Beautiful Start for an Opening Day!
It was very cold, rainy and ugly preseason but you could not have asked for a more beautiful Opening Day at Forest Hills Little League. The sun was out with the temperature around 60 and no hint of rain. Many a team would have loved to have gotten a few more of these days and practices under their belts but those are the breaks and it was time to play ball. Eastside Luggage was as ready as any team and won their first game over Dani's House of Pizza by the score of 16 to 6.

The team scored a run in the top of the first when Casey walked to lead off the inning. After one out, Brandon and Daniel B walked to load them up and Carter got the first RBI of the season when he walked to force Casey in with the first run scored. Brandon started on the mound and gave up a swinging bunt single to Dani's. The next batter lofted a fly to left field where Daniel E was able to call for it, settle under it and make the catch for the first putout for Eastside but then he alertly fired to second where Carter quickly tagged Dani's runner who strayed off first without tagging up. The first double play for the team!

In the second, Matthew started it off with a walk and Ethem followed with the team's first base hit, a line shot single to right field. After one out, Daniel E contributed with an RBI single and Conner got a RBI when his pop out to Dani's pitcher turned into sacrifice fly. Ethem had left third at the crack of the bat and had already crossed home plate by the time Connor's fly was caught. Dani's pitcher fired to third to get the double play but threw the ball into left field. Ethem somehow managed to get back to third, retag the base and was sent back to home and scored. Man, that was one ugly run! Dani's answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 3 to 2.

Brandon led off the third with a hard single but was erased when coach Mike sent him to second trying to stretch it to a double. Daniel B followed with a single and Eucly walked. After two outs, Max walked and Matthew smacked a 2 RBI single. Ethem followed with a 2 RBI double and gave the team a five run lead. The team would add to the lead in the fourth when Joshua started the rally with a walk. Casey and Ben walked to load the bases. Dustin got a RBI on his first appearance at the plate with a walk. Daniel followed with an RBI single and Carter, Max and Matthew forced in runs with RBI walks. In the bottom of the fourth, Dani's batter Brandon help answered back with a 2 run homer over the center field fence and made the score 12 to 5.

Jose lined a double to start off the fifth and Daniel E walked. After two outs, Ben singled in Jose to extend the lead to 8 runs. In the sixth, Eucly lined a single to start off the rally. Carter walked and Max knocked one in with a RBI single. Matthew came up and delivered a two run triple to make the score 16 to 5. With a runner on third and no outs, Eastside tried but could not bring in the run. Daniel E smoked a shot that looked like it was heading to center field but the second baseman tracked it down and snared it with a beautiful jumping catch to end the inning and rob Daniel. You were robbed!

Brandon started on the mound and pitched 2 innings. He struck out 3 and walked nobody. Casey followed and pitched 3 plus innings. She stuck out six and kept Dani's batters at bay. In the sixth, Daniel B came in with the bases loaded and no outs. Even though it was his first game ever on the mound, he pitched as if he had been closing games for year. He clamly struck out two and only let one inherited runner cross the plate. Both Brandon and Daniel did well on their first appearances on the mound. Lets keep that going! They were both helped out by solid outfield defense by Jose. Jose got to hits quickly and turn two into force outs. One from right to first and the other from center to second. Great way to start the season! Great game team!
