Frequently asked questions about the proposed merger of the Friendswood, Clear Lake and League City Soccer Clubs

Q:  Why consider a merger?

A: The Bay Area Youth Soccer Association (BAYSA) has encouraged individual clubs within the association to consider logical mergers with sister clubs to facilitate and improve the soccer experience for their youth soccer players.

Through numerous conversations and meetings, representatives of the Friendswood (FW), Clear Lake (CL) and League City (LC) clubs developed a constitution and bylaws for a joint club, the Space Center Futbol Club (SCFC).

Q:  What players are most affected by the proposed merger?

A:  U11 and above players are most affected, in positive way, by the merger.

For these age groups at the recreational level, the individual clubs find it difficult or impossible to field teams due to a limited number of players.  With the joint club, there should be a sufficient number of players to field recreation teams for all age groups.

Competitive teams at U11 and above will be formed across the entire SCFC, with a common tryout and coach selection process.  The larger number of high level players should result in a larger number of D1, Super 2 and D2 teams that should compete successfully at their respective level.  Also, consideration for regional teams is recognized and flexibility is built into the team formation rules.

Q:  What players in the younger age groups?

A:  The organization of U10 and below play is essentially unchanged.  Play at this level will be regional (FW, CL and LC).  However, with the new club there may be the possibility of higher level competitive play for the better U9-U10 players.

Q:  Are there other benefits for the players?

A:  Yes.  With a larger club there will be the resources to provide more consistent and coordinated training for the players and coaches at all levels.

Q:  Where can I find out more information?

A:  Draft versions of the constitution and by-laws for the SCFC are posted at the bottow of this web page.  In addition, address any specific questions to the Jeff Williams, 1st VP of the Friendswood Youth Soccer Club.

Q:  How will it be approved/dissapproved?

A:  There will be a mandatory coaches meeting to present all details and answer any questions regarding the proposed merger, leading to an Approve/Disapprove vote for the merger by the FW soccer club in March.  Attendance by all coaches is critically important.

Q:  When and where is the Coaches Meeting?

A:  Coaches meeting, 6-8pm Sunday Feb. 12th at the Windsong Intermediate School gymnasium.
