League Leading Bees Shut Out Ice Wolves
Strongsville, Ohio - The undefeated Medina High School Bees skated to a 3-0 shutout of the Ice Wolves on Sunday evening. After a quick goal by Medina's Calvin Juguilon just 1:30 into the game, the Ice Wolves settled in and played a great first period, actually outshooting the Bees.
The game was fast paced and very entertaining. Unfortunately after the game it was discovered that our locker room was broken into and cash and electronics were stolen from the boys pockets. A police report was filed with the Strongsville PD. The report number is 09-40374. If anyone discovers something missing they didn't realize on Sunday, they should call officer Marcello Marsala at 440-580-3230, ext 7134 to add to the report. Saturday, December 19

Ice Wolves Complete Weekend Sweep to Even Record at 6-6
Fremont, Ohio - The Ice Wolves topped the Wooster Generals 5-0 on Sunday afternoon to even their overall record at 6-6 and their NCHSHL record at 1-1.
The teams played evenly through most of the first period until freshman, Nick Novitski broke the ice with 2:17 left in the period. The sister/brother tandem of Julia and Mark Konieczny assisted on the goal. Freshman Isaac Prunty extended the lead less than one minute later with Paul Wendt and Chris Carpenter assisting and the Ice Wolves lead 2-0 after the first. The Ice Wolves started to pull away in the second period as Aaron Albright got an unassisted 4 on 4 goal midway through the period. Zach Dawson got a shorthanded breakaway goal with just 32 seconds left to push the lead to 4-0 after two periods. Albright and goalie Luke Edgar assisted on the late goal. Novitski completed the scoring early in a third period where the Ice Wolves dominated play, out-shooting the Generals by a 17-3 margin. Freshman Cole Bowers assisted on Novitski's goal. Both teams had outstanding goaltending as Luke Edgar was a perfect 18 saves on 18 Wooster shots and Generals goalie, Brad Herbert stopped 42 of 47 Fremont shots including an amazing 16 of 17 in the third period. Mark Konieczny was a ridiculous 17-3 in faceoffs in the game. The Ice Wolves have a non-league tilt with Brunswick on Saturday night at North Olmsted followed by a NCHSHL game with Medina on Sunday afternoon at Strongsville.

The score held up until Avon finally ruined the shutout with 1:11 left in the contest. TJ Humbert was stellar in goal stopping 23 of 24 Avon shots. Sunday, December 6
Buccaneers Come From Behind to Top Ice Wolves
Fremont, Ohio - The Ice Wolves took a 4-3 lead with 10:10 left in the second period, but could not hold the lead as the Rocky River Buccaneers skated off with an 8-4 victory at the Fremont Rec Center. Jordan Lones got the Ice Wolves on the scoreboard just 3 minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. After Rocky River evened the score, Lones got his second of the game with an assist from Aaron Albright to give Fremont the 2-1 lead. The Buccaneers tied the game once again with their first of 4 power play goals. They took a 3-2 lead with just 1:16 left in the first period but freshman Logan Apling tied the score with just 5 ticks on the first period clock with the assist of Paul Wendt. A power play goal with 2 minutes left in the second gave the Buccaneers a 5-4 lead heading into the final period. The Ice Wolves took all four 3rd period penalties and Rocky River made them pay scoring 2 more power play goals to end the game. The final goal came with just 6 seconds left in the game. TJ Humbert got the start in goal and stopped 30 of 38 shots. The Ice Wolves fall to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in the North Coast High School Hockey League. Wednesday, December 2

We had originally scheduled a game with the Northview JV in Sylvania on that date, but Northview cancelled that game. St. Francis Edges Wolves in Cold Turkey Tourney Championship Game
Sylvania, Ohio - An empty net goal with 23 ticks left on the clock sealed an exciting 4-2 tournament championship game win for the St. Francis Knights on Sunday afternoon. The game completed a great weekend of hockey for the Ice Wolves. The weekend started with a Friday night game with St. Francis where the Knights took a 3-2 win over the Ice Wolves. The game was similar in style to the championship game.....fast paced and hard-hitting. Luke Edgar was strong in net and Chris Carpenter's power play goal with less than 4 minutes to go in the second period gave Fremont a 2-1 lead heading into the final period. The Ice Wolves ultimately surrendered two goals in the third period as they simply ran out of gas facing a team with nearly 20 players on the bench. The Saturday morning game continued the fine play of the Ice Wolves. They took on the hosts Northview Wildcats and skated to a 5-1 win. TJ Humbert was in goal and stopped 20 of 21 shots. Joey Pulaski, Julia Konieczny and Zack Dawson each scored for Fremont with Garrett Binger picking up two goals. Dawson added two assists, Binger had one assist while Chris Carpenter, Mark Konieczny and Paul Wendt also added assists. On Saturday night the Ice Wolves took on Monroe, Michigan and coasted to a 7-1 win. Humbert was in goal again and this time stopped 23 shots. Mark Konieczny scored the first two goals for the Wolves with Julia Konieczny, Garrett Binger, Aaron Albright, Joey Pulaski and Chris Carpenter also scoring. Carpenter added three assists, Albright had 2, with Zack Dawson, Jordan Lones and Julia Konieczny also earning an assist. The championship game with St. Francis turned out to be one of the most exciting games of the tournament. Once again the game was intense with a lot of speed and hard checks. Luke Edgar got the chance to get revenge on the Knights and stopped 27 of 30 shots on goal. After a scorless first period the Knights picked up a couple early goals in the second and looked like they may skate off to an easy win. The Ice Wolves had no quit in them and with 5:15 left in the second Zack Dawson took a Paul Wendt pass and brought Fremont to within one goal. St. Francis got a power play goal with 6:28 left in the game to extend the lead to 3-1 and once again the Ice Wolves responded. Chris Carpenter banked a shot off the Knights goalie's dome and the score was 3-2. Fremont pressed hard in the final minutes and eventually got a few scoring chances with Edgar pulled from the net before St. Francis finally buried the empty-netter to seal the championship. It was truly a great game and tournament for the Ice Wolves whose record now stands at 4-5 on the season. GREAT JOB ICE WOLVES!

The Warcats finished the 2008-09 season with a 7-11-2 record, tying for fourth place in the GCHSCHL. They missed the Buckeye Cup playoffs on a tie-breaker with the Northeast Storm. It is the first of two games the Wolves have with GCHSCHL teams this season. On New Year's Eve the Ice Wolves will play the PRPC Prowlers at Nationwide Arena. The Prowlers finished in second place in the GCHSCHL last year and advanced to the Buckeye Cup championship game, losing to the Newark Generals. Sunday, November 1
Wendt Kicks Streaks to MAL Championship
Eastwood Eagles Fly Over Ice Wolves
Fremont, Ohio - The season opener was a tough 11-2 loss to the Eastwood Eagles Club team on Sunday afternoon. The Ice Wolves came out of the gate strong and with 12:21 left in the first period Zach Dawson got the first goal of the season to give Fremont a 1-0 lead. That lead held through the first period with Sophomore goalie, Luke Edgar making 10 saves. Eastwood then scored twice in the first half of the second period when they pummeled Edgar with 15 shots. TJ Humbert replaced Edgar in goal midway through the second and the Eagles continued to put up the offense scoring two more times in the period. Mark Konieczny got his first goal of the season with 40 seconds left in the second to make it a 4-2 game. Chris Carpenter assisted on the goal. The third period was all Eastwood as they outshot the Wolves 15-6 scoring another 7 goals. Edgar finished the game with 23 saves and Humbert added another 11. The Wolves welcomed 3 Bantam players, Nick Novitski, Isaac Prunty and Zach Dorr to an already young roster. With Joe Pulaski out (he had his wisdom teeth pulled late last week), the Ice Wolves played just two seniors, TJ Humbert in goal and defenseman, Aaron Albright. The Wolves were also missing juniors, Paul Wendt (SJCC football) and Alex Swope (ankle), the 2008-09 second leading scorer for the Ice Wolves. Eastwood is a much more experienced team being registered as a midget team. They had a number of players on the team that are graduated, but still just 18 years old, so all in all, the game proved a learning experience for the team. Eastwood is the only midget team the Ice Wolves will face this season.
