Cats Volunteer

On Saturday 8/21 after 8:00am team pictures and then a team scrimmage they boys made their way to City Park where they volunteered at The Learning House Family Carnival.  They started working in the various game booths and finished the afternoon off about 2:45 tearing down the Carnival.  I was never so proud to be a Sabercat parent and a week later still brings a smile to my face!  It was an amazing afternoon! Look for more volunteer opportunities coming soon.

Way to go boys!
You should be proud!
This past weekend embodied our team's BIG 3: Family, Commit, Compete

Loading up in 7 cars full of teen age boys was how we started out weekend. Being around each other non-stop for 48 straight hours was a wonderful bonding and growing experience for our team. The cars will filled with good times, long laughs, and some foul odors. It was inspiring to see the boys hanging out, playing, and touring from room to room to be around all their teammates. And right at lights out the halls went quiet and they all were quiet and resting. The Booster Club also deserves a big thank you for the hospitality as we arrived at the hotel and throughout Saturday. We'd also like to thank all the parents and family that came and encouraged us so enthusiastically. It really does mater to have your family in the stands, celebrating and growing together. As we went through the highs and lows of Saturday, it was inspiring to see the boys pushing themselves and each other. It was awesome to see everyone working so hard to for their team with selfless commitment and watching the confidence grow.

It was amazing to see the commitment of the boys studying playbooks and quizzing each other about assignments. The boys gave up time away from their families on Father's Day weekend, each family gave money to make it possible. The sacrifice and commitment did not go unnoticed. Everyone should be very proud of themselves. The most immediate reward is that those boys got a crash course on our offense and defense. At the start of the trip, the boys were studying playbooks and straining to recall assignments, by the end, they knew it well enough to react which made us play faster and more effectively. The sacrifices to commit in our program has made us smarter, closer, and better.

I cannot convey how proud I was with the boys and how they competed. I told the boys before it started that there are all sorts of ways to compete on and off the field. There is something really special about seeing the entire sideline erupt with enthusiasm and celebrating for each of our PICK 6's in the first game. I have not seen that kid of team enthusiasm in several years. WOW! That carried through the 2nd game and it seemed that we developed a swagger with 4 picks. This continued into the 3rd game, but we seemed to fatigue through the game. The resilient Roosevelt team persevered and came back to win. With the wind fully out of our sails, we played our toughest competition, and the eventual champions of the tournament. We struggled greatly on both sides of the ball. We persevered and by the end of that game were starting to have success again. In the last game I was very impressed how we got back on track and moved the ball and made plays on defense. Offensively we struggled down by the endzone. I was impressed with how we competed in all the games and developed a great deal of confidence through the day.

What an awesome weekend. The experience left us with confident leaders that propelled us through an excellent week of training this week (best week yet). We are all excited about the successes to come. Thank you to all who participated and supported us this past weekend.
