Framingham Orioles: Welcome
The Framingham Orioles are hungry and looking to return to the Finals for a third season in a row. They have lost the last 2 to the Southborough Cubs in 2008 and 2009. "We just ran out of gas in the late innings." "Our ageless pitcher, Jeff Merzel, gave everything he had and we couldn't support him defensively in 2 straight games." Said third baseman Chris Currie. " The Cubs had solid pitching and defense which is the key to winning in any league, we made too many mistakes to win, the Cubs just played better when it counted most," said catcher Al Dayhoff.
The upper management of the Framingham Orioles did a great job recruiting some key free agents to join the club in 2010. Pitcher, Eric Cormier has signed on with the Orioles after winning Co-MVP Honors in the 2009 Cape Cod Classic Tournament in Chatham MA. He will stabilize our pitching deep into the season and the playoffs. Also, Outfielder/Catcher/Pitcher Kevin Allagrezza comes over from the Milford Musial League. Kevin also played with us on the Cape and was a key contributor to our winning the tournament. He brings solid defense in the outfield or behind the plate, speed, pitching and a great bat.
The infield is solid with Al Dayhoff catching, Chris Currie at third, Shortstop and the heart and soul of the Orioles, Tom Galvani, should be back from shoulder surgery in the off season with BJ White stepping in to cover if Tom is out. Second base is manned by Bob Galvani. Mark Knowlton, Carlo Galvani and Jeff Merzel handle pretty much anything at first base. The outfield is solid with Kevin Allagrezz, Dave Jaffe, Aubrey Doyle, Dave Gagin, Carlos Cintron (when he's available) and Brendan "Big Bat" Doyle makes his triumphant return! Steve DeFusco and William Garnett solidify our infield and can play anywhere solidly.
The pitching will definately be our strenght this season, Eric Cormier, Jeff Merzel, Dave Jaffe, Kevin Allagrezza, Steve DeFusco and Mark Knowlton will all have an impact for us. And Finally, Dickie Scullary, who celebrated his 69th birthday, rounds out the solid lineup and he hasen't missed a day of hitting and is one of the most loyal, dedicated teammates we could have. Dick is a legend who continues to impress everyone on this team and in the league.
Since 1998 the Framingham Orioles have compiled a win/loss record of 172 - 30 while winning 6 championships. Including 5 in a row from 2001 - 2005.
