10/11/09 -- 10:30 a.m. -- Tournament Results

For those that did not make our season ending tournament or did not stay until the end, here is a quick recap:

As in every tournament there are some "shocks" and "surprises" along the way.  The buzz around Ballenger was that most were shocked that FOG and WOW Wingery did not last a lot longer.  FOG lost their first game as a #5 seed to the #12 seed Monkey La-La, dropped to the losers bracket to win two and then lose and depart.  The #2 seed WOW Wingery fared even worse by losing their first two and taking an early exit.  The #10 seed "4 Base Error" seemed to be the surprise as they lost their first game to Bear Creek 23-22 and came on to finish third overall.

The winners bracket semi finals found Seven Shades bumping off the Bear Creek Dental group 26-19; the other game had Corbi's disposing of Strike Force by a 22-4 score.  Seven Shades then beat Corbi's 26-19 to wait for a team from the losers bracket to take them on in the finals.  "4 Base Error beat Beef O' Brady's 15-6 to advance to get Corbi's.  Corbi's then beat them 23-13 to advance to the championship.

Corbi's beat Seven Shades 24-14 to force the "IF" game and Corbi's took that 33-23 by hanging a 20 spot in the top of the first when sending 23 men to the plate.  Seven Shades valiantly fought back and got within 3 in the sixth only to falter in the end.  In an extremely tough call for "Championship Game MVP" Jerome Patterson nosed out John West, Kevin Reinhart, and Paul Smith.

Patterson was a complete wizzard with his bat as he seemed to hit every hole on the field to score his teammates every chance he got.  Maybe he listened to an old Platters song "The Magic Touch" before in stepped in the batters box.  He also make some key stops up the middle from his pitching position during Seven Shades rallies.

One thing under consideration for 2010 is possibly using only wood bats or simply put three single wall bats at each field to eliminate "bat cheating"; please share your thoughts with Tim and Mouse on this matter.  Please check back here at this site for info on our 2010 League in mid-July.  Have a safe and great "off season."

Welcome to the official website of the Roy Rogers / Frederick U.S.S.S.A. Fall Softball League. Prior to 1993, the Frederick (MD) area's closest Fall softball league was located on a single field in Brunswick, MD. Chuck Lewey organized an A.S.A. slow-pitch league in the Fall of 1993 that played at Ballenger Creek Park, however after the end of the season, Mr. Lewey moved out of state. Mr. Lewey turned over all the league records to Randy Shank who then teamed with Dave "Mouse" Hickman who had run the Brunswick U.S.S.S.A. Fall Softball League for approximately three years.

With the corporate support of Plamondon Enterprises, Inc., their chain of local Roy Rogers restaurants, the Roy Rogers / U.S.S.S.A. Fall Softball League was born in 1994. The League's first season was played at Pinecliff Park with sixteen teams but was forced to move to Ballenger Creek Park due to renovations to Pinecliff Park during the Fall and Winter of 1995. The league remained at sixteen teams until the Year 2000 when it expanded to twenty-two teams. In 2001, the league expanded to 24 teams and to 28 teams for the 2002 season. The 2003 season saw the League return to Pinecliff Park with 30 teams while waiting for renovations to begin at Ballenger. In 2004 it was "Back to Ballenger" with a full field of 30 teams. The 2005 season had 26 teams at Ballenger participating.
