1. Stance-
Backs use a balanced 2 point stance. Feet are just wider than shoulders with toes pointed outward slightly. Knees about 4 inches in front of toes. "Grab the ground with the toes"- helps insure forward lean and helps prevent false steps. Weight on the inside of feet. Hands placed just above the knees with the thumbs in and the fingers out. No weight on hands.
This stance is used by the FB and HB’s at the diveback position.
Wingbacks will use the same except drop their inside foot.
2. Bird Dog Drill- teaches proper first steps (Step and Hold)
Explode for one step on command 6'’ 12'’ position step- Do not overextend opposite arm leg action.
Straight Ahead-
a. Right leg- left arm
b. Left leg- right arm
45* Step (fire step)-
a. Fire RT-left arm
b. Fire Lt.-right arm
Pull-(lateral)- a.Pull RT- left arm
Crossover(lateral)-Same arm & leg
a. Crossover left leg- left arm
b. Crossover right leg- right arm
3. Stance and Start (Take Off)- Sprint 5 Yards jog- 5 Yards on Command
