In the beginning ...
On February 11th, 1998 five girls met at San Martin Park to practice and talk about starting a soccer team. Laura, Adriana, Brandi, Frances, and Maria were present that night. Soon after Alissa joined the group to make up the original six Fobia girls.
The team's goal was to create a long term committed team ... a group of athletes that would learn, win (and lose) soccer games, enjoy the highs and share in the agony ... and more importantly to grow old together. Go to each others weddings, celebrate the birth of our children, and maybe to someday play with our daughters ... litte Adraina playing along side aunt Laura and auntie Alissa :^)
In the beginning we practiced and practiced, girls coming and going until we found an open age league that we could play in. We struggled to win in a league that played long ball and pushed and shoved, but we were determind to play good futbol -- to create space, make runs down the lanes, and pass to the open player.
We were also determined to keep only those athletes who were nice, wanted to learn, and who were committed to the team. Practices were manditory! Only family, religious, school, and work commitments were acceptable excuses. That left us always looking for players and many times we could only field the minimal allowed -- seven.
By 2000 we had enough players to register into an all women's leauge - the Orange County Women's League. We are currently playing in the Fall season and expect to win the 18B division.
Orange County Women's Soccer League - 03/27/2000
On March 26, 2000 we played our first game in our new league -- OCWSL.
