New this year:

We have all divisions of baseball start their games at the same time for Spring 2011. In past years we had a staggered start. Farm, Minor, and Major teams started playing games in late March and T-Ball and Coach Pitch started playing games several weeks later on Opening day. As a result all divisions ended the regular season at the same time.

The reason for the change is over the years the league has received a lot of questions and feedback on the matter. Some of the parents felt left out when they witnessed older divisions practicing and playing games. Many families thought they had missed the registration deadline or thought their managers had forgotten to contact them. Also, many of the managers and coaches of the younger divisions were not selected in time to attend our annual pre-season coach and safety trainings. This year all divisions will start games at the same time which means the younger divisions will end sooner than the older divisions.

This is a good change because now all players eager to play baseball will get out there sooner. This will also allow all the managers and coaches to participate in the coach training sessions. Another plus is the snack bar schedule can be developed sooner. The one challenge this will create is scheduling pre-season practices due to limited field availability. FOVLL has had more than 40 teams the past two years and that has made scheduling practices difficult. In a way it's a good problem to have. We are aware of this challenge and we will do our best to make sure our players get the amount of practice time they need.
