GYM-N-LEARN

Don't miss the chance to be in the first fitness-based education program. This class is a fitness based learning program that can help prevent childhood obesity with nutritional information and a gymnastic class and a dance class each session. Your child will receive a well-rounded educational experience to help prepare them for school - socially, mentally, and physically.

• Qualifyied professional teaching staff led by JoAnne Thaw who has a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A in Physical Education
• Classes are offered in the morning. We are advertising for 3-4 year olds two days a week, but if the enrollment is high enough we will offer one day for 3 year olds and two days for 4 year olds.
• Various themes will be used such as Nutrition, World Holidays, Safety, Counting, Cartwheels, Shapes in Action, Listening and Learning, plus many more:

The Flip Flop Shop is owned by Jack and JoAnne Thaw. JoAnne Thaw is a retired (2006) teacher of Physical Education (32 years) for USD 373, Newton High Gymnastics Coach and a former Newton High Cheer Coach (2003-2006). The Flip Flop Shop celebrated 16 years of service to Newton and the surrounding community with the GRAND OPENING OF A NEW FACILITY ON APRIL 24th, 2004. RIBBON CUTTING for the new facility was Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 4:30 p.m. Jack is a retired (2004) teacher of 30 years for USD 373, a former Newton High School Wrestling Coach (20 years) and Middle School Track. He is currently head wrestling coach at Halstead High School, Assistant NHS Gymnastics coach and a counselor and social studies teacher at Holy Savior Academy in Wichita.

The new air conditioned facility is bigger with a full size spring floor, 20' Tumble Trak, safety foam pit, special tot room for nursery school, and large dance studio. FFS offers programs for students 18 months to 18 years. Teen and Adult classes in aerobics, dance and pilates.

CLASSES IN BALLET, POINTE, TAP, MODERN, AND HIPHOP/JAZZ.

Ashley Brilke. We are excited to have a well-qualified and experienced dance teacher joing our staff this fall. Ashley Brilke started tap, jazz, and ballet lessons at a very young age and as she became more interested in dancing she auditioned and made the competition team. Her team brought home blues and purples almost every time and also made the cut to go to Nationals several times. She has been in production numbers such as Chorus Line, West Side Stroy, Beauty and the Beast, CATS, and more. She also auditioned and made the dance team in college and went to California to compete with them before she decided to switch schools. She has experience in tap, modern jazz/ jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical, and musical theatre. Ashley began her own dance school while in high school so she could teach dance because she loved dancing so much. She graduated from college and is employed full time at the USDA - Rural Development office in newton. She is very excited to get back into the dance atmosphere and we are excited that she decided to join our staff! She hopes to have enough students for a recital next spring and do some perf0romances around the area. She is enthused about having a competitive dance team if there is enough interest to start preparing this fall.

PARENT - TOT CLASS - (18months -23 months and 24 months-36 months)

A class for the parent and young child to explore the "world of gymnastics". Learn how to "play" gymnastics and have a great bonding time with your child. Children learn the importance of movement and physical activity at a young age and the results are long lasting.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES - Celebrate your child's special day at the Flip Flop Shop! 1 hour of gymnastics/gym time with certified instructors. 30 minute party after gym time. Child receives a gift from FFS. We provide the table and chairs set up as well as clean up. $110 for 10 children; $5 each additional child added past 10. We ask that you book 2 weeks in advance with a deposit of half the payment due. 20% discount for FFS students. FFS can make exceptions on the 2 week advance if gym is open and staff available.

Penny Hiebert- Teaches tiny tots, tumblers and substitutes for beginners. She loves working with kids. Penny has two children of her own, one of which has been involved with the Flip Flop Shop for over seven years now. That's how she got to love the sport. Mikayla is in level 7 and also helps teach tumbling at the FFS. Penny has taught Sunday School for 11 years from kindergarten through 8th grade. She has also helped with Bible school and is active in the Praise Team in her church. She has been employed at Excel Industries, Inc. in Hesston for 23 years. She enjoys camping and working in her yard. Her family keeps her busy with all their activities, but she wouldn't have it any other way. She is a great asset to the Flip Flop Shop staff..

Brittany Dalke-a sophomore at Newton High School and a member of the Newton High School Gymnastics Team. Brittany began gymnastics at the Flip Flop Shop in elementary school and was part of the Flip Flop Shop team until entering high school and becoming part of the NHS team. She was also on the varsity cheer squad her freshmen year. She teaches the Tumblers, Beginners, both Cheer classes and substitutes for team and other classes when needed. Brittany enjoys watching her brother wrestle for NHS and also has a younger sister who enjoys the tumbling class at the FFS.

Katie Yoder - a sophomore at Newton and a member of the Newton High School Gymnastics Team. Katie has a long history at the Flip Flop Shop and began teaching the tots classes last year. She now teaches tots, tumblers, beginners, and sometimes helps with the Tumbling class. She is an active member of her church youth group and enjoys little children immensely.
