CONGRATULATIONS TO THE U17 FLAMES ...SILVER MEDAL WINNERS ... in the 2006 U18 CANADIAN CLUB NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN LAVAL, QUEBEC
The FLAMES had a successful week in Laval. They played extremely well in all games and finished the week with a great game against Quebec. Quebec had swept their group and came to the finals with a lot of well earned confidence. The two teams were well matched for a National final and it was a tug of war from start to finish. Our defensive trio of Michelle, Rebecca and Karlie continued the outstanding play they were noted for throughtout the tournament. The midfield and forwards created some excellent chances but were denied any finishes. The one good chance Quebec had was created against great pressure by the FLAMES and the cross and finish were just right to give the Quebec team the 1-0 lead that would carry them to the Gold Medal. As always the FLAMES never gave up and played with the heart and skill they have shown time and time again. Their committment to each other was outstanding. The game was clean, hard and fast and remained tense till the final whistle. The teams had the privelege of playing this game with one of the best referees, if not THE best referee we have seen. The game was truly decided on the field by the players. Performance Fantastique Quebec !!! Congratulations to our amazing FLAMES. We couldn't be more proud of you. On a final note ... Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, to Richard, Rob, Errol, Charlie, Louise and Julie for your leadership and care at the Nationals and thanks also to all the other soccer friends who supported the girls throughout the 2006 season.
CONGRATULATIONS TO RICHMOND HILL ... THE 2006 U17 ONTARIO YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE CHAMPS!!!
For the second year in a row the Hill has captured the league title. Well done Hill!!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO WATERLOO ... THE 2006 U17 ONTARIO CUP CHAMPS!!!
Beautiful day for soccer at the OSA. The Waterloo team played a tight game. First to the ball, direct challenges for the ball, great distribution and hard play won this game for the Hawks. Very few chances either way and the lone goal at the 23rd minute gave Loo the edge and they defended and pressed well to keep their lead for the remaining 67 minutes. Burlington came very close to tieing it up but was kept off the board by the dreaded cross bar in the last fifteen minutes of play. Thanks to the Hawks and the Flash for giving the fans an afternoon of quality soccer.
FLAMES CAPTURE U18 ONTARIO CUP CHAMPIONSHIP
The Forest United Flames captured the Ontario Cup for the fifth time in six years today at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Since age 12 with the exception of the U15 year the FLAMES have been victorious in Ontario's signature provincial soccer tournament. Today's game took place under cloudy skies. A slight breeze provided some relief from the humidity. The FLAMES came out strong from the whistle and the play started in the Oshawa end. The first goal, at the sixteenth minute, resulted from a perfect corner kick by Michelle, with Carla making no mistake in sending it hard, fast and straight past the Kicks keeper. Oshawa applied tremendous pressure in the last ten minutes of the half and would have buried the ball in the dying minute but for a spectacular two handed save by Bridget. The second half saw the FLAMES hit a goal post in the first five minutes and then the game settled into a back and forth battle between these two determined teams. Oshawa found the equalizer in the last ten minutes of regulation time on another perfectly executed header from a corner kick. The final rushes resulted in an over the net shot by the FLAMES and a terrific save by Bridget to send the game into overtime. Double, golden goal, overtime did not resolve the tie, though again both teams had chances that were thwarted by some outstanding goal tending. Hot and tired, the players readied themselves for the final challenge ... penalty kicks ... and just like the game it went back and forth ... first the Kicks, then the FLAMES ... Becca, Melissa, Begz, Victoria and finally the fifth Oshawa shot. Like many times before in this game Bridget came up huge and gave the FLAMES the advantage with a diving save. The score stood at 4-4 and Michelle tucked away the final FLAMES shot to win the game. Both teams played skilled soccer with heart ... the fans could not have dreamed of a more exciting game !!! Congratulations Oshawa Kicks and Bravo to our own Forest United FLAMES!
FLAMES ADVANCE TO THE U18 OC FINALS
The heat and humidity were intense and both teams were slowed down by it at times. The FLAMES came out on fire and the ball didn't leave the Barrie half for the first five or six minutes but they couldn't convert on two early corners. The Spirit got organized and took it back to the FLAMES and converted a miscue for the game's opening goal. Despite chances and a strong FLAMES presence, especially in the second half, the score remained 1-0 for Barrie for most of the game. With about 10 minutes remaining on the clock, Melissa completed one of her signature finishes and put the FLAMES on the board. Although this momentarily took the 'spirit' out of Barrie they pressed with a couple of quick attacks but the re-kindled the FLAMES pressed right back. With less than a minute to go the FLAMES turned up the heat creating a scramble in the 6 yard box which resulted in a good clean finish by Begz to put the game away.

FLAMES ARE FINALISTS IN ORANGE CLASSIC U17 MILLENIUM DIVSION
Beautiful weather, grass fields, terrific soccer ... 80 teams in our age group alone ... and many adventures led to a great trip to the Orange Classic for the FLAMES. Playing in the U17 Milllenium Division, the FLAMES faced strong competition and every game was a hard fought contest. The first game, on a very cool Florida evening against Indiana Dynamo, saw the FLAMES doing their best to heat things up. They controlled the game, but could not find the back of the net and the score after 90 minutes was 0-0. The following evening with the weather a little warmer, the FLAMES faced the Texas Lonestars. A well played, clean match by both teams ended in the identical score as the night before ... 0-0. A chance to chat with a classy group of parents and players following the game was very pleasant. Interestingly, all four games in U17 ended in a draw this night. On Day 3 the FLAMES met the Mattituck Strikers from New York and although their play was not as strong as the previous nights they deserved the win which sent them to the semis later that evening. On what turned into an almost balmy evening following a brief rain shower, the FLAMES met the Lewisboro Extreme, also from New York and played another hard fought match. The FLAMES took an early lead on a PK which was later neutralized. A second goal put the FLAMES ahead for the second time and in spite of incredible pressure from New York, they held the lead to win the game 2-1 and advance to the finals. The final match against the same Texas Lonestar team was played in the hot mid day sun under a beautiful blue sky. Both teams fought hard and in the end the Lonestars completed their chances while the FLAMES had close misses, resulting in a 3-1 well deserved victory for Texas. Bravo Texas! Congratulations to the FLAMES for a successful week on and off the field. Hats off as well to the Burlington Flash, also in the Millenium Group, the Richmond Hill Raiders for their silver finish in Orange 1 and the Ajax Eclipse. The competition was top notch in both groups and Ontario teams showed well. It was also great to see many other teams from our province compete well in this tournament. The Orange Classic 2005 goes into our archives as a trip of adventures and adversity, sadness and fun. The care, concern and teamwork during the tough times will long be remembered. Thanks to the coaches ... Anthony and Richard, the laundry ladies, daring drivers, necessary navigators, grocery gurus, magnificent massagers, shoulders to lean on, fantastic fans and our fiery FLAMES.

Semi Final Game
FLAMES 4 British Columbia 3
The semi final game between Ontario and British Columbia was a game of unfinished business for the FLAMES. Meeting their rival from the Gold Medal game at U14 and having a second chance for victory was a dream come true. The dream, however, looked to be fading rapidly as the B.C. team took a 3-0 lead by the half. The second half saw the FLAMES dig deeper than they have ever dug. They were absolutely not going to let this chance slip away. An awesome effort by every single player turned the tide and one by one, play by play, the FLAMES took control. Karlie opened the scoring, followed by Begz. The tieing goal came off Victoria's left foot high into the corner and the B. C. team was stunned. The winning goal came from Melissa and then the FLAMES held off the former champs for the final fifteen minutes as they pressed to find the equalizer. The FLAMES accomplished their goal of defeating British Columbia and in doing so left everything on the field. Exhausted players and fans knew they had just been part of something special.
Gold Medal Game
FLAMES 0 Quebec 3
The FLAMES met a fast and skilled team from Quebec in the Gold Medal game at Mount Pearl. Quebec ... QC-F.C. Select Rive-Sud opened the scoring in the first minute of play when a ball failed to clear and rolled in slow motion across the goal line. A second goal on a high shot made the game 2-0 at about the 15 minute mark. The FLAMES pressed but penetrating the tough Quebec defence was a challenge. When they did have chances their shots were compromised by the steady attack of the Quebec defenders. The third and final goal came in the second period and although the FLAMES played hard till the final whistle this game belonged to Quebec. Congratulations Quebec on the Gold. Bravo FLAMES ... you had a great tournament and represented Ontario with skill, heart and class.
HISTORY
The Forest United FLAMES was a new team for Forest United in the 2002 outdoor season, but it was not really a new team. In 2001 the team played with North London as the MAGIC. In 2002 the team moved to the Forest United Soccer Club to be coached by Anthony Camacho, the Head Coach of FUSC. The 13 original players on the Forest United 89 Girls were part of the Under 12 Girls 2001 Ontario Cup Championship Team ... The MAGIC. The newly named FLAMES added some players to round out their roster and together went on to become the 2002 and 2003 Ontario Champs. The FLAMES also claimed the National Silver medal in 2003 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 2004 the FLAMES missed their bid at a fourth consecutive Ontario Cup Championship but still had a very successful season in their first year in the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL), winning both the OYSL Championship and League Cup while competing against the top ten U15 girls' teams in the province. 2005 brought a few more changes to the team including the additon of a new assistant coach, Richard Machado. The FLAMES added to their Ontario Cup record capturing the 2005 Ontario Provincial Championship, their fourth Ontario Cup in five years. This victory qualified the FLAMES for the second time to represent Ontario in its bid for the National Title, this time in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. The FLAMES won their preliminary rounds easily and in the semis they faced the B.C. team that took the Gold at the U14 National Championships in Halifax in 2003. Down 3-0 at the half, the FLAMES made a heroic comeback to win the game 4-3 and advance to the finals. A determined but exhausted team faced a fast and skilled QC-F.C. Select Rive-Sud the next day. Quebec won the Gold Medal game sending the FLAMES home with their second Silver medal in as many tries. While Gold was always the goal at the 2005 Nationals, the FLAMES can be proud of their record. In 2006 the FLAMES played in the U18 Ontario Cup and succeeded in winning their fifth Provincial title in six years. They say that things come in threes and the FLAMES 'three' is a third National Silver Medal. In October 2006, the FLAMES won the Silver Medal at the U18 Canadian National Club Championships in Laval, Quebec. No other U17 team has claimed five Ontario Cup Golds in six years and three National Silvers in three opportunities. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! GO FLAMES GO!!!
