were tired but pulled together for one last victory to bring home the championship.
All of the girls did a great job of playing as a team and representing the Georgia Hoopstars organization well. They received a lot of college exposure while attending the Bayou tournament; hopefully, that will springboard into next season. Great job!

"We are excited about joining the Elite Basketball Family, representing the Atlanta area," said Jonathan "JD" Davis, president of the Georgia Hoopstars. "Peach State basketball has built a strong reputation for quality college exposure events and player development camps."
"Preparing players to compete at the college level is our number 1 objective," Davis said. "For more than 10 years, colleges across the country have relied on the Georgia Hoopstars to prepare players to compete at the college level," Davis said. "During the past four years, we have helped more than 50 players achieve division I basketball scholarships.
"The Georgia Hoopstars' coaching staff focuses on helping each player advance her understanding of the game and individual skills in a team environment. In addition, their commitment to player development extends beyond coaching AAU, high school and middle school teams. They also coach at many top-level national camps. This partnership with the EBF will help even more players achieve their goals."
Players in the Georgia Hoopstars program will also have a chance to be rated by both the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report (Dan Olson) and the Southeastern Hoops Report (Brandon Clay). Between the two services, there are over 200 colleges that will have access to the evaluations on current Hoopstars. I look forward to working along with Georgia Hoopstars Program Director, Jonathan "JD" Davis, to make sure that the club remains one of America’s top travel programs.
Helping kids succeed…one scholarship at a time, Brandon Clay
From the Marietta Daily Journal on 01/03/08:
It didn't take long for colleges to notice Jasmine Blain.
The 6-foot-1 North Cobb junior forward began to receive attention from Division I colleges in the eighth grade while playing for the Georgia Hoopstars travel team and has continued to be noticed during her outstanding three-year career with the Lady Warriors.
So, it's not that surprising that Blain's future on the collegiate level has already been determined as she committed to Georgia Tech right before the beginning of her junior season.
Blain is the first North Cobb girls basketball player to commit or sign with a Division I college since Alana Tanksley signed with South Florida in 2001.
Blain is certainly showing why Georgia Tech was so interested in her this season, averaging 18.1 points and a little more than seven rebounds a game to help lead a talented North Cobb squad to a 10-2 record, the best start for the Lady Warriors in years.
While Blain is excited about her future with Georgia Tech, she realizes she still has a season-and-a-half left of high school basketball to play.
"I like (Georgia Tech) a lot and I'm really excited about playing college basketball, but I can't take it for granted," Blain said. "I have to keep working hard and take it one step at a time, because if I don't, (Georgia Tech) could take it away from me."
