UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! When registering make sure you choose our new name: GCVB or South Florida
Hi club members!
The beginning of club is around the corner and I know many of you are also starting your school season. The new policy for USVBA is that NO try-out can occur for players 15 and up until the FHSAA State Tournament is completed. Gold Coast 14 and under began on September 1st. Gold Coast 15 and up will begin December 4th at 1:00pm. Remember that try-outs for other clubs cost money, and we do not have try-outs. The money you waste on tryouts can be used for other costs. The coaches have discussed some of the issues from last year and we are planning on choosing specific teams with specific players, not to exceed 8 or 9 so all will play (Keep in mind that other clubs keep as many as 12 on the teams). I have many of our coaches returning with a few additions and continuously try to resolve any issues from last year. Like last year, I will be a very integral part of the 14 and under development while Karen Adams (Spanish River High Varsity girls and boys coach) will be in charge of the 15 and older groups. I am looking forward to an exciting year of club and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to call me at home or on my cell.
Thank you!

She is part of the Palm Beach County Volleyball Hall of Fame and 17 time Coach of the year. She is presently in the Florida Region Hall of Fame and a member of the junior Administrative Board. All coaches are ex-players and/or ex-products of the club, many of whom excelled in volleyball during their college careers.

There are no fees for try-outs!!!!!
4) Practices are 3 times a week. They are expected to be attended or the coach needs to be called.
5) At any point during the club season a player may ask for a release provided their commitment tournament sheet is paid in full.
6) Click on the Handouts section (on the left) for important 2012 club volleyball tournament information!

RULES FOR PARENTS OF ATHLETES!
1. Make sure your children know that win or lose, scared or heroic, you love them, appreciate their efforts, and are not disappointed in them. This will allow them to do their best without fear of failure. Be the person in their lives they can look to for constant, positive encouragement.
2. Try your best to be completely honest about your child's athletic capability, competitive attitude, sportsmanship, and actual skill level.
3. Be helpful, but don't coach them on the way to the field, rink, pool, gym or track or on the way back, at breakfast, and so on. It is tough not to, but it is a lot tougher for children to be inundated with advice, pep talks and often critical instruction.
4. Teach them to enjoy the thrill of competition, to be "out there trying", to be working to improve their skills and attitudes. Help them develop the feel for competing, for trying hard, for having fun.
5. Try not to re-live your athletic life through your children in a way that creates pressure. You fumbled too, you lost as well as won. You were frightened, you backed off at times, you were not always heroic. Don't pressure them because of your lost pride.
6. Don't compete with the coach. You both have clearly defined roles that should complement each other. Encourage your child to respect their coach...they will learn more in the process.
7. Don't copare the skill, courage, or attitudes of your children with other members of the team, at least within their hearing distance.
8. Get to know the coach so that you can be assured that his/her philosophy, attitudes, ethics, and knowledge are such that you are happy to have your children under his/her leadership.
9. Always remember children tend to exaggerate, both when praised and criticized. Temper your reaction and investigate before over-reacting.
10. Make a point of understanding courage, and the fact that it is relative. Some of us can climb mountains, and are afraid to fight. Some of us will fight, but turn to jelly if a bee approaches. Everyone is frightened in certain areas. Explain that courage is not the absence of fear, but a means of doing something in spite of fear or discomfort.
The job of the parent of an athletic child is a tough one, and it takes a lot of effort to do it well. It is worth all the effort when you hear your youngster say, "My parents really helped...they are the best!"
Harassment Policy As Per USAV:
“We are a member club of the Florida Region of USA Volleyball. As a player you may stop any unwanted contact from a club representative simply by asking (either verbally or in writing) that all contact cease. Any player believing a club representative of any Florida Region Volleyball club has been intimidating, harassing, or acted inappropriately in any manner of contact or recruiting should contact the Florida Region office at (352) 742-0080.”
