TOLEDO BORDER CHALLENGE
The FLAMES played two games on Saturday, April 08 at Pacesetter Park, in Sylvania, a suburb of Toledo, Ohio. The FLAMES won 2-1 over Cincinnati and gave up a 1-0 lead in the final seconds to settle for a 1-1 tie against Toledo. Good work FLAMES!!! It was a great day for soccer, beautiful fields and lovely sunshine albeit a little on the chilly side. Thanks to the Toledo Rocket organization, our coaches and our parents for all the arranging and driving. Next stop ... Cincinnati for the adidas Blue Chip Tournament on the Easter weekend.

SOUTH CAROLINA ... March 11-19, 2006
Thank you Anthony and Richard and all the parents who organized and chaperoned the FLAMES during their week of sunshine and training in South Carolina.
FLAMES ARE FINALISTS IN 2005 ORANGE CLASSIC U17 MILLENIUM GROUP
Beautiful weather, grass fields, terrific soccer ... 80 teams in our age group alone ... and many adventures led to a great trip to the Orange Classic for the FLAMES. Playing in the U17 Milllenium Division, the FLAMES faced strong competition and every game was a hard fought contest. The first game, on a very cool Florida evening against Indiana Dynamo, saw the FLAMES doing their best to heat things up. They controlled the game, but could not find the back of the net and the score after 90 minutes was 0-0. The following evening with the weather a little warmer, the FLAMES faced the Texas Lonestars. A well played, clean match by both teams ended in the identical score as the night before ... 0-0. A chance to chat with a classy group of parents and players following the game was very pleasant. Interestingly, all four games in U17 ended in a draw this night. On Day 3 the FLAMES met the Mattituck Strikers from New York and although their play was not as strong as the previous nights they deserved the win which sent them to the semis later that evening. On what turned into an almost balmy evening following a brief rain shower, the FLAMES met the Lewisboro Extreme, also from New York and played another hard fought match. The FLAMES took an early lead on a PK which was later neutralized. A second goal put the FLAMES ahead for the second time and in spite of incredible pressure from New York, they held the lead to win the game 2-1 and advance to the finals. The final match against the same Texas Lonestar team was played in the hot mid day sun under a beautiful blue sky. Both teams fought hard and in the end the Lonestars completed their chances while the FLAMES had close misses, resulting in a 3-1 well deserved victory for Texas. Bravo Texas! Congratulations to the FLAMES for a successful week on and off the field. Hats off as well to the Burlington Flash, also in the Millenium Group, the Richmond Hill Raiders for their silver finish in Orange 1 and the Ajax Eclipse. The competition was top notch in both groups and Ontario teams showed well. It was also great to see many other teams from our province compete well in this tournament. For complete results go to Links in the menu to the left and click on Orange Classic Tournament 2005. The Orange Classic 2005 goes into our archives as a trip of adventures and adversity, sadness and fun. The care, concern and teamwork during the tough times will long be remembered. Thanks to the coaches ... Anthony and Richard, the laundry ladies, daring drivers, necessary navigators, grocery gurus, magnificent massagers, shoulders to lean on, fantastic fans and our fiery FLAMES.

Semi Final Game
FLAMES 4 British Columbia 3
The semi final game between Ontario and British Columbia was a game of unfinished business for the FLAMES. Meeting their rival from the Gold Medal game at U14 and having a second chance for victory was a dream come true. The dream, however, looked to be fading rapidly as the B.C. team took a 3-0 lead by the half. The second half saw the FLAMES dig deeper than they have ever dug. They were absolutely not going to let this chance slip away. An awesome effort by every single player turned the tide and one by one, play by play, the FLAMES took control. Karlie opened the scoring, followed by Begz. The tieing goal came off Victoria's left foot high into the corner and the B. C. team was stunned. The winning goal came from Melissa and then the FLAMES held off the former champs for the final fifteen minutes as they pressed to find the equalizer. The FLAMES accomplished their goal of defeating British Columbia and in doing so left everything on the field. Exhausted players and fans knew they had just been part of something special.
Gold Medal Game
FLAMES 0 Quebec 3
The FLAMES met a fast and skilled team from Quebec in the Gold Medal game at Mount Pearl. Quebec ... QC-F.C. Select Rive-Sud opened the scoring in the first minute of play when a ball failed to clear and rolled in slow motion across the goal line. A second goal on a high shot made the game 2-0 at about the 15 minute mark. The FLAMES pressed but penetrating the tough Quebec defence was a challenge. When they did have chances their shots were compromised by the steady attack of the Quebec defenders. The third and final goal came in the second period and although the FLAMES played hard till the final whistle this game belonged to Quebec. Congratulations Quebec on the Gold. Bravo FLAMES ... you had a great tournament and represented Ontario with skill, heart and class.

THANK YOU TO ANTHONY AND RICHARD
Thanks guys for an amazing 2005 season. Through a fantastic pre-season to a rough early OYSL start with injuries galore, to a stabilizing period and finally getting back to form, we saw it all this year. We had many highlights and could not have done it without your patience, confidence, leadership, the endless opportunities and support you provided ... and of course ... practices, practices and more practices. Thank you SO much!!!
THANK YOU JANICE
The FLAMES were sad to hear the news that our long time manager, Janice, decided to resign from her post as FLAMES manager. For four years Janice was the mom away from home, the confidante, the nurse, the doctor, the psychologist, the shoulder to cry on and friend to laugh with for the girls. She saw more of their laundry than they did and she completed more paper work on their behalf than is even imaginable. She organized them, fed them, supported, taxied and gave hugs and time freely. She will be missed in her manager role greatly but the good news is that Janice will be on the other side of the field in the midst of the fans. Thank you Janice from the bottom of our hearts!!!
2005 OYSL SEASON ENDS WITH FIVE DECISIVE WINS FOR THE FLAMES
While the FLAMES had a rough start this year, sustaining several season ending and long term injuries in late pre-season and early season play, they just kept on going and eventually got things back on track to finish the season with five decisive wins in league play and three hard fought wins in Ontario Cup play. They ended the season with a 1-0 win over the League Champions, Richmond Hill Raiders. The FLAMES have a 10 - 5 and 3 record for the 2005 season and have finished in third place behind the Raiders and the Aurora Stingers. Congratulations to the League Champions ... Richmond Hill and the Runners Up ... Aurora Stingers! You have had an impressive season and once again consistency proves to be the key to success. Congratulations FLAMES for overcoming adversity and finishing third. Of course now we can't wait for the 2006 season for another great year of competition against the best teams in the province. Good Luck to everyone in their off season endeavours and keep safe till we meet again.

London Forest United Flames 2
Burlington Flash 2
London Forest won 5-3 on kicks from the penalty mark
In the final game of the day, Burlington Flash battled London Forest United Flames for the Under 16 Girls Ontario Cup. In the first half, these two rivals went back and forth right from the opening whistle. Burlington's #8 Kaitlyn MacLellan scored in a flash in the 6th minute from a long shot that fooled the London keeper. It didn't take London long to respond as it grinded an equalizer in the 13th minute when #13 Jennifer Begley scored to even the score at 1-1. In the second half, Burlington again came blazing out of the gates and were rewarded when #19 Renee Jacques scored an impressive goal from 25 yards away that picked out the top corner. Not to be outdone, London's Carla D'Onofrio herself scored a highlight reel goal from the edge of the box in the 57th minute to tie the game at 2-2. Once the game was tied, the defense of both teams buckled down and allowed few chances for the opposition as the second half ended 2-2. In extra time, London and Burlington fought hard for the victory but no other goals were scored and the result had to be determined from kicks from the penalty mark. In the end, a save from London Forest United's Bridget Wood in penalty kicks earned the Flames the victory and the celebration in this epic encounter that both teams will remember for a long time to come. London Forest United Flames were crowned 2005 Ontario Cup champions and will now represent Ontario at the National Club Championships in MountPearl, Newfoundland from October 05-10.

FLAMES NEVER DIE ATTITUDE KEEPS THEM BURNING TO WIN 2005 ONTARIO CUP
The FLAMES and rival Burlington Flash met in the Ontario Provincial Final at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Saturday, September 10. The weather was perfect ... no wind, no heat and no humidity. The crowd was huge but the tension was even bigger as the only two teams to ever have won an Ontario Cup in this age group met to battle it out for the 2005 prize. Both teams came hard and the game was exciting from the start. Early in the first half Burlington opened the scoring on a long rocket free kick that slipped through Stacey's hands. The FLAMES pressured to equalize and were rewarded midway through the half when Begz put the ball over the keeper's head to the back of the net. Up and down the field, attack after attack, superb goal tending and tough defence from both teams brought the half to an end in a 1-1 tie. Burlington came out gang busters again in the second half and very quickly took the lead for the second time on a fabulous shot to the far top corner. London continued to dig deep and press and for the second time equalized near the mid point of the half on a missile by Carla to the top right corner. The battle continued till the regulation time whistle blew and the score stood at 2-2. Two 15 minute overtime periods were played with neither team seeing the back of the net and the players exhausted from 120 minutes of play on field turf then prepared for penalty kicks to determine a winner. London shot first and Erin potted it. Burlington netted their shot and Melissa netted the next for the FLAMES. Bridget came up BIG with what was ultimately the game winning save on the Flash's second shot giving the FLAMES a goal advantage. Begz and Michelle scored the next two as did Burlington. Jillian sealed the outcome with the final shot to make the PK score 5-3. It could be said that both teams deserved the win today. Both played hard, created great chances and left it all on the field. Congratulations Burlington Flash and LFU FLAMES for a game worth way more than the price of admission.

FLAMES STEP UP TO CAPTURE 2005 ONTARIO CUP SEMI FINAL
The FLAMES continued their quest for their fourth Ontario Cup Championship today with an impressive, hard fought and VERY entertaining 1-0 win over an equally determined and talented Richmond Hill Raider team. Rdubs prediction that it would be one of the best games of the season came true as both teams played hard from the opening whistle to the final minute. The lone goal came near the half way point of the second half on a high rocket by Vicki to the upper right corner. The ball sailed right through the net causing a few FLAMES fans to check their glasses. Superb goal keeping by Stacey and Bridget combined with solid play in all thirds of the field contributed to the FLAMES success. Congratulations to all the FLAMES and good luck next week in the finals against the Burlington Flash. The game will be played at 5 p.m. at the OSA Soccer Centre in Vaughan. GO FLAMES GO!!!
FLAMES DOMINATE 2005 ONTARIO CUP QUARTER FINAL
The FLAMES showed up to play soccer against the Aurora Stingers and that they did for the full 90 minutes. Although the Stingers went up 1-0 on a high shot from a 25 yard free kick early in the game the FLAMES evened it up on a L-O-N-G laser by Carla soon after. The FLAMES kept the pressure on and although Aurora worked the ball into our end several times our defence countered and sent the ball out time and time again. Bridget made a suberb save, tipping the ball over the net on a hard, close shot to keep the score at 1-1. The half ended 1-1 and the FLAMES returned to the field ready to play and again kept the ball in the Aurora end for most of the half resulting in two more goals. The first, into the bottom corner by Begz and the second, a rocket by Melissa. Final score 3-1. Congratulations everyone!

2005 AUGUST TOLEDO TRIP
The FLAMES spent two great days inToledo, Ohio on August 15 and 16. They observed a Rockets practice, toured the beautiful campus and played a friendly against the Toledo University Women. The friendly was a great game on the most beautiful soccer pitch the FLAMES have ever set foot on. The teams played 3 - 30 minute periods and the FLAMES opened the scoring early in the first period with a nice build up attack which was completed by Melissa. The Rockets equalized with their first goal about half way through the second period by putting away a loose ball that had rebounded from a hard shot. The Rockets wrapped up the scoring near the end of the second period on a high shot to the corner. The game was clean, fast and skilled with both sides creating great chances and nice plays. Following the game the FLAMES enjoyed a meal with the Rockets before heading home. Thanks to the Toledo coaches and players for the wonderful hospitality and thanks Anthony and Richard for organizing the trip. Thanks also to the parents who provided transportation and supervision. It was a great experience!
CONGRATULATIONS TO CARLA AND MELISSA
Carla and Melissa were part of Team Ontario at the 2005 National All-Star Championships in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. TEAM ONTARIO won the GOLD medal 5-1 over British Columbia. Congratulations to these two tireless FLAMES. We are very proud of you!!!
2005 SUMMER PARTY AT MILLERS
Thanks to George and Janice for hosting the FLAMES and their families at another perfect summer gathering at their home. The party took place after our first two games of the Ontario Cup. The food, friendship, swimming, hot tub and bonfire were all amazing and everyone had a great time. Thank you Julie and Val for organizing this terrific gathering!
2005 CAR WASH AT MASONVILLE LOBLAWS A GREAT SUCCESS
Thanks Rob for organizing the car wash on May 28 and thanks to all the girls and parents who helped out. It was a great success considering the on again off again sun and rain. FLAMES WIN TENNESSEE adidas WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT 2005
In the first game the FLAMES led 1-0 until the last seconds of play when Germantown Fury tied it up. A tough way to end a game!!! The FLAMES won their second game 2-1 over Brentwood United. On Sunday morning LFU played Jackson Futbol Club, the Mississippi State Champions, and won 2-1. The final game against Tennessee FC 89 Blue, the Tennessee State Champs, ended in a 0-0 tie after regulation and overtime and went to PK's where the FLAMES put it away 4-1, to win the Gold Division. Congratulations FLAMES!!!
FLAMES PLAY FRIENDLY VS. CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY
The last time the FLAMES played at the Iceland field the game was dubbed the Fogbowl and on Saturday, April 02 the FLAMES again took to the field turf in what could be called the Icebowl. In high winds and rain, sometimes freezing, sometimes snow, the FLAMES battled it out against a tired (from a previous game in similar conditions) but skilled Central Michigan University team. The FLAMES opened the scoring early with a long, high shot from Carla over the CMU keeper' s head and continued to make it 2-0 on a nice team play from midfield that was finished by Begz. The FLAMES held the 2-0 lead till near the end of the half when CMU was awarded a free kick which was beautifully placed in the bottom left corner ... too fast for Bridget's all out dive. The score stood at 2-1 for the remainder of the game with both teams creating some nice chances. Congratulations to both teams for a great game in terrible weather. Let's hope everyone has thawed out!
FLAMES WIN 2005 GROVE CITY MUDBOWL
Slip, slide, and score the occasional goal. This was the way soccer happened in the final game at the Grove City Earlybird on the March 19/20 weekend. Believe it or not these were the worst field conditions ever ... but by all accounts the team had a blast. The FLAMES entered the championship game with two wins and a tie and slid their way to a 4-0 victory over the Charleston Eagles of West Virginia. Congratulations FLAMES on your winning start to the real 2005 season. Thank you Anthony and Richard for a great tournament.

Congratulations to Burlington Flash ... Summer Games and Ontario Cup Champs 2004 ... Ajax Eclipse Silver Medalists and the North Mississauga Avalanche on their Bronze medal. A great four days of soccer !!! The FLAMES won the Group 8 Tournament Round in June and advanced to the Ontario Summer Games which were held in London between August 19 and August 22. The Flames competed for the Bronze Medal but came up short on a golden goal in double overtime against the determined North Mississauga Avalanche. We enjoyed the Games, a once in a lifetime experience, with The Sault Ste. Marie Civics, Peterborough Panthers, Ajax United Eclipse, North Mississauga Avalanche, Burlington Flash, Richmond Hill Raiders and the Aurora Stingers as well as many other athletes who competed in their sports. It was AWESOME!!! Thanks Anthony and Janice for your supervision, Gina for the laundry and the parents who took care of the ice and nutrition snacks at the games. The FLAMES had a perfect day for their car wash on July 10. Hot weather and a mix of sun and cloud made the day great for scrubbing and polishing about 55 cars. Thank you to Rob for organizing and to all the parents for getting donations, making donations, guiding, teaching, working, cleaning up, barbecuing, serving, feeding and hydrating the workers, collecting the money and bringing the music. The whole day was a BIG success and showed the great teamwork we are famous for. Bravo FLAMES!!!

The FLAMES started the game on fire and really pushed hard for the first half of the half. Then Burlington found their stride and pushed back and the game flow changed with Burlington moving the ball better in the last part of the half. A great scoring opportunity by Burlington was doubly thwarted, first by Bridget and then in a scramble following the rebound shot, by Carla, who in the nick of time cleared the ball sideways right off the goal line. Although we had our chances in the first half, the ball wasn't going into the net. In the second half the FLAMES created near breakaways and attacks but nothing materialized. Finally, the FLAMES were able to convert on a perfect corner kick by Vic which resulted in some scramble activity and a nice finishing shot by Louise. There seemed to be a big crowd watching this game and I think they would all agree that it was worth the drive. Both teams played great soccer. Congratulations to all on a hard fought game!
RATED SPORTS TOURNAMENT ... MAY 24th Weekend 2004
In their first game on Saturday the Flames faced Burlington Extreme in the U16 Division. Burlington took the lead and Louise tied it up to make for some exciting moments as the FLAMES continued to battle. The second Burlington goal could not be answered by the end of the game and the final score was 2-1. In the next game against Lac St. Louis Lakers, the FLAMES created more chances to score but cross bars, posts and just high or wide shots don't count and the FLAMES went down 1-0. On Sunday, the FLAMES met the Kitchener Spirit, also a U15 team and a favourite opponent. The teams gave the spectators an exciting match to watch. The FLAMES defence played tough, keeping the ball out of their own end for most of the game. Near the end of the game, a well placed cross by Victoria fell infront of the net and emerged from the scramble on a nice volley by Becca into the top left corner. The Spirit pressured but were unable finish and the FLAMES won the game 1-0. Congratulations on a great showing this weekend FLAMES!
FLAMES WIN U16 DIVISION OF THE NORTH LONDON EARLYBIRD
The FLAMES won three games in the EarlyBird Tournament on May 01 and advanced to the semis on Sunday morning against Waterloo, winning 10-0. The FLAMES faced a pumped up Burlington Thunder but kept up their winning streak with a 2-0 victory. MVP's to all, especially our D. They kept the ball where it belonged. FLAMES scored 20 goals with 0 against in the tournament. Congratulations FLAMES !!! Congratulations Ashley, for not freezing to death while protecting our net. Congratulations fans, who hung in in the cold, wet weather. Competitiors in the U16 division were London United Extreme, Kitchener Spirit, Mississauga Falcons, Burlington Thunder, Sarnia Spirit, Ancaster Titans and the Waterloo Wildcats.

SUCCESSFUL EASTER WEEKEND AT THE SUPERCLUBS TOURNIE
The FLAMES accepted an invitation to travel back to Virginia Beach for the second time in a month to enjoy another weekend of great competition. This time the FLAMES played in the regional tournament of the SUPERCLUBS National Championship. In the tournament round they tied both Penns Forest Nighthawks PA and Diadora Lady Impact TN 2-2. Next they defeated Eagle Elite CT 3-0. This record put the FLAMES in first place and on to the Championship game where they again met Lady Impact. The hard fought match ended with Lady Impact scoring in the last minute of play to take the Regional Championship. Congratulations Lady Impact!!! We really enjoyed playing you and meeting your supporters. We hope to meet again and wish you the best of luck in your quest to re-gain your State Championship. In addition to playing great soccer the FLAMES and the Meteors went to watch the Washington Freedom, 2003 WUSA Founders' Cup Champions, play against the NCAA Division 1 National Champs, The University of North Carolina Tar Heels, in an exhibition game on Saturday night. The Freedom defeated UNC 2-1 and WOW what a game! It was a chance for our players to see what it's like at the top of womens' soccer. Congratulations FLAMES on a great weekend of soccer, friendship and fun. The tired but happy bunch arrived home on Monday afternoon with many fantastic experiences under their feet. Thanks to Anthony, Steve G., Julie C., Liddy and Susan I. for keeping the FLAMES stoked over the weekend. Thanks too, to our sister team the Meteors for your support and friendship and to the moms, Christine, Mo and Donna and coach Steve. And now for a few of the often heard or famous quotes of the weekend ...
Oh honey, we are so under the dome.
When I can't see, I can't hear.
Put a liddy on that will you!?
Should I have a shower now or in the morning?
My spandex is wet.
It's scratch and sniff.
Is there anything left in that ...
You're a donkey. It's in the Bible.
I'm soooo tired. Are you tired???
How much does it cost?
Shut .... Up!
Does anyone have any US $$ left?
I want , I need, I don't want.
That's O.K. I'll still wake up in the morning.
Should I wear my hair up or down?
I AM leaving.
Wendy's AGAIN?
Maybe it's because we're Canadians.
AND FINALLY ... just so we don't forget ...
It's under the dome.
THE VIRGINIA RUSH SPRING BLAST OFF TOURNAMENT 2004
It was great to play on real grass against some challenging opponents in the Virginia Spring Blast Off Tournament on the weekend of March 13 and 14. The FLAMES played in the U16 Division winning all of their games against some great competition. The first game played in very cold windy conditions against Richmond Crew ended in a 1-0 victory for the FLAMES. After thawing out, the team returned to the field to meet The Virginia Rush Nike team. This game also ended in a 1-0 victory for the FLAMES but was much more challenging than the first game. The semi finals the next morning against McLean Anaconda proved to be an easier game with a score of 3-1 at the whistle. The weather was sunny and the wind had died down and it was a great day for soccer. The finals matched us up again with the Virginia Rush Nike team. They were a fit and skilled team, coached by a Canadian female national player, and it was even more exciting playing against them a second time. Both teams played evenly from a physical standpoint, fitness level, and ball handling skills. At the final whistle the game was locked in a 0-0 tie but only three minutes into overtime Erin received a pass down the wing, carried it toward the net and layed it back to Becca who scored the golden goal to give the FLAMES the win and the championship. The FLAMES played well together with great passing and plays. Congrats FLAMES and THANK YOU Anthony and Janice for taking the team to the tournament and to all the parents who chaperoned. Go FLAMES Go !!!
FLAMES ... U18 CHAMPS OF THE LDYSL WINTER INDOOR LEAGUE
The FLAMES indoor team finished the winter season with a 13 ... 3 and 4 record and ended in second place behind the North London Rockets. Congratulations Rockets and Way to Go FLAMES !!! In the playoffs the FLAMES met the third place Supernova White in the first round and the game was an exciting end to end game, finishing after overtime in a 0-0 draw. Penalty kicks saw the FLAMES pull ahead with a goal by Begs and the clincher by Becca, resulting in a 2-0 win. The FLAMES next met the first place Rockets for the championship and with only two minutes left in the game Louise crossed a beauty to Melissa who headed it in for the only and winning goal of the game. Both keepers came up big and along with the defenders deserve the MVP awards. Congratulations to all on a great season!

THE CANADIAN NATIONAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ... HALIFAX 2003
THE NATIONAL EXPERIENCE WAS AMAZING ... CONGRATULATIONS NATIONAL FINALISTS... WE ARE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU !!! Halifax was a wonderful city and they sure know how to make guests feel welcome. The weather was beautiful and the playing fields ... turf grass ... were great to play on. The FLAMES had a successful run to the final game where they met the British Columbia team with their amazing striker. Although the FLAMES pressed hard the entire game and contained the phenom better than any other team in the tournament had been able to do, she got two shots and she didn't miss. The FLAMES had one of those games where the crossbar and goalposts just kept getting in the way , preventing the FLAMES from converting on any of their excellent chances. During the medal presentation, Raquel #3 for the FLAMES, received a big round of applause from the B.C. fans for her outstanding job of covering their striker so well. Although disappointed to not come home with the Gold medal the whole experience was just too good for words and will remain a highlight of our soccer career and a positive memory forever.

FLAMES WIN THE 2003 SRSL U14 ELITE LEAGUE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP. BRAVO!!!
FLAMES WIN 2003 SRSL ELITE CHAMPIONSHIP
The wind was a pesky factor is this hard fought game between these two top teams in the South Region Girls Elite Soccer League. Niagara Falls kept the FLAMES at bay for the first half with an up and down the field game. Although the FLAMES outchanced the Lightning, their keeper made amazing saves and kept her team even. The second half saw the FLAMES turn up the heat and increase their scoring chances but again the Lightning keeper played like a pro and blocked the FLAMES time and time again. Finally in the last quarter Erin sent a nice ball to Becca who carried it through the Lightning defenders and crossed a hard ground ball to Louise who blasted it right into the net. Although the scoring chances continued for the FLAMES, the game ended with the 1-0 score. The whole FLAMES team played well today, working together to control the ball on a hard, ball bouncing field. Congratulations to both teams for a great game and their one, two finish in their league and league cup.
ONTARIO CUP FINAL 2003 ... TUG 'O WAR
The Forest United FLAMES and the Aurora Stingers took to the field at the Coffee Time Ontario Soccer Centre on one of the most beautiful days of the year, Saturday, 2003 September 06, to continue another round of their ongoing tug 'o war. Over the years these two teams have faced each other several times and the FLAMES always enjoy playing the Stingers. Aurora, like the FLAMES is a talented, well coached team and it is always worth the price of admission (or more) to watch these girls play each other. Their rivalry is long and healthy. They have been meeting in tournament play since they were 10 years old and Aurora invariably tugs well and wins an early game only to find the FLAMES tugging back to narrowly defeat them in the finals. Last years OC Semi was an even tug until the overtime golden goal gave London the win. Saturdays 2003 Ontario Cup Final was a condensed version of the ongoing tug 'o war type rivalry between these two teams. It was much anticipated by U14 girls soccer lovers from far and wide. Both sides had amazing support at the game. The stands were a sea of yellow and blue, although we do admit those yellow jerseys couldnt be missed in quality or quantity. Thank you to all the fans who showed up to lend their support! The girls in gold started the way every team plans to. They poured their strength and emotion into an early tug and simply jerked the FLAMES off their feet, stinging just a couple of minutes into the game. It was a lovely long strike ... really a rocket ... that sailed right into the net giving Bridget no chance to stop it. You could just see the fans in blue turn blue. A quiet few minutes in the stands for them but on the field it was a different story. The girls in blue refused to be snuffed out and quickly regrouped and began their own steady attack. You could see it build. Aurora retained a slight advantage until about the 20 minute mark but the FLAMES were smouldering. Gradually the heat was turned up as the FLAMES just kept up the steady tugging and pulling. The depth of our team, the character of the players and the teamwork kept them building, eventually resulting in the tieing goal which came late in the first half on a well placed cross from Erin that sailed over a few heads and descended close to the net. Begs gave it a forehead smash and it bounced into the top right corner of the net. This goal really fanned the FLAMES! In the second half, the FLAMES carried most of the play yet the winning goal just kept eluding them, mainly because of the sharp Aurora keeper. Finally, with, only a few minutes of play remaining in the game, everyone tugged with heart and 'sole'. Another corner kick from Erin sailed into the box, landing at Carla's feet. Carla heeded Victorias shouts to " SHOOT !!! " assessed the opening on the left side of the net and seized a tiny opportunity to strike, saying to herself, Its going there! IT DID!!! An 80 minute tug o war ended in a 2-1 victory for the FLAMES. Congratulations to both teams for an outstanding game. Thank you to Anthony, Steve and Janice for your part in getting us there. Thank you to our amazing parents and fans. Thanks to Aurora Coach, Vince for the kind words. Thanks to the U14 Dynamite for sticking around to cheer us on and congrats on your win as well. GOOD LUCK to London's U14 GIRLS FLAMES AND U 14 BOYS DYNAMITE in your quest for the National Championship in Halifax in October. LONDON ROCKS !!!
ONTARIO CUP SEMI FINAL NEWS FROM THE OSA WEBSITE
In the second Semi-Final game, London Forest United Flames burnt the North Mississauga Avalanche by outscoring the team 4-2. Erin Hemming of the Forest United Flames gave her team an early lead with a goal just four minutes into the game. A second goal by Rebecca Isaacs increased London's lead to two goals. North Mississauga countered with a goal by Erin Flynn at the 33rd minute to end the half at 2-1. It did not take long however, for the Flames to increase the lead again when Jennifer Begley scored just three minutes into the second half. Another insurance goal was scored by Victoria Hinde at the 68th minute but North Mississauga's Danya Leone responded with a goal two minutes later. The Avalanche was unable to match the London goals before time ran out.
FLAMES MAKE IT TO THE ONTARIO CUP FINALS FOR THE THIRD TIME
FLAMES beat the North Mississauga Avalanche in a 4-2 victory in the Semi Finals of the Ontario Cup. North Miss came out hard and the FLAMES found the early play in their end. A strong wind made it tough for the FLAMES to clear the ball but at about five minutes in they found the way. Erin caught the NM goalie off her line and sent a beautiful rocket from outside the box, against the wind into the top right corner of the net. About seven minutes later on a nice pass play, Becca patiently played the keeper with a nice touch around her before sending an accurate shot to the top half of the empty net. The Avalanche continued to press hard and things got tense for the FLAMES when NM was awarded a PK. Bridget came up HUGE and we held the 2-0 lead until the Avalanche capitalized on a beautifully stuck corner that sailed high into our net at the 33rd minute mark. The FLAMES defense was superb, thwarting many aggressive Avalanche attacks around our net in the first half where the wind was clearly a factor against us. Pleased to get out of the first half with a 2-1 lead the FLAMES were ready to come back with the wind at their backs in the second half. Our midfield quickly took control of the game and created lots of great plays. Our third goal came quickly from Begs when she put her famous finishing touch on a corner kick ball that found itself in a scramble around the net. Victoria gave us our fourth and last goal with 12 minutes remaining when she raced down the left wing, cut to the middle and placed the ball nicely in the right corner of the net giving us a commanding 4-1 lead. North Miss showed great determination, attacking hard in the last minutes. They kept coming back and scored one more time with a nicely finished cross to make it 4-2. Great play continued in the midfield and our defenders were superb ... Jenn when she did everything in her power including using her face to stop a particularly aggressive attack near the end of the game ... Raquel for her ever present speed and Rebecca who stepped in early in the game when Haley was injured and played with her usual aggressive tenacity. Congratulations to both teams for an excellent effort and exciting game. The FLAMES will face a favourite rival in the finals ... the Aurora Stingers ... at 1:00 p.m. on September 06 at he Soccer Centre in Vaughan. Safe play and good luck to all.
FLAMES ADVANCE TO ONTARIO CUP SEMI FINALS
Congratulations FLAMES on your Ontario Cup Quarter Final win over Capital United-3-1. The FLAMES started the game on fire. They had 3 good opportunities in the early part of the game and Ashley made good on the second chance from a great crossed ball. Capital United answered our goal about half way through the first half on a beautiful play from a missed corner that was quickly crossed way back and finished by a defender racing in from the left. The Cap United goal really pumped them and the rest of the half they played with tonnes of heart and skill, narrowly missing 2 great scoring chances both handled beautifully by Bridget. At half time the score was stuck at 1-1. The FLAMES and Capital United played a more balanced second half until Louise made a fantastic run and got the go ahead goal. Our third goal was a nicely placed free kick by Ashley that went right in (although the scramble in front of the net made it hard to tell). Thank you Capitals for a great heart stopping, spectators dream match. Both teams played to win and what a game it was! Good luck in the balance of your season and we hope to see you in league competition next year.

FLAMES 6 vs. Ottawa Capital United 1
The National Capital Tournament was a well organized event with great competition. The city was beautiful and there is so much to do and see besides soccer BUT first we played and then we played. We burned through the preliminary round easily with one exception ... our game against Ottawa South. There's something about those teddy bears that make us very sleepy. We just couldn't play our game or any other game that looked like soccer for that matter. The 11th hour goal to tie it 2-2 was nothng less than of one of 'Mary's Miracles' (and she wasn't even on the field!!!) By the time we faced Whitby in the semis later that day, we had walked, eaten, shopped and dropped and slept and we were ready to win. Judging by the 6-1 final game score against Cap United it would seem to have been a cruise control game but it was definitely not! Both teams played hard and there were chances both ways. The first half ended 3-0 but the second half saw a different group of Ottawa players on the field. The pace changed but the second half score was still in the FLAMES favor at 3-1. Bravo FLAMES !!!
THANK YOU FOR THE POOL PARTY
Thank you to the Millers for hosting a wonderful pool party and potluck after practice on Saturday. Thanks Anthony for a taste of the Islands and to all the other cooks and bakers (and buyers) for your contributions to the feast.
FLAMES WIN 2003 ROBBIE INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT
The FLAMES showed their depth and competitive spirit in the Robbie Tournament on the Canada Day Weekend winning all five games with a total of 25 goals for and 1 against. The final game against Pickering Power was played on a beautiful field allowing the FLAMES to play the kind of soccer they can. Congratulations to Little Haley who was named MVP of the championship game. Thanks to Anthony and Steve, our coaches, Janice, our manager, Ash for stepping into goal and the parents and grandparents who drove and fed the girls. Thanks also to Dr. Ken Wolch for the emergency dental work.
2003 ONTARIO CUP TOURNAMENT ROUND ... WOW WHAT EXCITEMENT
Saturday, June 14 at Veteran's Field 1

Sunday, June 15 at Veteran's Field 2

5:00 p.m. FLAMES 7 vs. Sarnia Spirit 0
EXCITING ... you bet! NERVE WRACKING ... yup!!! SURREAL ... for sure! The Ontario Cup Tournament Round we participated in on September 14 and 15 was all these things and more. We all know that every game is important and that every minute counts ... but in reality we thought that our toughest match would be against the Burlington Flash at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The winner of this game had a very good chance of winning the tournament round and advancing to the quarter finals. It was a tough match all right, but then the others were equally so for different reasons. The soccer gods put everyone to the test ... the outcome would not be known until the last second of the last game and even then everyone waited for the official scoresheets.
Here's what happened ... Our Burlington game ended in a 1-1 tie sending both teams into a goal differential race ... a scoring contest against all other opponents. At the end of the first day of play the FLAMES and the Flash were still tied by the goal differential rules with a 5-0 win and a 6-1 win respectively. A new day began and unfortunately Markham, Sarnia and Scarborough were caught in the cross fire of a race, for the most goals for, and the least against, from the two teams who were competing against each other without even being on the same field. The big wins were bittersweet ... everyone agreed that the rules of the tournament were unfair but nevertheless they are the existing rules. By the end of the tournament the FLAMES had 26 goals for AND so did the Flash. The FLAMES had 1 goal against BUT the Flash had 2 against. THAT was the difference!!!
After all that preparation ... all that play ... all that time ... all that hard work ... and it came down to a 1 goal difference! EXCITING ... you bet! NERVE WRACKING ... yup! SURREAL ... for sure! While the FLAMES are totally excited about the opportunity to advance, we feel for Burlington. Both teams deserve to go through. We also hope that our other opponents understand why every goal was needed. Every team came to do its best. Every team had hopes of winning. The FLAMES needed goals to do that.
Congratulations to every player! You played with heart and skill. Thank you as always to our coaches, Anthony and Steve, our manager, Janice and to all the parents for their support ... a.k.a. ... love, food, freezies and driving. Thanks also, to Terry from Sarnia, for a well organized tournament.
FLAMES FINALISTS IN 2003 COVI TOURNAMENT
In between driving to Toronto, over to St. Catherines and back to Toronto, the FLAMES played a lot of soccer in less than 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. After winning their first two games against Vaughan Azzuri and The Richmond Hill Raiders in the COVI, the FLAMES won their league game against the St. Catherines Jets before returning to the COVI to play Niagara Falls Lightning. The FLAMES tied this game allowing them to advance to the semi finals on Sunday where they met a favourite opponent, The Aurora Stingers, and squeaked out a 1-0 win. The FLAMES then met Niagara Falls again in the finals, but this time Niagara Falls had the power and defeated the FLAMES 2-0. Congratulations FLAMES on your great effort!!!

FLAMES CAPTURE THIRD CONSECUTIVE EARLY BIRD CHAMPIONSHIP
A great start to the outdoor season ... The FLAMES won the 2003 Early Bird for the third year. On real grass, under beautiful sunny skies, the FLAMES played some awesome soccer this weekend. All the teams in the U14 Division showed up to play a tough and aggressive game. Great goaltending, strong defense and midfield play and the two second half goals by Vic and Erin put the FLAMES ahead of Aurora to clinch the championship once more. Congratulations FLAMES and thank you as always to the coaches and parents.
FLAMES FALL TO ROCKETS
The FLAMES outdoor team faced the one year older Rockets at T.D. Waterhouse Stadium in their first exhibition game of the 2003 season. Although the Flames showed good possession and passing sequences, the Rockets did the same and the Rockets also capitalized nicely on their scoring chances. Final score after 3 periods was 4 -0 for the Rockets.

FLORIDA ORANGE CLASSIC 2002
The FLAMES travelled to sunny Florida from December 26 till December 31 and continued their winning ways with a strong 2-1 record against older U.S. teams in outdoor mid-season condition at the Orange Classic Tournament in Miami. The tournament started off with a 1-0 victory over Florida Premier, the team that ultimately went on to win the tournament. The game was scoreless until six minutes before the final whistle, when Erin converted on a corner kick. Up until that point the game had been an exciting, end-to-end battle with both teams showing excellent possession and generating great opportunities. Florida pressed hard in the dying minutes of the game but were unable to score the equalizer. The Flames dominated the second game versus the Renegades Rage, with a convincing 5-0 win. After pouring on the pressure in the first 15 minutes, Angela opened the Flames scoring, redirecting a pass from Carla. After that, there was no looking back with further goals by Daniella, Angela, Carla and Melissa. The Flames went into their third game as leaders in their pool, but came up short, taking a 1-0 loss to the Parkland Predators. Unfortunately, a flu bug took the winning edge off of the team's play, with half of the players fighting off high fevers during the last game. All in all, it was great to have the chance to play outdoors (on BIG fields) under beautiful sunny skies in south Florida. Many thanks to the guest players who helped us out. The LONG bus ride certainly provided an opportunity for the girls to bond with each other and their sister team, the Eagles. Happy New Year!
FLAMES HONOURED BY LONDON MAYOR

FLAMES BRING HOME THE HARDWARE
It was a winning weekend ... September 14 and 15 ... for the Forest United FLAMES as they captured the Ontario Cup on Saturday and the Challenge Cup on Sunday. The semi final Challenge Cup game against Sarnia was handily won by a score of 4-1. The girls displayed a great show of passing skill and their usual strong defensive play. The final game against North London Lightning was much closer
with the FLAMES working hard to get a scoring break and the Lightning focusing on their defensive strategy. The lone goal for the FLAMES was scored by Carla in the second half and the game ended in a 1-0 victory for the FLAMES. CONGRATULATIONS to both teams for a hard fought game.
FLAMES REPEAT AS ONTARIO CUP CHAMPS 2002
 | |
On Saturday, September 14, 2002, The Forest United FLAMES captured the Ontario Cup Championship for the second time. The FLAMES (known as the Magic in the 2001 season) won the Under 12 championship last year and in a hard fought game against the Mississauga Dixie Vipers repeated as the Provincial Champs for 2002. The game was a long tug-of-war ending regulation time in a 0-0 tie. Two over time periods still saw the score at 0-0 and penalty kicks would determine the winner. It took a full set of 8 PK's before the FLAMES emerged as champs. Neither team had many scoring opportunities in this hard fought defensive match and even corner kicks and goal kicks were rare. Goalkeeping was superb when tested. Congratulations to both of these excellent teams, who played every second of the whole 110 minutes with skill and determination and then moved fully focussed into PK mode to give the fans a nailbiter to the last second.
Thank you to all the coaches, managers, parents and other fans who supported the FLAMES through a great season. This year the FLAMES placed first in their league winning all of their league games, recorded 14 out of 18 league game shutouts, won every tournament they entered at their age level plus one at an age level a year up, won their league Challenge Cup and repeated as the Ontario Champions. WELL DONE FLAMES!!!

ONTARIO CUP SEMI FINALS
THEY BURNED, THEY BUZZED, THEY ROCKED THE FIELDS The Forest United FLAMES and the Aurora Stingers played an amazing game of soccer at Ester Shiner Stadium in North York on August 24. The game was fast, exciting and defensive on both sides. Neither team had many scoring chances, but the few they had were heart stopping. Both keepers made fantastic saves to keep their team in the game. Aurora opened the scoring early in the game, when their star striker took possession and booted a beauty. The FLAMES equalized before the half with Erin picking up a pass from Victoria and sending it deep into the bottom corner. Regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie. The golden goal came with about a minute left in the first overtime period on a pass from Tash to Victoria. Congratulations to both teams for an action packed, hard fought, thrilling game of soccer. The FLAMES will meet Dixie in the Finals on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. in Vaughan. Go FLAMES Go!!!
FLAMES ADVANCE TO THE 2002 ONTARIO CUP SEMI FINALS
The FLAMES put forth a great team effort against the tough Brampton United Falcons in the Quarter Finals of the Ontario Cup on Saturday, August 10. It was a great day for soccer and the FLAMES definitely came to play. Although the first half ended at 0-0, the FLAMES had control of the ball. In the second half, the sparks caught fire and the ball sizzled past the Brams keeper three times. The 3-0 win earned the FLAMES the right to advance to the Semis against a favourite rival, the Aurora Stingers. Everyone is looking forward to a great game!!! Esther Shiner Stadium in North York will be on fire and buzzing beginning at 5:00 p.m. on August 24 when these two top teams take to the pitch. Here's hoping for a thrilling, fun and injury free game!!!
THANK YOU VICTOR AND MARY
Thank you Victor and Mary for hosting the team dinner for the girls on Friday night. By ALL accounts, it was delicious!!! Congratulations to our awesome 'keeper coach' for his outstanding play in the London City Game at Cove Road Field which we all enjoyed watching after the dinner.
More thanks ... to Paul and Julie for the totally fun barbecue the parents had while the girls were eating Victor's pasta. Hey Toria, great carrot cake !!!
FLAMES SCORCH THE FIELDS AT THE NATIONAL CAPITAL
 | | | The Champs |
The FLAMES played some great soccer on the August long weekend. They 'burned eternal' in the National Capital Girls' Tournament making it to the Finals by allowing just 1 goal while scoring 14 against formidable opponents. In the Quarter Finals on Sunday the FLAMES beat St. Catharines 1-0 to advance to the Semis where they met Cumberland. This game ended in a 4-0 victory for the FLAMES. The Finals were held at the Terry Fox Stadium and the FLAMES met one of their favourite teams ... Kitchener Spirit. It was very exciting from start to finish, a kind of tug-of-war, up and down the field, with both teams showing exceptionally strong defence, bursts of heart-stopping offence, amazing goalkeeping by Bridget for the FLAMES and Amy for the Spirit ... and fair play by all. Sharp passes, skilled distribution, powerful runs and well placed head balls showed the high skill levels that are trademarks of The FLAMES and the SPIRIT. Final score was 1-0 for the FLAMES with the lone goal finished by Erin. Erin was named MVP by the referee. What a great choice!!! As always, we totally enjoyed playing the strong Kitchener Spirit team and look forward to our next 'pitched' battle. Congratulations to both teams for a thrilling championship game and good luck to both in their respective Ontario Cup Quarter Finals on August 10.
Thank you to Anthony, Steve, John, Janice and Dave for all the time and energy to get us there and ensure a great tournament ... and Thank You Ottawa!!! We had a great time and are proud to be Canadian!

FLAMES JOIN THEIR BIG SISTER TEAM IN WALKERTON
Becca, Carla, Erin, Kylie and Louise travelled with coach Steve and a few fans to lend a foot to Carly, Kim, Sabine and Tanya from the FUSC Girls Under 19 team to play a league game against Walkerton on Saturday, July 06. The small but mighty team of 9 faced a full team from Walkerton and came away with a 7-0 victory. Becca opened the scoring on a beautiful cross from Kylie which they repeated a short time later. A hard shot on a penalty kick by Carla, 3 goals by Tanya and 1 from Sabine with several assists by Erin and amazing set ups and defence by Weisy clearly kept the FUSC in control of the game. It was lots of fun, and the fiercesome five wish to thank Steve, Howard and Victor for taking the day to get them to and from Walkerton. Thanks to the McCormicks who came all the way from California to watch us play and to the Under 19 girls for making us feel so welcome. Go EAGLES GO!
ST. THOMAS SOCCERFEST TOURNAMENT
The FLAMES were burning in more ways than one, two weekends in a row in June as they first captured the Championship of the 26th Annual St. Thomas Under 13 Girls Soccerfest Tournament on the hottest weekend of the year and then placed second for the SILVER in the Under 14 Division the following weekend.
Both final games ended in a 2-0 score with the FLAMES beating St. Thomas in the Under 13 group and being beaten by Cincinnati in the Under 14 group. Both finals were exciting games and the FLAMES wish to thank St. Thomas for a great tournament. Congratulations to a strong Cincinnati team, a deserving winner!

FLAMES COME UP BIG IN MICHIGAN
The Forest United FLAMES proudly represented their club in the Ann Arbor Arsensal Tournament in Michigan on May 25-27, 2002. Winning all four regular play games ... 4-0, 4-0, 8-0 and 4-0, the FLAMES advanced to the championship game with a perfect record to face the defending champs ... the Ann Arbor Premier Arsensal team. The FLAMES with two players missing and three injured played with skill, heart and soul. With 10 minutes left in regulation time Ann Arbor scored the first goal of the game and the first goal against Bridget in the tournament. Five minutes later Zayah equalized the score and regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie. It was straight to penalty kicks to determine a winner and the fans began chewing on their nails. Four of our shots found the net while only three of the Ann Arbor shots made it. The cheers of the Canadians could be heard all the way to London. Thank you Ann Arbor for a great tournament and specifically the Premier Arsensal girls for one heart stopping, nerve wracking, fiercely competitive game. Thank you Anthony, John and Steve for coaching us to this most exciting finish. Thanks to all the parents who in large and small ways made it possible for us to have such a great weekend.

Great teamwork 'off the field!!!'

We had a great afternoon of food, fun and friends at the Wonderland Palasad on Sunday, December 02 from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. We bowled, played pool, watched our favourite sports on BIG screen TV's and ate some yummy pizza and wings. Thank you Pam for arranging this event! (Dave too!)
FLAMES Semi-Finalists in Ontario Indoor Cup
The FLAMES won two of three hard fought games on Saturday, entitling them to advance to the semis on Sunday morning. In their first game, the FLAMES were victorious over the Oshawa Kicks 2-0. The FLAMES next played one of their favourite rivals ... the strong Dixie Vipers. A last minute goal by Dixie made the score 3-2 and the clock ran out. The day finished with the FLAMES on fire against the Thunder Bay Express, finishing with a score of 5-0. On Sunday morning the FLAMES faced the North Mississauga Avalanche in the semis. Both teams applied pressure but the FLAMES' shots were either stopped by outstanding goalkeeping or could not quite find the net. The final score was 1-0 and Mississauga advanced to meet our Dixie rivals. The girls can be proud of their play in this indoor event. They learned a lot about the short game and proved they have what it takes to compete with best. Burn FLAMES Burn!!!

FUSC 89 GIRLS WIN PRELIMINARY ROUND OF THE INDOOR ONTARIO CUP
FUSC 89 Girls emerged winners in the preliminary round of the indoor Ontario Cup Soccer tournament on Saturday, 2002 January 05 at Air Athletics. FUSC played against the North London Supernova in an exciting game which ended in a 0-0 tie. Although penalty kicks are just a way to end the game rather than determine a winner, PK's were what we were all stuck with. At the end of the first round of penalty kicks, 10 great shots resulted in a perfect ... 5 - 5 tie. Each team was awarded another PK and now it was sudden death. (By the looks of some of the fans on the sidelines they were about to experience sudden death as well.) Supernova took the first shot. Bam! Hard and over the goalie's head...but just nicked the crossbar and bounced away. FUSC's turn ... Bre's shot... WHAM! In the net! Game over!
Congratulations to both teams. You played a great game!
