Spirit of ’93 - Team Philosophy
PHILOSOPHY
The Spirit of ’93 Boy’s Soccer team will be known for their sound ethical approach and a positive attitude towards the game. Team members are to be treated with dignity and respect and are thus expected to treat others the same way. Sportsmanship and fair play create a winning environment. Winning is a by-product of a positive attitude and positive actions.
It is our desire for the Spirit of ’93 Boy’s Soccer Team to have a reputation for clean, hard play and attractive, possession-oriented soccer with a creative flair. Our players are encouraged to play as simple as possible making the game easy and fun for themselves. Passing, combination play and an attacking attitude all within the framework of a system of play combined with a commitment to teamwork and a positive attitude form the foundation of our playing style.
TRAINING
Small sided games allowing as many touches on the ball in every session is a major focus. Fitness is soccer specific and creative with players required to attend weekly sessions with Jason Riley, former U17 MNT Trainer. Training sessions focus on technique and tactical play. Video sessions are used in an effort to show the player where improvement needs to occur as well as supporting excellence. Our focus is to have 3 training sessions to every 1 game. Team trainers consist of Mark Shepherd, DOC as head team trainer, Ogi Perucica, current USF player and Mike Connell, former Tampa Bay Rowdie professional under the direction and support of Head Coach Brian Dozark.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
The philosophy of player development at Florida Soccer Club is to create a player friendly environment. With the game being the best teacher, training sessions are focused on technique, tactics and allowing time for free play so that lessons taught can be executed and supported w/o fear of failure. In addition it is our goal to provide our players with the necessary tools, experiences and exposure to maximize their individual potential within the team concept. Exposure to colleges/universities is a major focus at this point in the player development. The Spirit of ’93 team schedules showcase tournament play in an effort to expose our players to college coaching staffs. All players are encouraged to play the beautiful game at the collegiate level.

Spirit Boy's attend 2010 Muscle Milk Supercamp (Atlanta, GA).
14 players of the current U18 Spirit of '93 team attended the invite only Muscle Milk Supercamp in Atlanta, GA where they were trained and coached by college coaches around the country. College Coachs training and coaching our teams were from Univ. of Michigan, UNC Pembroke, Univ. of California Riverside, Radford University, Univ. of Memphis, Belmont and Coker College.
Spirit take US Club's Florida Cup!
March 2010 - The Spirit of '93 Boy's claimed the Florida Cup crown by beating Coerver Elite 3 - 0, RSL Knights 6 - 2 and Perdido Bay 2 - 1.
2010 FSL Playoffs Update:
March 2010 - Spirit beat Gainesville Rampage in FSL playoffs 2-1.
April 2010 - Spirit beat 2009-10 State Cup Champs Florida Nike Rush 2-1.
Spirit lost to FC Kyx in FSL Championship Match 0-1.

Spirit finish as Quarterfinalists at Score Showcase!
The Spirit of '93 Boy's completed their remarkable run at the Score at The Shore Showcase losing to Dixie Nova (Canada) 1 - 3. The Spirit had a 1 - 0 lead at half however could not hold on vs Dixie Nova. Brett Durrance was the leading Spirit goal scorer showing up on the score sheet in every game. AJ Black and Kevin Harvey also scored goals for the Spirit. A strong defensive effort was a huge plus with Cameron Roberts, Jake Baker, Kevin Harvey and Timmy Gillman leading the way! The Spirit got off to a terrific start by beating the Dallas Texans 2 - 1 and then following up with wins vs Seacoast United (NH) 2 - 0 (NH State Cup Champions 3 years in a row) and the Blackwatch Highlanders (NY) 2 - 0. The Spirit were the #1 seed going into the Championship bracket winning Group A.

Spirit Do Not Advance in State Cup.
After having the lead late in all 3 group play games, the Spirit lost the lead and finished opening group play with 3 draws and not advancing in the 2009 State Cup.
Spirit win '09 Tampa Bay President's Day Tourney.
The Spirit of '93 came storming from behind in the final 15 minutes of play to beat GOU 3-2 in the Championship game of the Tampa Bay President's Day Tourney. Jordan Hayes scored on a cannon shot from 25 yards out with only a minute on the clock to close the deal for the Spirit!!! Big D Darrell came up big with some nice saves throughout the weekend.
Spirit make it to semi-finals of Atlanta Cup.
The Spirit of '93 went undefeated in the A Division group play winning their group only to lose in a heart breaker in the closing minutes of regulation to Macon Hearts. While the Spirit had no problem scoring goals ( 9 in group play with 1 against ), they could not close the deal vs Macon.
Spirit win 2008 Plant City Jamboree
The Spirit were able to take advantage of an injured Plant City team beating them 3 - 1 in the championship game of the '08 Plant City Jamboree. Leading scorer of the Jamboree was Jordan Hayes with 5 goals. Working their way to the finals, the Spirit beat Brandon 5 - 0, took 1-1 draws vs Lakeland and Central Pasco and then beat HCU 1-0.
Spirit win Tampa Bay President's Day Tournament!
Spirit beat HCU 2 - 0 in the final game of the Tampa Bay President's Day Tournament to win Championship! In the first game of the tournament the Spirit beat RSL 2 - 0. The Spirit then played the St. Pete Strikers on Saturday scoring 3 goals in the first 6 minutes of play. The Spirit ended up in a draw vs St. Pete and then went on to beat Port Orange, 5 - 0 and HCU 2 - 0 to claim the championship.
Spirit Win Puma Cup!
Spirit win the Thanksgiving Day PUMA Cup beat Manasota 2 - 1 in the finals and going 4 - 0 in the tournament. Well Done Spirit!!!
Spirit Win Largo Halloween Tournament!
Spirit beat Central Pasco in Finals of Largo Halloween Tournament!
Spirit Win Adidas Columbus Cup!
The FSC Spirit won the Adidas Columbus Cup Tournament beating the Tallahassee FC 0 - 0 ( 5-4 in PK's). Spirit being down 0 - 2 in PK's came back to win with a miss from the Tallahassee forward and two stops in a row by the Spirit Keeper. CONGRATULATIONS SPIRIT!!!!
Spirit Win Atlanta Cup!
Spirit beat Carolina, FC in the finals of Atlanta Cup, 2 - 0.
