Updates to the Background Check Rule

The old regulation regarding background checks set the minimum requirement at a statewide check of a Sex Offender Registry (SOR).   Starting in 2007, leagues must now conduct a National background check of the SOR, at a minimum, which includes all nationwide government SOR registries.

1.  Each league must now conduct at least a nationwide SOR check.
2.    Little League International is providing 125 free checks through LexisNexis, formerly ChoicePoint which goes beyond the minimum requirement and includes all United States SOR data plus criminal data in most states.
3.  Background checks beyond the first 125 free checks will cost leagues only $1 per check.
4.  Leagues must access the LexisNexis service through the Little League website at
http://littleleague.choicepoint.com
5.
Leagues can obtain information about LexisNexis and conducting background checks on the Little League website by clicking here.

If you have questions or concerns, contact  Dan Kirby or Jim Ferguson.  They can be reached by phone (570-326-1921) or by email at dkirby@littleleague.orgor jferguson@littleleague.org.

Teach Kids the Game of Baseball with"Play Ball"
Play Ball Header

A fun new board game is available to teach kids the mental game of baseball.   "Play Ball" is a game for players 4 and up.  It features "Dugout," Little League's official mascot.  Use the game with Tee Ball teams and have fun while teaching them how to react to all sorts of baseball situations.

If you're a coach, a coaches helper or just a parent that wants to help their child learn the basics of baseball then this game is for you. It was invented by a dad that helped coach his son's Little League machine-pitch team. I'm sure you've been there, the kids are doing great learning how to catch, hit and even throw the ball and then you get them on the field and they don't know what to do. It is very hard coaching 10 to 12 kids all at the same time the basics of baseball. Play Ball plays just like a real game of baseball but is slow enough to help the kids learn what to do when they get the ball. It really works.

Play Ball the Board game is offering a great opportunity for Little Leagues to earn money. Neubauer Enterprises LLC is offering Play Ball at an extremely discounted rate. This offer is for Little Leagues only and will not be offered to any other venue at this price.

February through April 2009 your local Little League can purchase games for as little as $5 per game with a minimum purchase of 50 games. A $250.00 investment (plus shipping) can earn your league $999.50 (selling the games at $19.99 ea). Imagine that! $999.50 minus approximate shipping and original cost, that is a profit of $649.50. What other fund raising program offers that? Just imagine if your Little League sold 200 games.

Make sure you keep your concession stand in mind when deciding on your total purchase. When the kids are coming up for their sno-cones and popcorn what a perfect opportunity for them to see Little League's board game. This is another fun fund raising idea.

District 4 President's Manual
The District 4 President's Manual is a reference tool for information, procedures, D4 forms, Little League forms, etc.  It's meant to be an all-inclusive reference manual.   It will be updated from time to time to reflect and include new information.

There are still some glitches in the "workings" of the manual - and those will hopefully be sorted out in the near future and fixed.

Pre-Tee Ball Guide

The leagues in Georgia District 4 were the first leagues internationally in Little League to be approved to operate a program for 4 year olds.  Much of that approval stemmed from the concept we had:  provide a fun environment for the 4 year olds, teach them a few fundamental skills, and train Moms and Dads to be future managers and coaches.

We accomplished those goals for leagues across the United States and internationally - the program is now approved for use by virtually all chartered Little Leagues.

The Pre-Tee Ball Guide was developed by Senoia President, Jerry Perez, and is the basis for a successful 4 year old program.   By following the weekly drills, the players will have fun and learn.  The Al & Al Getting Started manuals contain all the drills and fundamentals referred to in this guide.

As you operate your Pre-Tee Ball programs, please never lose sight of the goal - FUN for everyone.   Make sure you have plenty of high-fives, hugs, and end-of-practice treats for the players!

Coaches Curing Kids Cancer
Curing Kids Cancer
Coaches Curing Kids’ uses a simple concept:  Children's sports teams donate the money raised for the coach's end-of-season gift to childhood cancer research.  In return, the coach receives an original t-shirt, a certificate and the great feeling of helping kids kick cancer.  It's easy to organize with the "Team Parent" package available on their website.  www.curingkidscancer.org

The money you donate to Coaches Curing Kids’ Cancer goes to cutting edge pediatric cancer research.

Grainne and Clay Owen lost one of their twin sons, Killian, to leukemia in 2003.  They have been a part of our State Leadership Conferences since 2005 in order to bring awareness of their organization to our leagues.

The greatest gift we can give our children is that of hope and caring - please join Grainne and Clay and countless others in the fight against childhood cancer!

Stepping Up to the Plate
Stepping Up to the Plate
David Kloser is the author of two very inspirational and motivating books for young baseball players.  A former college pitcher and high school baseball coach, David embarked on a journey to interview former and present Major League players, managers, and coaches to find out what they wanted in a teammate, how they handle the "cheers and the jeers", how they handle making errors, what they consider to be the characteristics of a champion and more.

Stepping Up to the Plate and Stepping Up to the Plate; Second Inning are written on a level to be understood by young players.  Quotes from players such as John Smoltz, Greg Maddox, Chipper Jones, Alex Rodriguez, Randy Johnson and approximately 150 other Major League players tell the story of what's important in a person's character, how to achieve greatness and how to handle adversity.

Each chapter of the books ends with thought-provoking questions for the reader.

The books may be ordered by leagues as a fundraiser.  The cost to the leagues is approximately $5 per book and leagues may then set their own selling price.  The books may be ordered with sponsor advertising in the front covers - another way to promote your sponsors and get them additional recognition.

David and I have discussed another opportunity for leagues - using quotes from his books on fence banner advertising in conjunction with your sponsor logos.   For more information about using the books as a fundraiser, contact David at
David@SteppingUpToThePlate.com.  For more information about the fence banners, contact Linda at linda@northptc.com.
