A LITTLE ABOUT US:
The F-S Youth Soccer League was formed in the early 90's and has gone through several changes and have made significant strides since the leagues's early days. Today, we have almost 300 kids (263 to be exact in 2006) within the rec league program. The program is rapidly growing with the last three consecutive years seeing substantial increases in participation numbers.
For our playing season, our primary season is in late Summer which has traditionally started in early July and lasting until mid September. In addition, we now also assemble Spring Recreational teams for U6, U8, U10, U12 & (U13 all girls) to play within the Bowling Green League (SOKY) with their season starting in February and lasting until May. For our Fall Season, currently all our leagues are co-ed (boys & girls combined) with kids playing between the of ages 4 to 12. As defined by US Youth Soccer, the "soccer age" of the player for that season is determined by his/her age on the August 1st date of that year. Age-divisions are broken down as U6 (4 & 5 year olds), U8 (6 & 7 year olds), U10 (8 & 9 year olds), and U13(10-12 year olds).
We have strived to make all leagues instructional in nature but most of all make it alot fun to kids and parents alike. In U6, we don't keep score and don't worry about wins or loses, just focus on having fun and learning how to play the game of soccer . For the U8 & older leagues, scores are kept and an exciting single-elimination tournament is played at the end of the year. All leagues play what is known as "short-sided" soccer. The U6 (4 vs 4) & U8 (5 vs 5) Leagues uses no designated goalie player and everyone in the field of play must use their feet to move the ball while in-bounds. The U10 (6 vs 6)& U13 (8 vs 8) play with designated goalies and their rules closely resembles that at the Middle & High School levels. The only major exception is that U10 does not honor the off-side rule while U13 does.
With the upcoming season for 2009, it promises to bring even greater things for the league and Franklin Soccer. We encourage you to come and join us and be a part of the excitement. Registrations will occur each year at the begining of June and lasting for a little more than three weeks ending on June 23rd . Check with this website for updates, look for our signs around town, watch the Franklin Favorite, or you can contact the F-S Parks for more information (586-8999)
