Little Brother of War
Before hockey became Canada's unofficial official national sport, there was lacrosse. In the late nineteenth century, lacrosse was enormously popular, a vigorous sport for a vigorous new nation. But it was a tea party compared to the way First Nations peoples played it. So furious, intense, and exhilarating was lacrosse native-style, some called it the...

FERGUS THISTLES LACROSSE HALL OF FAME
The Fergus Thistles Lacrosse Hall of Fame was opened in the Fergus and District Community Centre on June 26, 1986. The opening was part of a special four day celebration to honour the game of lacrosse in Fergus and all of the many people who dedicated their time and effort to a long love affair between a village and its citizens which still exists today.

The Thistles Hall of Fame is located in the north end of the Fergus and District Community Centre and is generally open to the public on a daily basis. It serves as a monument, which salutes and recognizes those people who were players of field and box lacrosse and the builders, those who spent countless volunteer hours organizing and supporting the club, which originated circa 1855 and continues to thrive today.

Thistle Notes (April 30, 1908)
Lacrosse is Spreading. London, England April 25th, The Times, discussing Lacrosse reform in Canada, says the elimination of the professional altogether would be the better course and adds that while Canadian Lacrosse is still the best in the world, the gap is rapidly closing up and the time is not far distant when an Australian or English team will be able to hold its own against any representative Canadian team.

Thistle Notes (August 12, 1909)
In driving from Guelph Monday night the Thistles made a record which would be hard to beat. When their cariole arrived in Fergus, the axle grease was smoking. Automobiles or airships weren't to it in a minute. A cow passed them in Marden, but the Thistles' rig caught it again before reaching Fergus. It (the cow) was certainly going some.

Thistle Notes (October 14, 1909)
Brampton Banner says they are telling a funny story down there about a Brampton Lacrosse enthusiast at a game last week in Fergus, who got so excited that he mistook a bottle of shellac for a bottle of linament and smeared the legs of the Brampton captain with the results being his legs becoming so stuck up he could hardly run in his new waterproof legs. The shellac was usually put on sticks to prevent warping.

Thistle Notes (June 6, 1912)
Former Thistle player, Jiggsy Harris, recently charged for murder. Thistle manager Willy Duncan, although shocked, said Jiggsy was always an aggressive player.
