MANAGER/COACH/FAN CONDUCT
Manager and Coaches,
Hope everyone had a good time at Jamboree! The weather held off for a great day of baseball! Recently I attended a District 10 meeting that is held the first Tuesday of every month.
One of the requests at the meeting was to communicate with all managers and coaches about the following expectations during games:
- No cell phones on the field at any time (except medical emergency)
- No yelling at players (discipline related). The league's expectation would be to pull the child aside and coach/counsel/discipline them privately. Let the league and parents know if you have any ongoing unresolved issues.
- Coaches and parents are not allowed to be catchers for pitchers at any level (T-Ball through Seniors). This includes practices!
- Managers, coaches and parents must respect all umpire calls and never show up the umpire in any way! This includes any verbal outbursts, yelling or demonstrative behavior that could be construed as disrespectful toward the umpires. Remember that as a coach, manger or fan you have an inherent bias toward the calls. If you have a question about a call, ask for time and respectfully approach the umpire in an effort to get clarification. Then let it go!!! Carrying the negative or bad behavior into the dugout will only make things worse and will likely be picked up and emulated by your players later. Note: Such behavior or violation of the rules will initiate a discipline committee follow-up that could result in possible suspension and/or release from the league!
Please contact Brandon Robbins (FWNLL Umpire-in-Chief) if you have any questions or concerns regarding umpire related issues.
Thanks so much for everything you do to teach our children how to play ball and how to be upstanding citizens as they grow in life.
Thanks again,
Brian Westberg
Administrative Vice-President, FWNLL
