In July, Chris Doherty – father of NECA’s Nathaniel Doherty – and colleagues travelled to the Dominican Republic for a language immersion and service project. Chris is the cofounder of the Language Learning Foundation (LLF) and has ties to the Dominican Republic going back 20 years when he was a member of the Peace Corps.
Stocked with care packages, and suitcases full of books and baseball supplies, the travelers visited several remote villages. Care packages were given to expectant mothers, books were used to create libraries, and the baseball supplies (donated by FNLL families) were given to teams in four different villages. As you can see from the pictures above, the baseball supplies were a big hit!
You can read more about the trip, the other participants, and how to contribute to this worthy endeavor in this month’s Frederick Magazine.
We’d like for FNLL to have an even bigger presence when Chris returns next year, so please hold on to any cleats, gloves, bats, and other baseball supplies that are in good condition that you may be willing to donate. We’ll get more information out on how to participate when spring baseball rolls around.
Well done Mr. Doherty!

Machine Pitch
Machine Pitch Division (7 - 8 yrs. old)
Players learn the timing of hitting a machine pitched baseball while also improving their baserunning and fielding skills. Catchers begin to develop in this division as well. More emphasis is put on learning game situations than winning.
Minors
Minors Division (9 - 12 yrs. old)
This is the first year of kid pitch baseball on the 60 ft. baseball diamond. Players learn the fundamentals of pitching, stealing, and cutoffs while playing in game situations. More emphasis is placed on the rules of the game but fundamentals are still taught and practiced. This division is competitive and scores and records are kept as well. Games and practices will be held 1-2 days during the week and every Saturday. There will be some doubleheaders on Saturdays midway through the season.
Majors
Majors Division (9 - 12 yrs. old)
Players learn advanced fundamentals while in a competitive environment. Players improve on their pitching, catching, and fielding abilities while gaining more knowledge on the mental aspects of baseball. Emphasis is placed on playing as a team, and what each position needs to do to accomplish a team victory. This is highly competitive and scores and records are kept throughout the season. Games and practices will be held 1-2 days during the week and every Saturday. There will be some doubleheaders on Saturdays midway through the season.
In the Spring the regular season winner of this League will go on to play in either the Frederick City Championship or the District II's Tournament of Champions at the end of June. Also in the Spring, the top 9,10, 11 and 12 year olds will represent Frederick National Little League in the All-Star tournaments in July. If you think that your child has the ability to make one of these teams, please do not schedule vacations during June and July. 100% practice participation is required by all of our All-Star players.
