Welcome to the Fall River Community Tennis Association

The Fall River Community Tennis Association (FRCTA) was started by local tennis enthusiasts with a mission to promote tennis participation in the Fall River area.  The FRCTA is funded through a start-up grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

Members of FRCTA will advocate for the renovation of the city's tennis courts, tennis programming in schools, and increased adult participation.

FRCTA is sponsoring USTA Jr. Team Tennis, Quickstart Tennis for Children, The Strickman Cup Doubles Tournament, a Singles & Doubles League, and the Fall River Open Tennis Tournament.

USTA New England Honored Fall River CD Rec at the 2006 Annual Awards Ceremony

Park & Recreation Assoc. of the Year 2006 - FALL RIVER CD REC.

1/25/07 2:28 PM

USTA New England today announced that it will recognize 28 individuals and six organizations that have made positive contributions to tennis in New England in 2006 at its annual awards ceremony being held Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Marlborough, Mass.  USTA New England’s annual awards ceremony is sponsored by T. Rowe Price.

Award recipients represent each area of the six-state New England region, which collectively comprise the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) New England section.  An active awards committee made up of six volunteers chose this year’s award winners – with input from the USTA New England staff – from nominations that were submitted in each award category throughout 2006.  A list of the award recipients with location information appears below.

“Our annual awards luncheon gives us the opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of those individuals and organizations that exemplify the best of tennis in New England,” said Jeff Waters, USTA New England Executive Director.  “The award recipients represent a dedicated and passionate group of people and organizations that we are proud to honor.”

Bahar Uttam, CEO of the Boston Lobsters, LLC, a World TeamTennis franchise established in Boston for the 2005 season, will be the events guest speaker.   He was a co-founder and Chairman of Synetics Corporation which was acquired by ACS Corporation and subsequently, Lockheed Martin. He has served as a member of the Dean's Council at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and the Governor's Committee on International Trade. He currently serves on the Board of the USTA Tennis & Education Foundation. His most coveted recognition was selection as The Tennis Nut of New England by the USTA.

One award that carries special significance is the Gardner Ward Chase Memorial Award, which is given to an individual for his or her outstanding lifetime contribution to tennis in New England.  The award will be officially presented to 2006 recipient Richard Mount from Chestnut Hill, Mass., at USTA New England’s annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on June 9, 2007, at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.
