Bit of Hockey Trivia:

The NHL's first All Star game was held in 1937 at the Leaf's Garden in Montreal, Canada.  The games were initially organized as fundraisers for players or families of the players in need. In 1967 it was decided that the All Star game should be played mid season instead of prior to the start of the regular season.  Then in 1969, the teams were divided into the Eastern and Western divisions, which allowed more players from different teams the opportunity to participate.(nhl.com)
