The Flip Flop Shop is owned by Jack and JoAnne Thaw. JoAnne Thaw is a retired (2006) instructor of Physical Education (32 years) for USD 373, Newton High Gymnastics Coach and a former Newton High Cheer Coach (2003-2006). The Flip Flop Shop celebrated 16 years of service to Newton and the surrounding community with the GRAND OPENING OF A NEW FACILITY ON APRIL 24th, 2004. RIBBON CUTTING for the new facility was Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 4:30 p.m.
The new air conditioned facility is bigger with a full size spring floor, 20' Tumble Trak, safety foam pit, special tot room for nursery school, and large dance studio.
FFS offers programs for students 18 months to 18 years.

DANCEWORKS. CLASSES IN BALLET, POINTE, TAP, MODERN, AND HIPHOP/JAZZ.
DanceWorks will be directed by Jahree' Thaw. We are fortunate to have a professional dancer on staff.

AEROBICS and PILATES with certified instructors.

PARENT - TOT CLASS - (18months -23 months and 24 months-36 months) A class for the parent and young child to explore the "world of gymnastics". Learn how to "play" gymnastics and have a great bonding time with your child. Children learn the importance of movement and physical activity at a young age and the results are long lasting.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES - Celebrate your child's special day at the Flip Flop Shop!
1 hour of gymnastics/gym time with certified instructors. 30 minute party after gym time. Child receives a gift from FFS. We provide the table and chairs set up as well as clean up. $110 for 10 children; $ 5 each additional child added past 10. We ask that you book 2 weeks in advance with a deposit of half the payment due.
20% discount for FFS students.
* FFS can make exceptions on the 2 week advance if gym is open and staff available.


INSTRUCTORS & COACHES

Jahree' Thaw is a native of Newton. She began her dance training in elementary school studying ballet, tap, jazz and pointe under the direction of Annette Thorton, founder of Newton Dance Center, until she was eighteen.
Miss Thaw continued her dance training with a scholarship to Stephens College (all women's college), noted for its success in performing arts. There she studied with guest artists from the Limon, Cunningham, and Horton modern companies, Laura Wade of Joffrey Ballet, Alan Sener, Doug Nielsen, Jeff Slayton, Bonnie Walker of Broadways "Anything Goes", Flynn McMichaels fo "Chorus Line", Carol Messacappa, and other various guest artists. Upon graduation with her BFA in Dance 1998, ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, musical theatre, choreography, ethnic dance (East Indian, African, Russian/Gypsy, Flamenco) she auditioned for and was accepted to the Intensive training summer at Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York City. There, she studied with former company members of NYC Ballet, Martha Graham Company, Limon Company, and Alvin Ailey Dance Company in NYC. Jahree' was accepted to the State University of New York for her Masters in Dance. During this time, she danced at Nancey Hervey's School of Ballet and was a company soloist for the Metropolitan Ballet of Wichita for 4 years. She performed in the "Nutcracker Ballet" and Spring Performances as well as danced the role of Queen of the Gargoyles in the world premier of "Merlin's Song".
Jahree' participated in the Miss America Organization from 1998-2001 during which she held the titles of Miss Arkansas Valley 1999, 2001 and Miss Boothill 2000. Thaw won swimsuit all three years at Miss Kansas , was Interview Winner in 2000 as well as 2nd runner-up in 2000 and 2001. She was a local talent winner three times and earned thousands of dollars in scholarship money. Jahree' was also 1st runner-up at Miss Kansas USA 2000 and swimsuit winner. Thaw was selected to represent Kansas at Miss Oktoberfest 2000 in Canada. There, she was selected as one of six finalists to peform her talent, ballet en pointe, on national television.
Jahree' was crowned Miss Kansas United States 2002 and came in 4th runner-up at Nationals.
Thaw has modeled since college for student designers and mall shows. She currently models for Exposure in K.C. appearing in commercials and print. She has appeared on television on the Steve Harvey Show and Ricki Lake Show as a hair model.
Jahree' has been a KSHSAA high school gymnastics judge for eleven years. She choreographed the KSHSAA 2000 floor champ routine and continues to do freelance choreography. She was a former FFS Level 8-9 gymnast and state champion on vault, as well as a former Newton High School gymnast and state qualifier 3 years, and silver medalist on beam 1993 (9.55), currently holds floor, beam, bars, and all around records for NHS. She was a Newton High Cheer Coach for two years and is the FFS Team Coach and Dance Instructor. She enjoys art, painting, graphic design and long distance running.

Jahree' recently became engaged and will be moving to Kentucky after her July 2008 wedding!

Chelsea Salsbery is a former FFS Team member and is a graduate of Newton High School. She began her training later in elementary school and quickly moved up to Team. She finished her Team career as a Level 6 gymnast at FFS. Chelsea was a Newton High School Gymnast for four years and was a two-year varsity cheerleader. She is an aide/instructor for Tumbling, Tots, Tumblers, and Beginners. She is currently the advanced class teacher preparing students for team. Chelsea works part time at Citizens State Bank and attends Hutchinson Community College.
