Tuesday, July 28 2009 Senior League State Champions - West Point Little League
West Point Senior League had an exciting run through the State Tournament this year. They went 2-1 through Pool Play which was enough to get them into the semi-final round. They played Oconee County Little League in the semi-finals, winning 6-5 and earning their spot in the Championship Round - against Hart County Little League, the only team they had lost to during Pool Play. West Point beat Hart County 4-1 in the Championship Game to win the Georgia State Senior League Baseball Championship and a place in the Southeast Regional Tournament. West Point traveled to Ft. Myers, Florida for the Regional Tournament. See the box scores for the Southeast Regional Senior Baseball Tournament at www.littleleague.org.
West Point Senior Boys at Southeast Regional Tournament
West Point made a good run at the 2009 Southeast Regional Tournament in Viera/Suntree, Florida. Their first game was on Friday, August 7 against the Florida Champions. They lost to the Florida team 6 - 1. Saturday they played the host team from District 2 Florida. They won 2 - 1. Sunday they faced the North Carolina Champs and won 14 - 5. With a pool play record of 2-1, they made it to the Semi-Finals as the #2 team in Pool A. Monday, they played the Pool B #1 team, South Carolina. Unfortunately, they lost to the SC team 21 - 3, ending their chance of making it to the World Series. South Carolina played Florida in the Championship and won 5 - 4, and will represent the Southeast Region at the Senior Baseball World Series in Bangor, Maine, August 16 - 22. www.littleleague.org
Tuesday, July 14 2009 Big League State Champions - District 4 Little League
Back-to-Back State Champions! The District 4 Big League Baseball team became the 2009 Georgia State Champions Sunday afternoon which earned them a trip to the Southern Region Big League Baseball Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. During the Regional Tournament, the District 4 team lost to the Florida State Champions, lost to the Virginia State Champions and lost to the Florida District 21 Host team. In spite of the losses, the team played well. The 2009 All Star team represented players from all 6 spring teams. The level of play in the league is excellent and is validated with back-to-back State Championship titles. The fact that only 3 of the 16 All Star players were on high school rosters illustrates the fact that excellent ball players can and do find a quality place to play with the District 4 Big League program.

In a field of 4 Player Pitch teams, the Peachtree City American team took home the 2009 Championship Pennant Wednesday night. Entering the Player Pitch tournament were: South Fulton, Brooks, Senoia and Peachtree City American. All games were well played and exciting. The Championship game between Peachtree City American and Senoia Red Sluggers was hard fought. The lead exchanged hands several times. The Senoia Sluggers tied the score in the bottom of the 5th inning, 9 - 9. The visiting Peachtree City team scored their 10th run in the top of the 6th inning. Coming to the plate in the bottom of the 6th, the Senoia Sluggers were not able to get that 10th run across the plate. Thursday, August 20 7/8 Coach Pitch Champions - Peachtree City
Saturday, July 5 District 4's Ed Hosey Unsung Hero Award Managers and coaches need to pay attention to the “pulse” of their team while they are preparing their team for games and during the games. You will be asked to identify one player on your team who embodies the character traits that Little League holds dear. This player may not be the best athlete on the team, but it will be someone who gives his/her all to the game. Think carefully about your choices – the honor will go to some very special people.
The Unsung Hero Award should be given to the player who was AWAYS ready, encouraged each player while playing the game, helped the coaches find the encouraging words for the players that were struggling and down and was always willing to help another player, coach or parent with whatever task needed to be completed. He did this with no need for praise…it was just the right thing to do. Tuesday, August 18 Unsung Hero - 9/10 Baseball - Brooks -
