COUGARS MAKE IT A SEASON TO REMEMBER!

PB6
Celebration!

The Fallston Cougars went into this game as the underdog.  The Sun did not even think Fallston would be in the Finals.  They thought they should have lost to Largo.  The basketball community did not even know where Harford County was-much less Fallston.  They thought that Paint Branch would annihilate the Cougars.  Paint Branch themselves already had t-shirts and buttons printed with BK2BK-which stands for Back to Back (State Champions) and a championship cake ready to cut for the after game celebration.  What this community at large did not realize was that the Cougars had 15 girls and 3 coaches that believed!  What they did not realize was that they had about 1500 Fallston fans that believed! What they did not realize was that The Fallston Cougars Girls' Basketball team had not lost a game all year, and they were going into this game BELIEVING that hard work, team dedication and smart basketball would win this game!  And a lot of COUGAR HEART!

The first quarter did not start off in Cougar fashion.  Jess did not win the jump ball tap and Paint Branch scored within the first three seconds.  WOW! So, this other team was the real deal and showed it with an early 8-2 run on the Cougars.  The only score in those early minutes came from Lindsay off on offensive rebound and put back.  This was a gut check for Fallston.  No one said a State Championship title would be easy!  The Paint Branch Panthers had scouted well.  They were not going to let the Jess-Rachael combination get any easy fast break baskets off the defensive boards.  Fallston was going to have to win this game on their half court offense and great defense.  Caroline was playing some stellar defense.  Her hand was constantly in a Panther's face forcing bad shots. But, with Lindsay in foul trouble with 3 fouls in the first 3 minutes-Amanda and McKenzie had to step up big time.  The Panthers' scouting had also forgotton about Monica.  This pint sized guard with a giant's heart was not about to let her Cougar team down without a fight.  Monica hits a big three to tie this game at 12!  The Cougars continue to claw their way through the first quarter and finish the first eight minutes ahead, 16-12.

This battle between the Big Cats had just begun.  Rachael continued to jig-jag her way through the lane-seeming to find the smallest openings to squeeze herself through to get to the basket.  Rachael makes some sweet moves to score two layups and Monica again scores a three!  Jess is being stalked by multiple Panthers but she manages to score a basket and get to the line.  But, these Montgomery County girls are not defending state champions for nothing-their starting line up consisted of 4 seniors and 1 outstanding sophomore that are ranked #3 in the Washington Metro polls.  The Panthers' forwards used their size to have their way in the paint and their outside shooting was dead on.  The Cougars go to halftime with a 23-22 lead, but know that they have just gone to battle with a fierce competitor and will need to stay strong to win this war.

Fallston comes out from the break with some plans that were quickly thwarted with a turnover.  It becomes a clear struggle for the Cougars.  The Panthers bigs are not allowing anything easy in the paint.  If you dare to go there, you pay a costly price.  Amanda, McKenzie, Jess and Allysa combined tried to stop their forwards, but when the four of them are outweighed by the two Panthers it is like trying to stop a freight train by putting a car on the tracks.  Quigley (Boston U) and Hislop (JMU) take over for the Panthers who go on an 11-0 run.  Paint Branch is up by 7 near the end of three, when who steps up yet again?-MONICA.  Mon hits another big 3 to close it to four.  With only seconds left, the Panther's Moseley drains a three of her own at the buzzer.  For any other team-this would be a heart breaker.  For the Cougars, it is just another point to have to get back in the fourth quarter.   The Panthers win this battle and quarter.  The Cougars are down 35-42, but certainly not out.

Fallston knows that these last 8 minutes will need to be the battle of the season.  Leave it all on the floor and just hope that it will be enough.  This was the first time all season the Cougars were ever behind going into the final quarter.  With Fallston's family, friends, teachers, administration and teammates all behind them, the Cougars walked on the court with a plan.  Take it strong to the basket-make it count or get fouled and go to the line.  This was gutsy and smart.  The Panthers may have thought they had this game won or maybe they were a little tired from having to keep up with the tempo of this upstart Cougar team, but the momentum had shifted.  The Cougars were in the driving seat, both literally and figuratively.  Jess was driving strong to the basket.  She was getting to the charity stripe and making them count. There was a great play where Jess set a screen for 'Kenz to get the pass, who then whips it back to Jess, who is now posting up, to take it to the hoop to score and get fouled.  The Panther's big girls were in serious foul trouble.  Another huge And-One by Jess put the Cougars up 45-44 at the 5:20 mark in the fourth quarter.  Some great defense puts the ball back in the Cougars' hands.  Monica then lines up to shoot yet another three and is FOULED!   Cool as ice, Monica makes all THREE foul shots, putting Fallston up 48-44 at the 4:32 mark in the fourth.  Fallston continues to play aggressive zone defense-not allowing anything in the paint.  Amanda, McKenzie and Jess are packed tightly in the the lane-fighting to defend anything that gets past Monica's and Rachael's pressure defense.  The Panthers are struggling from the perimeter.  Jess drives the ball yet again, but this time dumps it to Lindsay, who is back in the game.  Lindsay scores and the Cougars are ahead 52-46 at the 3:10 mark.  The Cougars make two more great defensive stops and then Jess makes a spinning move to score and get fouled.  The Cougars are up by TEN, 58-48 with 1:28 left in the game.  But, the Panthers were not about to let this game slip away without a run of their own.  The momentum had shifted back to Paint Branch.  Moseley and Hislop hit some key threes and the Panthers were right back in this game.  The Panthers were fouling quickly, not wasting any time getting the ball back into their sharp shooters' hands.  Fallston was making their free throws, but the Panthers were scoring quickly and easily from behind the arc.  With just 7 seconds remaining on the clock, the Panthers had cut the Cougar lead to 63-62.  Jess gets the ball and is fouled with just 3.3 seconds remaining with the Cougars' clinging to their 1 point lead.  Jess calmly steps to the line (praying the entire time!) and makes both foul shots.  Fallston pressures the inbound by the Panthers and they are only able to get the ball to just over the half court to their senior forward, Quigley, whose attempt for three misses.

THE COUGARS WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, 65-62!

Thank you Coach McTeague for stepping up and leading this team.  Without your guidance and dedication to this team, this dream season would have never developed.  Taking a few basketball players and other athletes whose specialty lies in other sports and molding them into a State Championship team deserves COACH OF THE YEAR!

Thank you Coach Jesse.  You have dedicated three years to these girls.  You are their constant.  You bring calmness and understanding to the bench.  Your devotion to these girls is unbelievable.  Thank you!

Coach Brown.  You have been an inspiration for all the girls this year.  Eventhough your desire to come back to lead this team fell short this year-the girls knew that whatever obstacles they encountered on the basketball court would never compare to your fight to try to overcome your adversity.  Your presence at the regular season games and at UMBC gave these girls motivation to overcome anything.  Good luck to you in your quest to return back next year.  We love you!

Fallston Seniors-Monica, Amanda, Kelly and Renee-thank you for four great seasons.  None will ever top this one, but you have been a integral part of the Cougar basketball scene for four years.  Monica-we will miss your tenacious defense.  Amanda-we will miss your terrific steals and your constant smile.  Kelly-we will miss your great ball handling.  Renee-we will miss your fantastic outside shooting.  Thank you seniors.  Hopefully, this season will be full of wonderful memories for you and your future will hold unboundless opportunities.

To the remaining 11 girls.  It is not just about the points you score in games.  It is not just about the rebounds your pull or the steals you get.  It is not just about the defense you play in the games.  It IS what you bring every day in practice.  It IS about your 100% support of your teammates.  It IS about being the nucleus that will continue the proud tradition of being a Fallston Cougar basketball player.  Thank you girls!

This outstanding game was a culmination of an unbelievable season. Never was this season about just one girl.  Never was this season about just one game.  All 15 girls contributed to the 28-0 record and this State Title.  When you come back to visit Fallston for years to come-look up on that wall and see that banner.   Fallston Cougars Girls' Basketball 2008-2009-STATE CHAMPIONS 3A-know that you were a part of that season to remember.

Fallston plays D!

Cougars are in the State Finals!

L11
Again some great D! Jess may have got away with one!

Keeping with the great tradition of Fallston athletics, the Cougars are once again in the finals-this time it is the girl's basketball team. Most people in the basketball world do not even know where Harford County is much less where Fallston is located, but tonight the mighty Cougars have put Fallston on the basketball map. The underdog Cougars took it to the Lions of Largo and ran them into the ground.

Fallston controlled the opening tip and Rachael took it so fast to the basket, most of the Largo team had not even turned around yet. But, she took it just a bit too fast and just missed the lay up. The Cougars turned and ran back on defense and the game started in earnest. The Cougars were out hustling the Lions. They were out rebounding the Lions, and they were out playing the Lions. After 8 minutes the Cougars were up 19-10.

The second quarter was a Cougar lesson on how to take the ball to the hoop on every possession. Fallston used their quick defensive rebounds to convert to easy baskets, constantly looking up court and taking it to the paint. The Lions had no other option but to foul and quickly racked up the infractions. The Cougars meanwhile played great defense and did not let any Lion players get open looks at the basket. Fallston goes to the halftime break with a 36-19 lead.

The second half belongs to the Cougars. Knowing that, the fans were a little surprised when Largo made a run on Fallston, shrinking the Cougar lead to just 7. But, after a time out and some regrouping the Cougars went back to playing team basketball. They continued to look for the best shot and notched up their defense. By the end of the third quarter, Fallston had stretched the lead back into double figures and was ahead, 54-42.

The Cougars had broke Largo. They had made them used all their energy in the third quarter just to shrink the Cougar lead, and had nothing left for the fourth quarter. In contrast, the Cougars looked rejuvenated. They were pushing the ball up court on fast breaks and hustling for every rebound. Fallston scored the most points ever in a quarter with 26! And this was after 24 minutes of hard playing basketball. The Cougar team played with so much heart and determination, it was a proud day to wear the Orange Nation colors. Final score was 80-65. The most scored by Fallston this year!

Jess Harlee had an amazing game tonight with 26 points and 22 rebounds. Jess was dominating on the boards and seemed to always find her open teammate up court. Harlee also had 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Her foul shooting was text book-going 13 for 15 from the charity stripe.

Rachael Holehouse was fantastic tonight and did not play like a freshman. With ice in her veins she stepped to the line for her foul shots and drilled 10 for 14. Rachael finished the night with 22 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds. Rachael's ball handling was outstanding-she was constantly dribbling under duress and it never seemed to bother her. Great job Rachael!

Monica Fischer is my unsung hero again tonight. Monica was our other ball handler that was constantly bringing the ball up the court with the defense playing all over her. Monica never picked up her dribble and was always looking up court. Mon could not slack off on defense either. She pulled the unenviable duty of guarding their very quick point guard who score over thirty in her last game. Mon and the rest of the team held this girl to under 20. Fish finished the night with 10 points, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds. Fallston is thankful every game that you decided to play basketball this season! You have given us so many great memories!

Lindsay Garnett got into foul trouble early, but this did not hamper her from scoring in double digits tonight. Lindsay contributed 10 points and 4 rebounds in her limited minutes. Great job Lindsay!

Fallston would not be the same without these two soccer players turned basketball defensive specialist. Amanda Mathis and McKenzie Hannahs have both elevated the defensive pressure that the Cougars put on their opponents. Amanda Mathis gets my award this year for most improved. Every game Amanda continues to impress the fans with her on court poise and her aggressive defense. Amanda added 4 points tonight and had 3 rebounds. McKenzie Hannahs' quick feet slide constantly to cut off any opponent's drive to the basket. McKenzie does not let any of the pressure get to her, she just continues to work hard on the court. 'Kenz finished the night with 4 points, 2 boards, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Junior, Caroline Shotto and Senior, Kelly Smith both finished the game with 2 points. Caroline also had 1 rebound. Senior, Renee Badger also had one rebound.

The Season began back on December 6th with Fallston traveling to Patterson Mill for their first "real" game of the season. Now, 3 months and 27 games later, Fallston is still playing basketball. And now, only one game remains, and it is for the number 1 spot in AAA basketball. The Cougars will take on the senior laden Montgomery County team,  Paint Branch at 8pm on Saturday at UMBC. We will need all our fans and friends in attendance to cheer for the Fallston Cougars.

This is truly a SEASON TO REMEMBER! Come be a part of the memories!

Fallston Cougars are on their way to the FINAL FOUR!

Fallston High School Regional Champions 2009

The Cougars were taking nothing for granted.  Fallston knew that they had beat Aberdeen twice in the regular season-but this was States-and everything was on the line.   So, the Cougars came out fast and hard and controlled the game from the opening tip.  This one finally was over with the final score at 62-44.

Fallston jumped out to an early lead and at the 3:46 mark in the 1st quarter they were doing everything right and the score reflected it at 16-7.  Then both teams settled down and played some defense and at the end of one the score was 18-9.

Fallston then blows the game wide open in the second quarter.   Their shots were falling, their back door cuts were working and their defense was outstanding.  The Cougars go into half time with a 35-16 lead.

Fallston remembers that they had a lead going into last year's Regional playoffs against Atholton that evaporated very quickly in the second half, so they were not going to let up.  They continued to push the ball up court and got back quickly on defense, contesting every outside shot with a hand in the face.  Fallston pushes their lead to over 30 in the 3rd quarter.

The fourth quarter was a lesson in patience.  With the substitutions made and the game well in hand with a Cougar lead of over 30, Aberdeen continues to foul and press.  With six minutes on the clock the game takes another half hour to finish.  Aberdeen's reward for continuing this foolishness was to lose by 18 instead of 30.  The Cougars win game #26 by a score of 62-44.

The dynamic duo of Rachael Holehouse and Jess Harlee continues to roll.  Rachael finished the game with a strong 18 points, 4 assists and 1 rebound.  Jess was right behind her with 16 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Nice job Ladies!

Caroline Shotto found her shot today (it has been in hiding the last couple of games-but better late than never!)  Caroline  contributed with a strong 9 points.  Welcome back Caroline!

McKenzie Hannahs, our defensive specialist, did a great job stifling Taylor.  McKenzie also added 4 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Amanda Mathis shoots a 3 and it was GOOD!  Amanda also had 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.  Nice job out there Amanda!

Lindsay Garnett had 2 huge blocks today-and says NOT IN MY HOUSE!  Lindsay added 2 points and 4 boards to go along with her blocks.

Monica Fischer was all over Malloy and shut her down completely.  Mon finshed with 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 4 assists.   Thanks for a great senior year!   You are amazing....All Metro in Soccer....Recruited to play lacrosse for Hopkins ...... and a fantastic basketball player!   Thank you for continuing with basketball this year.  Some athletes may have decided to sit this season out-not you!  You came back and are stronger than ever!

Senior, Kelly Smith contributed with 2 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist while another senior, Renee Badger, also finished with 2 points and 1 rebound.

Erin Nosek made two free throws for her 2 points and had 1 rebound and Jenny Jones and Ashley Olhausen both chipped in with a point a piece with Ashley grabbing 3 boards and Jenny 2.

This team success has been in its ability to play as a team.  Every member has an important role to play on this team and accepts this role with willingness and grace.  You all are AMAZING!   Parents - you are also terrific.  I was listening to the Aberdeen fans try to coach their daughters from the stands and yell negative comments to their coach.  Your support of your daughter and her team has been unwavering-whether she is a player that gets a lot of time or one that is used sparingly-you never fail to cheer for the entire team and be positive.   Thank you to the girls and the parents for making this a season to remember for all times!

But, our season is not over!  All season long we have taken it one game at a time.  This has been another key to our success.  We will play the winner of Largo vs Great Mills on Thursday at UMBC at 7pm.  Ticket prices for this event are $8, so hit the ATM before heading to Baltimore.  Some teams bring bands, while others bring bus loads of fans.  So, we will need all our Cougar supporters for this huge game!  See you on Thursday!

Fallston soars to victory over the Eagle of Centennial, 46-31.

Cent 8
Monica at her BEST!

The Cougars had to play of very well prepared Centennial team tonight and were actually down in the third quarter for the first time ever this year until finally surging ahead in the fourth to blow this game open.

The first quarter started off in favor of Fallston with a comfortable 9-4 lead after 4 minutes, but then the Cougars stalled. Fallston uncharacteristically missed their foul shots and failed to get the rebounds, and Centennial took advantage and tied the game up at 10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Cougars played some great defense and pushed the ball on offense. Their controlled drives to the basket got Centennial's best player, #10, into some early foul trouble forcing her to take a seat before halftime. Fallston continued to run their offense methodically and took a 23-20 lead into intermission.

The Cougars came out from the break looking to break this game open, but the Eagles had those same thoughts. The outside shots began to fall for Centennial and 2 made back to back 3 pointers by the Eagles pushed them ahead of the Cougars for the first time all night. Fallston took a quick time out to regroup and then it was their defense to the rescue. The Cougars overplayed the passing lanes and played straight up defense to stop the Eagles dead in their tracks....only allowing them to score 5 more points over the next 12 minutes. Centennial scored just 2 more points in the third quarter after the two threes and the Cougars went back into the lead 33-28.

The fourth quarter belonged to Fallston. The Cougars were forcing turnovers with their terrific defense, and they look rejuvenated coming down the stretch. Fallston could see the light at the end of the tunnel and were sprinting to the finish. The Cougars' stingy defense held the Eagles to just 3 points the entire fourth quarter, and Fallston advances to the regional finals on Saturday, with a great finish, 46-31.

Jess Harlee had a great night tonight. She led her team in scoring, with 16, but what was really impressive were her 8 assists and 9 steals. Jess was dominating on the boards with 13 and also had 2 blocked shots.

Rachael Holehouse also had a very good night with 10 points. Rachael played great defense on #10 early in the game and was steady at the point. Rachael also had 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.

Playing a terrific game tonight was our junior forward, Lindsay Garnett. Lindsay came alive tonight with 8 points and played great defense blocking 4 shots, grabbing 5 rebounds and 1 steal.

Amanda Mathis-WOW! This was your break out game. Your layup on the run down the court was picture perfect. Amanda scored 4 points, but was everywhere on defense grabbing 3 steals and 1 rebound. Amanda also had 1 assist.

McKenzie Hannahs was relentless guarding #10. Everywhere she went, so did McKenzie. 'Kenz literally shut this girl DOWN! McKenzie finished the night with 4 points and 1 rebound-but her defense was impressive tonight!

Monica Fischer just bothered the heck out of Centennial's point guard. This girl was talking to herself by the end of the night after having Mon tag along with her all game. Monica finshed the night with 3 points and 1 rebound, but again it was her strength on D that was the difference tonight.

Caroline Shotto contributed with 1 point and 1 rebound while Alyssa March and Jenny Jones both had one rebound.

The Cougars have won 25 games on the strength of its DEFENSE.

Fallston will meet Aberdeen on Saturday in the Cougar Den at 3pm.

This will be the third time the Cougars have met the Aberdeen Eagles this year. It is the third Eagle team in a row that they have had to play (Northeast Eagles, Centennial Eagles and Aberdeen Eagles.) It is the most important game of the year and they will need their fans to ROCK THE COUGAR DEN!

Come out and support your UNDEFEATED LADY COUGARS!

Cougars warm up and finish strong against Northeast, 59-43!

1000 points
Jess is all smiles after 1000 points

Fallston had to move its game to Bel Air for lack of heat in the Cougar den, but the Bobcat lair was not much warmer and the Cats from Fallston were cold in the first half. The fans not only came to see a win, but also to witness one of their own score her 1000th point tonight. The faithful fanatics were not disappointed. Fallston continued to hammer away at Northeast, outscoring them in each quarter, and Jess Harlee was able to score exactly 1000 points in tonight's win!

It was not pretty, but the Cougars got the job done. They won the jump ball and continued to push the pace throughout the first quarter. After one, the Cougars led 16-9.

The second quarter was more of the same. Fallston tried hard to stop #45 from scoring, and all but shut down everyone else. The Cougar defense was outstanding, only allowing the Eagles from Northeast to score 5 points in 8 minutes of play. Fallston led 24-14, but Jess only had 7 points out of the 18 she needed for 1000 at halftime. Knowing that the number one priority was winning this game to advance, the Cougar fans were content that they had the 10 point advantage, especially considering that Fallston is a second half team.

Jess Harlee's teammates were not content with just winning the game. They continued to look for Jess and encourage her to take the open shots. But, Jess was being played tight and her outside shot just would not fall. So, the Cougars executed their offense and continued to score and look for the open shot. Fallston outscores Northeast 18-14 in the 3rd quarter with Jess getting just 2 more points. Fallston now leads 42-28 at the end of 3 quarters. But everyone still knew that Jess needed 9 points to reach her milestone.

The Cougars blew it wide open in the final quarter. The jumped into passing lanes and attacked the basket on offense. Fallston's up tempo defense led to fast breaks on offense. The Cougars were unstoppable and so was Jess. Some steals and fast breaks allowed Jess to score her 9 very quickly in this quarter, and the Cougars cruised until the final horn and finished with a 59-43 win.

Jess finished the game with 18 points-10 of which came from the foul line. Jess also had 6 assists, 10 rebounds and 5 steals. A big thank you goes out to all her teammates and coaches that made this all possible, both from this year's team and from teams in the past! Without your encouragement and help all this would not be possible today. THANK YOU!

Rachael Holehouse still continues to get things done, scoring 19 points and leading the team yet again in scoring. This freshman sensation also had 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds for an all around great game.

Amanda Mathis had an outstanding game scoring 8 big points tonight. Amanda also had 2 rebounds and stepped up her game big time-hustling on every play.

Lindsay Garnett led the team in blocks tonight with 3. Lindsay chipped in 5 points and also had 3 rebounds and continued to be a defensive presence in the paint.

McKenzie Hannahs had some great minutes tonight. 'Kenz took the ball to the hoop strong and scored 3 points. She had 2 great assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

Monica Fischer played a terrific game tonight. Her defense was fantastic with 2 steals and 3 boards. Monica added 2 points and 1 assist to be my unsung hero in tonight's win.

Alyssa March contributed with 2 points while Kelly Smith also added 2 points and had 1 assist and 1 steal.

Caroline Shotto had 1 steal, Shannon Propst had 1 assist and Ashley Olhausen had 1 rebound in the all around team effort.

Fallston will play their next game at home (hopefully!) on Thursday at 6pm. Their opponent will be a very formidable Centennial High School. The Cougars will need their fans again to give them the real home court advantage. Come out and support your FALLSTON COUGARS!

FIVE straight UCBAC titles for the Fallston Cougars!

ucbac21
Kelly squares to shoot while Renee looks on.

Everyone that knows the UCBAC system will tell you that the hardest thing about winning the UCBAC tournament is getting there.  Never in basketball has a Susquehanna Division contender won the UCBAC championship game for boys or girls.   Fallston was not going to let it start tonight.

The Cougars jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter.  At the 3:56 mark, Fallston led 13-2 making the most of some steals and great rebounding that were converted to points.  The Cougars were not going to allow anything easy for UNC-Ashville bound, Candice Fritz.   At the end of one, the Cougars were in control 20-8.

The Big Cats came out in the second quarter ready to pounce.  They put some quick points on the board, but then faltered on defense.  The Cougars were allowing the guards to sneak down behind for some back door cuts that resulted in easy points.  Eventhough, they maintained their twelve point advantage, Fallston was looking sluggish going into the break.  Halftime score was 32-20.

The Cougars came ready to finish off the Indians in the third quarter.  But, then North East made a curious substitution.  At the 4:22 mark in the 3rd quarter, Fallson was leading 38-22, when it seemed as if the Indians coach waved the white flag.  Coach Foskey removed his starting 5 and replaced them with 5 girls from the bench.  Whether the Indians had decided that there was no way they were going to close the gap and their starting five were dog tired or they wanted to give everyone an opportunity on the court, the Cougars blew the game wide open.  Fallston scored 23 points in the 3rd-the most the entire season and took a comfortable 55-22 lead into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter afforded a chance for everyone to play.  The Cougars played strong until the final buzzer when the scoreboard reflected a 61-30 victory. #23 for Fallston.  The Cougars have made it to the Championship game in all but the first year and have learned that every game is important in the Chesapeake division if you want the privilege to play in the UCBAC CHAMPIONSHIP!

Leading the way tonight in the scoring column was Rachael Holehouse with another amazing 20+ night.   Rachael finished with 21 points, 4 steals and 5 rebounds.  She also made sure to get her teammates involved and had 5 assists.

Jess Harlee had a very solid performance again tonight with another double/double.  Tonight she tallied 17 points with 12 rebounds to go along with her 6 steals and team leading 7 assists.

Monica Fischer had the hot hand from the outside, scoring 7 points.  Monica also managed 3 rebounds (How does our smallest guard continuously come up with the loose ball?-Must be her hustle!!) and had 2 steals and 3 assists.

Caroline Shotto and Alyssa March finished the night with 4 points apiece.  Caroline also chipped in with 2 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal while Alyssa had 2 boards.

Kelly Smith drilled a three pointer and Amanda "Mathias" also had three points but on a made basket and a made free throw.  Amanda also grabbed 3 rebounds and had 1 assist.  Lindsay Garnett was strong on the boards, nabbing 3 to go along with her 2 points and 2 blocked shots.

Shannon Propst had 1 rebound while McKenzie Hannahs pulled down 2 and had 2 assists.  Ashley Olhausen grabbed 1 rebound and had 1 blocked shot.

Great job Ladies.  Congratulations go out to the Chesapeake and UCBAC Champions!

Keep the ball bouncing your way!  The Cougars by virtue of their 22-0 regular season record received the #1 position in the 3A East for the Maryland State Tournament.  The ever important seed means home court advantage as long as the Cougars continue to win.     The Cougars will need to win the next 3 games to earn a spot in the final four at the RAC (UMBC's home court.)  The final four is an unbelievable experience!

The first game of the State playoffs will be Tuesday, March 3rd at 7pm @ Fallston against Northeast of AA Co!   Come out and support your team and be the Cougars 6th man!

COUGARS FINISH THE REGULAR SEASON UNDEFEATED!!!!!

ab5
Jess out jumps Tiffany!

The Cougars began the season with just one returning starter. How were they ever going to replace Howie, Spalt, Brit and Jess Steiner???? Then, they find out that their head coach would be unable to return for his 12th season.

While all this turmoil may make some teams fall apart- this team rallied around their new starters-two were old faces just moving into the starting rotation-while the other two were brand new to Fallston-with Jess Harlee remaining the one constant. 10 other girls took on the ever important positions of role and support players. All 15 girls find a way to contribute to the success of this team and become good friends in the process.

Mike McTeague graciously accepted the last minute invitation as head varsity coach while Jesse Cromley remained as assistant. It is never easy stepping into an established program, sometimes there may be bumps along the way-But if Fallston ever veered off the path it was not evident.

The Cougars defied all odds. These 15 girls and 2 coaches approached each game as a challenge and what was begun back on December 6th has now gone into the record book as a perfect 22-0 season. WOW!! Congratulations Ladies! This is an unbelievable accomplishment.

Whenever the Cougars travel to Aberdeen they know that the crowd will be a factor. Tonight it was no different. It was Aberdeen's senior night and the Eagle's goal was to win against a quality team before going into the state playoffs.

Fallston came out with a vengeance. Their speed, passing and shooting shocked the crowd into silence. Finally, the Eagle's coach called a time out at the 4:11 mark in the first quarter with the Cougars ahead 11-4. His girls needed a breather and they were supposed to be the quick scoring team!! Fallston finished off the quarter and they were pumped. The Cougars led 20-7.

But, there is no resting when you play Aberdeen. The Cougars were working the ball on offense and pulling down the rebounds on defense. At the 4:07 mark in the second quarter the Cougars had extended their lead to 29-12. But, then Fallston had a hard time finding the hoop, only scoring 4 points in the next 4 minutes. And they were giving up too many easy buckets and fouls allowing the Eagles to creep back into the game. At the end of two the Cougars held a 33-21 lead.

Fallston and Aberdeen are two very good second half teams. Both rely on their ability to score and to score quickly. The Cougars knew that their unblemished record was at stake. They came out of break looking to take it strong to the basket and to play some good defense. They accomplished both! The Cougars were jumping into the passing lanes, they were stopping the penetration and they were converting their good defense into quick offensive transition baskets. At the end of three, the Cougars had earned a 17 point advantage with the score at 48-31.

The fourth quarter was a lesson in patience. The Cougars were using the clock to their advantage, looking to score, but not forcing the issue. Their defense was tremendous-holding their high octane opponents to just 40 points at the 3:33 mark in the fourth quarter. At one point Fallston had extended their lead to over 20 in a game that was crucial to both teams emotionally. Finally the horn sounded and this game was over. Fallston had won its 22nd consecutive game and finished the regular season undefeated with the final score at 65-47.

Having a fantastic game tonight was Jess Harlee. Jess was in control on both sides of the court leading her team with 23 points and 21 rebounds. Jess also had 6 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocked shots and 1 drawn charge (boy, that looked like it hurt!)

Rachael Holehouse also provided some great offense to go along with her fantastic defense. Rachael finished the night with 13 points, 2 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

Monica Fischer also scored in double figures tonight with 10 points-hitting 2-threes! Monica was always looking for her teammates and had 4 assists to go along with her 1 steal and 1 rebound.

Lindsay Garnett came ready to play tonight and contributed with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and 1 FANTASTIC blocked shot!

Caroline Shotto got Fallston rolling tonight hitting the first shot of the night and contributing 6 total points to go along with her 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Amanda Mathis played with passion and scored 3 points and had 5 rebounds and played great defense. And speaking of defense, McKenzie Hannahs did a great job helping to shut down Tiffany Taylor. 'Kenz also had 4 fantastic assists and 3 rebounds to go along with her 2 points. Alyssa March was getting beat up under the basket (I think everyone has a lot of new bruises from this game!) but still managed to nab 6 rebounds.

Fantastic job ladies finishing out the regular season undefeated!

Next up will be the UCBAC championship on Monday, February 23rd to be played at Harford Community College against the still undetermined winner of the Susquehanna division (it will be either North East or Patterson Mill.) Girls play first followed by the boys in the championship game. Game time will be early 5 pm.

McKenzie looks to pass-maybe this was one of her 4 assists tonight!

Fallston JV Cougars end strong. Defeat the Eagles 41-38 in their final game.

Fallston's JV team traveled to Aberdeen and came away victorious in their final game of the season.   The last time these two teams met it was a close contest with Fallston ending up on top by 4.  This time it was even tighter with the Cougars coming from behind to take the lead in the fourth quarter and finally win by 3.

The Cougars' successful season ended on a very high note.   Overall they won 13 games and only lost 4-with 2 of the losses coming at the hands of North Harford.   The other two losses were against Delaware foes-therefore, we won't really count them!  The first year coaches, Ms. Whitback and Mr. Connelly did a terrific job turning these 13 athletes into basketball players.  Thank you coaches!

Laura Slemp had a great game tonight, finishing with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist.   Jenna Weyant was right behind her with 8 points and 8 rebounds.  Jenna also had 1 block and 1 steal.

Devin Brady had the hot hand tonight scoring 7 points.  Devin also contributed with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.  Brianna Worthington also had 7 points tonight and grabbed 2 rebounds.

Emily Nosek was working hard tonight bringing the ball up court and added 3 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.  Tori Wagner also shared the unenviable guard duty with Em and finished with 2 points.

Taylor Duck was brought in for her defensive prowess and caused turnovers left and right.  Taylor added 2 points and 1 steal.   Marissa Curran was a beast on the boards tonight with 11 rebounds to go along with her 2 points and 2 blocked shots.

Great season ladies.  Your fans loved watching how you improved with each game.

Thank you for a wonderful season!

Fallston's Senior Night was a huge success!

eb6
Our seniors working hard!

Where did the season go?   Is it already time for another senior night?

Tonight it was Fallston's night to honor our seniors Monica Fischer, Amanda Mathis, Kelly Smith and Renee Badger.  These four girls have dedicated the last four winters to Cougar Basketball.  Thank you and know that we will miss you all!   Fallston also has had two dedicated managers in Katie Bradley and Marissa Hyde.   Both of these girls work behind the scenes to make the Cougar girls' basketball program run smoothly.  We appreciate all that you do!

The seniors were introduced before the start of the game, but then had to get right down to work since they were given the opportunity to start and showcase their talent.  The Cougars' senior four and Jess played the entire first quarter and jumped out to a 14-8 lead.

The line up began to change in the second quarter with some substitutions.  Fallston with its ample bench was able to tire Edgewood's 8 players.  The Cougars went to break with a 27-15 lead.

The second half the Cougars exerted their dominance on the court.   They picked up the pace and forced the Rams to make bad passes and poor shot selections holding Edgewood to 5 points in the 3rd quarter.  Fallston was in control at 44-20.

In the fourth quarter everyone got a chance to take part in this victory.  The Cougars were able to get some points from a lot of different players tonight.  Fallston puts #21 into the books for a final score of 56-30.

The seniors really shined tonight.

Kelly Smith led the quartet with 7 points including one three.  She also had 4 rebounds and 2 assists.  Nice game Kelly!

Amanda Mathis had 6 big points tonight, going 2 for 2 from the foul line.  Amanda also had 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Great job Amanda!

Renee Badger was looking for her shot tonight and drilled 2 for 4 points!  Terrific shooting Renee.

Last but not least, Monica Fischer had 4 points tonight with 3 assists.  This little dynamo packs a punch with 3 steals and 4 rebounds.  Good luck at Hopkins Monica!

Jess Harlee scored a double double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.  Jess also had 4 assists and 1 blocked shot.

Rachael Holehouse had 8 points tonight and was looking for her buddies with her 3 assists.  Rachel also contributed 2 steals and 1 rebound.

Caroline Shotto was a smooth shooter with her 6 points and 1 steal while McKenzie Hannahs had 2 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

Jenny Jones had 2 points and 1 assist and Shannon Propst scored 1 point and had 2 assists and 1 steal.   Erin Nosek grabbed 1 offensive rebound.

Our three forwards worked hard in the paint with Lindsay Garnett grabbing 1 rebound and blocking 1 shot.  Alyssa March had 4 boards and 1 blocked shot while Ashley Olhausen had 2 rebounds.

Our final regular season game will be held at Aberdeen on Thursday at 6;45pm  Come prepared.  This is always a rocking place to play some ball!

Cougar Cubs corral the Rams, 40-21!

Fallston's JV Cougars are having a great season of their own, and tonight was no differnt.  The Cougars feel very lucky to have 2 great coaches and some very good athletes to share time on the hardwood.  The Rams are not as fortunate with just 5 JV players they know that winning will be difficult even if the ball bounces their way.

The Cougars were able to find plenty of opportunity to use all 13 players tonight.  After the first half they led 21-8.  At the end of three they held a comfortable 32-16 lead and finished off the Rams with a 40-21 decision.

Laura Slemp led the Cougars in scoring tonight with 8.  Laura also had 3 steals, 1 rebound and 1 blocked shot.

Tori Wagner and Jenna Weyant both had 7 points tonight.  Tori also contributed with 1 rebound and 2 steals while Jenna had 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot.

Marissa Curran finished the night with 6 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Emily Nosek and Brianna Worthington both chipped in with 4 points.  Emily also had 2 steals and 1 rebound and Bri had 4 rebounds and 1 steal.

Nicole Hanzigiannis had 2 points and led the team with 10 rebounds to go along with her 3 assists and 1 blocked shot.

Taylor Duck and Devin Brady both added 1 point. Taylor had 2 rebounds and 1 assist and Devin had 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Vicky Katsaros had 1 rebound and Christina Thompson had 2 boards while Jordan Wagner nabbed three rebounds and Jenna Cosentino had 1 steal.

Monica gets some air under her feet and wins the jump!

As players, you can only play the teams that are on your schedule, and tonight Fallston made the long journey up to Elkton to play team #20 on their schedule and come away with another win.  In a game that was fun for everyone, the Cougars were able to rest their starters and give their bench plenty of good minutes.   The Fallston Faithful Fans enjoyed the show that all the girls displayed tonight.

The game started interestingly enough with Monica Fischer winning the jump ball!  That's not a misprint-after the ball went out of bounds on the tap and the referees did not see who it went out on....they did a retap-but with the two closest girls to the ball when it went out of bounds.  Monica soared and won the jump and Fallston never looked back.  The Cougars were relentless on the press and were jumping into the passsing lanes on defense.  After eight minutes Fallston led, 22-6.

With this game well in control, the Cougars bench was used quite liberally.  Everyone was getting some great shots off.......sometimes 3 or 4 a possession and the girls on the floor had fans on both sides cheering on their made shots.  At the half the Cougars were coasting at 34-15.

Fallston continued to look to score in the second half and they extended their lead to 21 at the end of three with a score of 43-22.  In the final quarter the Fallston offense slowed a bit as they only scored 8 points but they matched their halftime lead of 19 finishing off the Crusaders 51-32.

With 10 people scoring for the Cougars, Rachael Holehouse was the only one that made it to double figures with 11.  Rachael also led the team in steals with 7 and had 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

Kelly Smith was feeling the groove tonight with 7 points and 3 rebounds.   Monica Fischer also had 7 points with 4 assists and 1 steal.

Renee Badger nailed two 3's for 6 points and had 1 rebound and 1 steal.  Caroline Shotto had 5 points while Jess Harlee had 4 points and 13 rebounds to go along with her 6 steals and 4 assists.

McKenzie Hannahs and Amanda Mathis impressed and thrilled their fans with their guard like dribbling.  Amanda finished the night with 4 points, 2 rebounds and a steal and 'Kenz had 3 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.

Best buddies-Alyssa March and Kelly Mattingly both contributed 2 points.  Kelly also had 1 rebound and 1 assist and Alyssa had 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

Others adding to the fun were Shannon Propst with 1 rebound; Erin "chicken legs" Nosek with 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal; Lindsay "hands" Garnett with 2 rebounds and 2 blocked shots; Ashley Olhausen with 2 rebounds and 1 steal and Jenny "broken nose" Jones with 1 steal.

Nice job Ladies.  Great team effort!

JV Cougars win big at Elkton Christian, 40-16!

The JV Cougars have found their groove and they have just been cruisin' their last couple of games.  Tonight's victim was Elkton Christian.

The only part of the game that was close was the first quarter when the girls were trying to get their legs to wake up after the hour long bus ride.  The Cougars were just really stretching in the first 8 minutes and still managed to pull out to a 8-4 lead.

The second quarter belonged to the big Cats!  They were awake now and playing great defense.  The Cougars held the Crusaders to just 2 points over the next eight minutes.  They were now leading 20-6.

Never looking back the Cougars were purring contentedly and outscored their opponent 20-10 in the next half during which time all the Cats got some time on the court.  Final score reflected 40-16 in favor of Fallston.

9 players scored tonight in this total team effort.  But, Marissa Curran had a stellar performance tonight leading the Cougars in 4 out of 5 categories.  Marissa finished the night with 8 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocked shots and 6 steals!  Great Job Marissa!

The only other category for the stats is assists and Laura Slemp led the team tonight with 4.  Laura also contributed 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 1 blocked shot.  Another solid performance by Laura tonight.

Emily Nosek brings her game every night and tonight it was no different.  Em finshed the night with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist.  Jordan Wagner presence was also felt with her 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Devin Brady was her steady self with 4 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist while Jenna Weyant had 3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.

Nicole Hanzigiannis also had 3 points but 4 rebounds while Tori Wagner and Brianna Worthington both had 2 points.   Tori was stuck on two with 2 rebounds and 2 steals and Brianna had 5 steals, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

Also contributing tonight were: Taylor Duck with 1 steal and 1 rebound; Vicki Katsaros with 1 rebound; Christina Thompson with 2 boards and 1 steal and the fiesty Jenna Cosentino with 2 steals!

The JV Cougars have only 2 games remaining in their season.  Their last home game will be played on Tuesday against Edgewood!  Come out and support your 12-4 Cougars!

Cougars roar past the Bobcats, 58-27.

Kenz says "Ouch, Charlie"

In keeping with the philosophy of One Game at a Time-Fallston was not looking past their opponent tonight. The Cougars knew they had a job to do and went about it in a methodical fashion, dismantling any Bel Air hopes that they would upset their cross town neighbors.

To say that the Cougars came out strong in the first quarter would be an understatement. Fallston won the jump ball and never looked back. The Cougars used their transition offense for some easy baskets and then pounded the ball inside. At the end of one, Fallston led 16-3.

The Cougars' speed is deceiving. They are quick on defense and just as quick on offense. On defense their hands are constantly swiping at the ball and their feet are moving and cutting off the drive or jumping into the passing lane. When they are not pushing the ball up the court on offense, they are using fast passes to find the open shot. Fallston takes a 29-11 lead into the break.

This year the Cougars are a second half team. They come out from the intermission in a controlled frenzy. They want the ball! They want to score! They now have settled into the battle and are ready to find a way to finish this game strong. Fallston scores 15 this quarter to double up on the Bobcats, 44-22.

The fourth quarter saw everyone get some time. All the Cougars played some great defense holding Bel Air to just 5 points this quarter. But, Fallston did not play just defense, they also put the ball through the hoop for another 14 points. #19 goes into the record book for a 58-27 victory.

Leading the way tonight was Rachael Holehouse with 17 points. Rachael also contributed 2 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Fallston fans still marvel that this girl is just a freshman.

Finding her shot again tonight was Monica Fischer with 13 big points, going 6 for 7 from the floor with a three pointer for the icing on the cake. Monica was speedy as ever grabbing 4 steals and 4 rebounds and dishing 2 assists.

Jess Harlee also had a complete game with 9 points, one of which was a beautiful reverse lay up. Jess was strong on the boards with 12, and had 4 blocked shots and 4 steals. Never one to be selfish Jess also had 5 assists.

Renee "where have you been lately" Badger used her minutes to her advantage and scored 6 points, drilling 2-3 pointers. Right behind Renee was Lindsay "Hands" Garnett with 5 points and 5 boards to go along with her one blocked shot and one assist.

Amanda Mathis, Erin Nosek, McKenzie Hannahs and Alyssa March all scored 2 points. Amanda had 1 rebound while 'Kenz had 6 with 1 blocked shot and 1 assist. Alyssa grabbed 2 boards and Erin had 1.

Caroline Shotto had 2 assists and 2 rebounds to go along with her 2 steals while Kelly Smith had 3 steals, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Kelly Mattingly had 3 rebounds and 2 assists and Jenny Jones had 1 rebound.

Great team effort Ladies! Take nothing for granted. Remember to play every game hard-as if it is the last of the season. It is a privilege and an honor to wear the orange and white of Fallston. GO COUGARS!

Next game will be against Elkton Christian. It is at the usual time-6:45pm and directions to the school have already been updated.

Taylor and Devin are ready to play

Fallston remembered their last meeting with Bel Air and were not letting down their guard.

The Cougars came out strong in the first quarter.  Making good passes and playing great defense.  After one, Fallston led 12-6.

The Cougars' intensity was key in the next eight minutes.  They hustled on defense and stayed between the basket and a Bobcat.  Their offense repeated itself in this second quarter, doubling their first quarter score.  Fallston went to the break with a comfortable 24-10 lead.

But the Cougars' coaches did not want their girls to get too comfortable.  They implored them to maintain their concentration and not let up.  Fallston listened to their leaders on the offensive end and actually scored 1 more than the first 2 quarters.  But, on defense they became a little lax and let the Bobcats actually score some points.  Still, the Cougars held a nice lead at 37-25.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Fallston defense.  They held the Bobcats to just 2 baskets for the entire final period while scoring 10 points to solidify a 47-29 thrashing.

Brianna Worthington is BACK!  Tonight she led the Cougars with 12 big points-turning what looked like impossible shots into scores.  Brianna also had 3 steals.

Jenna Weyant again gave a solid performance filling up the stat sheet in a huge way.  Jenna finished the night with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 blocks and 1 assist.  She did it all!

Laura Slemp was also impressive tonight with her 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.  Great job Laura!

Marissa Curran did a great job helping to break the press tonight.  She converted the long passes into baskets and finished the night with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Emily Nosek provides the steady hand.  Bringing the ball up court under pressure is no easy job and she even manages to score!  Em finished the night with 6 points, 6 steals, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Taylor Duck used some hard work to score her 4 points.  Taylor also had 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 blocked shot.

Nicole Hanzigiannis contributed with 2 points, 1 assist and 5 rebounds.

Devin Brady had 1 rebound and 1 assist and Tori Wagner had 1 steal while Christina Thompson chipped in with 2 rebounds and 1 blocked shot.

Great team victory, Cougars!

Next game will be on Thursday against Elkton Christian.  GOOD LUCK LADIES!

cmwb6
Great pick Monica!

It is always a big game when Fallston plays CM Wright and tonight would be no different.  In a rivalry that goes back years-this is the one you always want to win-no matter what your record.  The Cougars came ready to play.

Zone defense slowed down the first four minutes of the first quarter.  Both teams were feeling each other out and deciding how they were going to approach this game.  It is no wonder that the score was 2-2 at the 4 minute mark.  But, then the Cougars decided to push the pace and everyone started running.  At the end of one quarter Fallston led 10-7.

The next eight minutes made up for the first four of the game.  The Cougars penetrated the zone and got some nice baskets.  The Mustangs had no choice but to play man, and then the flood gates opened.  Fallston went to the break with a comfortable 28-18 lead.

The Cougars are definitely a strong second half team.  Their conditioning and athletism shine through when the other team begins to tire.   Tonight they kept running and pressing, and at what I would swear, a faster pace.  Their press may give up a easy basket every now and then, but they just turn and push the ball up the court and get the points back.  After three, Fallston surges ahead to a 13 point margin, 45-32.

The fourth quarter is for defense and this is what the Cougars do best.  They played great help defense and switched with ease from man to zone.  The Cougars took it to the Mustangs this year and won both games, which is always something the seniors love to remember.  All four seniors ended the game on the floor tonight with a final score of 51-39.   Congratulations to Monica, Kelly, Renee and Amanda!

Rachael Holehouse had another unstoppable night with 24 points wth some sweet moves to the basket!  Rachael also had 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist.

Jess Harlee was dominating on the boards with 19 and had 20 points and an amazing 7 assists!  Jess also had 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Lindsay Garnett is stepping it up big time.  She had 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot and was punishing on defense.  Lindsay finished the night with 4 points.

McKenzie Hannahs contributed with 2 points while Caroline Shotto had 1 point, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.  Monica Fischer helped out with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal and Kelly Mattingly had 1 steal.  Alyssa March also had 1 rebound.

Great job ladies.  This was a tough week with 3 games and with only 4 games remaining on the schedule there is no letting up now!  Stay strong and focused!   And most of all remember to ~ Play Hard ~ Play Smart  ~ Play Together!

Next up will be Bel Air at home on Tuesday!  GO COUGARS!

The Cougars are back on track.  That North Harford game was just a little blip on the radar screen, and they are now ready to take on the remaining teams!

Fallston came out and took control of the game from the first quarter where they were ahead by 9 with a score of 13-4.  They played even better defense in the second quarter, holding the Mustangs to just 3 points.  They went into the intermission with a score of 19-7.

The Cougars decided to score some points in the third quarter and came out strong!  Fallston was getting everything to fall tonight-which kind of makes up for Tuesday.  They scored another 13 points this quarter to push the lead to 17.  The score after three was 32-15. The final quarter was a total team effort.  The Cougars played good team basketball to a final score of 41-22.

Brianna Worthington and Jenna Weyant share the limelight tonight with 10 points.  Jenna was mighty on the boards, too, with 12 grabs.  She also had 1 block, 2 steals and 1 assist. Brianna was HOT tonight-hitting two 3's.  She also had 3 steals, 1 assist and 1 rebound.  Great job Ladies!

Devin Brady also found her shot tonight scoring 8 points and grabbing 2 rebounds and dishing 1 assist.  Laura Slemp was right behind, with 6 points.  Laura also hit a three tonight.  She added 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block and 1 assist.  Good work girls!

Tori Wagner finished with 4 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals and Taylor Duck had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.  Marissa was quiet in the scoring department with just 1, but got it done on the boards with 9 and blocks with 6.  Marissa also had 2 steals.

Emily Nosek added 1 rebound and 1 steal, while Vicky Katsaros had 1 block and Christina Thompson had 1 rebound.  Nicole Hanzigiannis contributed with 2 blocks, 1 rebound and 1 steal while Jordan Wagner had 1 rebound and Jenna Cosentino had 1 steal.

Nice job everyone!   This was a great team effort.  With just four games left in your season-make the most out of every one.   Next up will be Bel Air at home on Tuesday at 5:15pm.  This was a close one the last time you played them.  I may have to break out my pom poms again!  The battle of the Cats continue!

The Cougars put this game away early again by using their speed to totally dominate the Hawks.  After eight minutes the Cougars held a comfortable 19-7 lead.  The margin grew steadily to 19 in the 2nd quarter as Fallston went to the intermission ahead 33-14.

The halftime speech inspired Fallston to step it up even further and the Cougars sprung out to a 28 point lead after three quarters with the score at 50-22.  Fallston sent the Hawks packing in the final eight minutes and extended their record to 17-0.  Final score was 54-42.

Having a magnificent performance tonight was Rachael Holehouse with 19 huge points.  She also added a team high 5 steals to go along with her 5 assists and 2 rebounds.

Jess Harlee  had another double/double tonight with 11 points and a team high 14 rebounds.  Jess also had 3 steals and 3 assists.

Lindsa Garnett had another solid showing with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Monica Fischer and Amanda Mathis each scored 2 baskets for 4 points each.  Monica was a passing queen with 5 assists.  She also had 1 rebound and 1 steal.  Amanda, who is never afraid to get on the floor for a steal or rebound, had 2 boards and 1 steal.

Caroline Shotto and McKenzie Hannahs both had 3 points.  Caroline was quick on her feet with 4 steals to go along with her 3 assists and 2 rebounds while McKenzie was great on the boards with 6 rebounds and 1 assist.

Alyssa March finished with 2 points and 4 rebounds and Kelly Smith had 1 rebound.  Renee Badger and Ashley Olhausen contributed with 2 rebounds each while Jenny Jones had 1.

It was a great opportunity to have everyone get a chance to touch the ball in a game situation.  Great teamwork Cougars!

Next up will be C Milton Wright at their gym on Thursday at 6:45 pm.   The Mustangs gave the Cougars a good run for their money last time they met.  Come out and part with a little of your money and support your FALLSTON COUGARS!

JV Cougars lose in a close one to the Hawks, 21-27.

jv09nh
Jenna, Marissa and Laura watch the ball.

It was the second time the Cougars faced the Hawks, and Fallston was hoping for a different outcome this time, but it just was not meant to be.  The ball just was not bouncing the right way for the Cougars tonight even on their home court.

This was a close game in the first quarter.  Both teams were playing a little tight and their defenses was good.  At the end of one, it was all tied at 5.

The Cougars continued to struggle to put the ball through the hoop in the second quarter.  After only scoring 2 baskets, the Cougars went to the break at halftime feeling relieved that they were only down 9-11.

But, the drought continued into the 3rd quarter for the Cougars.  After scoring 5 the first quarter and 4 in the second quarter, Fallston could only muster 3 points in the entire third quarter.  The Cougars' defense was also feeling the pressure.  Fallston allowed the Hawks 12 points and found themselves down, 12-23.

But, Fallston came alive in the final quarter and made it a game.  They finally found their rhythm in the last eight minutes, scoring 9 points and holding North Harford to just 4, but it was just too late.  The Cougars drop their second conference game to the same opponent, North Harford.   Final Score  Fallston-21 ~ North Harford-27

The lack of scoring was contagious for the entire Cougar team with no one scoring over 5 points.  Emily led the team with 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals while Jenna Weyant had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal.

Brianna Worthington and Laura Slemp had 3 points each.  Brianna added 2 steals and 1 board and Laura had 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 block.

3 players-Devin Brady, Tori Wagner and Marissa Curran had 2 points.  Marissa was strong on the boards with 13 grabs and had 4 blocks and 2 steals.  Devin chipped in with 2 rebounds and Tori had 1.

There can be no hanging your heads this week, because it is off to C Milton Wright on Thursday for another good conference game.  Fallston beat the Mustangs the first time around by 10, but now it will be in enemy territory.  Good Luck Cougars!

Cougars sink the Mariners, 48-40.

Jess goes for the dunk!

It is never easy playing Joppatowne and tonight was no different.  The Cougars were a perfect 6-0 in the conference and J-Towne was right behind at 5-1.   This game was important.  Both teams knew that they needed to win, so there would be no letting up.

The Cougars came out quickly in the first quarter scoring the first 6 points, and after 4 minutes the Cats would be up by a score of 10-2.  But, the Mariners are too good of team to remain down, and they tied it up at 12 before Fallston hit a bucket right before the buzzer sounded ending the first quarter.  The score after 8 minutes was 14-12 with Fallston in the lead.

The Cougars continued to work hard during the second quarter, but nothing was easy.  Fallston was not getting any points off their press.  They were not getting any second shots, since the Mariners were using some great box outs.  Still, the signature to the Cougars success was holding true tonight-their defense was superb.  Fallston held J-towne's potent offense to 6 points in the second quarter, probably aided by the fact that Mariner's best shooter, Zamiera Jones, was on the bench in foul trouble.  At the break, Fallston led 23-18.

Both teams knew they needed to turn it up a notch in the next half.   The third quarter saw a dramatic shift in the foul calls against Fallston.  With Rachael and Monica is some trouble, the Cougars dropped back in zone.  This resulted in Jones hitting some threes to keep Joppatowne in the game.  With 3 quarters complete the Cougars barely could breathe with a 36-33 lead.

Fallston slowed it down in the 4th quarter and clung to their rebounds as if it were a matter of life and death.  With the foul count at 8 for the Cougars and 2 for the Mariners, Fallston sensed something was amiss.  But, they continued to work the ball around the perimeter and patiently wait for the open shot.  With their good help defense and fantastic defensive rebounding, the Cougars held the Mariners to 7 points in the last eight minutes. Fallston holds on for their second win of the season against the mighty Mariners with the final score....

Fallston 48   Joppatowne 40.

Jess Harlee put in another strong performance tonight with 15 points and 16 boards.  She also had 4 blocks, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Rachael Holehouse was not too shabby herself, scoring 14 points with 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal and having a very good night tonight was Lindsay Garnett with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Caroline Shotto scored 4 points and had 1 steal while Kelly Mattingly hit a three late in the 4th quarter that sealed the victory and finished with 3 points, 1 steal and 1 assist.

Monica Fischer was everywhere tonight leading the team with 3 steals and adding 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.  Alyssa March contributed with 2 points, 2 boards and 1 assist while McKenzie Hannahs had 2 steals and 1 rebound.

The Cougars are now 16-0 and have a big week ahead of them with 2 more games.  Tomorrow they will be at home to take on the Hawks of North Harford for a 6:45 pm game.  With each and every game important, the Cougars welcome all their fans to come out and support them.

Cougar Cubs sail past the Mariners, 30-19.

Fallston dominated Joppatowne from start to finish.  The Cougars used their size and experience to make this game look easy.  After one quarter they were in command with a 12-2 lead and at the half, the Cougars held a 21-9 advantage.

Not much changed in the next two quarters with Fallston continuing to play good defense and lead 26-13 after three quarters and finishing the game at 30-19.

Leading all scorers again tonight was Jenna Weyant with 10 points.  Jenna also had 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block.    Emily Nosek added 5 points and 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.

Brianna Worthington contributed with 4 points and 2 steals while Marrissa Curran had 4 points and 8 big rebounds to go along with her 6 huge blocks.

Tori Wagner had 3 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal and Laura Slemp and Christina Thompson had 2 points each.  Christina also chipped in with 2 rebounds and Laura was strong on the boards again tonight with 8 and had 3 steals and 2 assists.

Taylor Duck helped out with 1 steal and 1 assist and Nicole Hanzigiannis had 4 rebounds and Jordan Wagner had 1.

The Cougar Cubs have lost only 1 game in the UCBAC and that was against North Harford back in early January.  They will face them tomorrow night at home.  Game time is 5:15  It would be great to pay them back with a home victory-Come out and support your Cougars.

Jess gets up for the jump ball

Fallston needed a high scoring game to finish off the Eagles at home and came alive midway through the third quarter to put another mark in the win column tonight.

The press was calling this the game of the week in Harford County Girls' Basketball and it lived up to its high billing.

The Cougars came out quick in the first quarter.   They were driving it inside and looking to feed the forwards to take advantage of the height differential.  But, the Eagles countered with some terrific outside shooting.  At the end of one, it was all tied at 16 apiece.

Fallston floundered on some easy layups in the second quarter, but continued to play fantastic Cougar defense, holding the Eagle's potent offense to just 9 points over the next eight minutes.  At the intermission, the Cougars held a tentative lead at 33-25.

The Aberdeen coach implored his team to come out strong in the next half and the Eagles responded-it was all tied up at 36 at the 4 minute mark in the 3rd quarter.  Fallston was not going down without a fight, especially on their home court.  The Cougars looked like they turned it up a notch and were relentless in their attack on offense and their seamless switch from man to man to zone defense.  Fallston brought their "A" game tonight and at the end of three were leading 51-41.

Usually the Cougars finish a game with around 50 points, but tonight they needed to score more.  Aberdeen leads all Harford County teams in scoring per game, so Fallston knew they needed to score a bunch.   The Cougars used the last 8 minutes and scored a huge 21 points-this ties their quarter high against North Harford (and that was in the first quarter of that game.)  Fallston played hard for the entire game and came away with great win against a very good team.  Final score was 72-60.

Having an all around fantastic game was Jess Harlee.  Jess led all scorers tonight with 25 points. She also led in rebounds with 15 and steals with 6.  She finished with 4 assists and 1 blocked shot.

Rachael Holehouse was right behind Jess with a whopping 24 points.  Rachael did a great job bringing the ball up the court under constant pressure.  She also tallied 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Three players scored 6 points tonight-Caroline Shotto and our fantastic forward duo of Alyssa March and Lindsay Garnett.  Caroline was a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe and added 1 important rebound in the fourth quarter.  Lindsay and Alyssa both had 5 rebounds and 1 blocked shot to go along with their 3 buckets.

Kelly Mattingly had 2 points and 2 assists while Amanda Mathis, Kelly Smith and Renee Badger each scored on a free throw. Amanda was fierce on the boards with 5 rebounds.  Monica Fischer played great defense tonight and while her name will not show up on the box score she was an integral part in this win with 3 steals, 4 assists and 1 board while McKenzie Hannahs also used her great defense and chipped in with one blocked shot.

This was a great team win for the Cougars.  They stayed strong and looked for each other on the court.  If they continue to PLAY HARD-PLAY SMART-PLAY TOGETHER, they can accomplish anything.

Fallston will make up the missed game against Joppatowne on Monday night at J-towne.  Game time is 6:45 as usual.  The Mariners have only one loss in the UCBAC standings-to Fallston the first time around.  This will be an important conference game-COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR FALLSTON COUGARS!

JV Cougars defeat Aberdeen Eagles 30-26.

This was a close game until the final minute.   Our Lady Cougars Cubs held tough and won a hard fought game 30-26.

Fallston got off to a slow start in the first quarter falling behind the Eagles 6-8 after 8 minutes.  The Cougars found their rhythm in the second quarter scoring 17 points and taking a lead of 23-18 into the halftime break.

The Cougars really stalled in the third quarter not scoring a single point-yet all was not lost, since the score was tied at 23!  Some good defense and clutch free throws added another victory to the Cougar record.

Jenna Weyant had a very good game with a double-double tonight-leading all scorers with 11 points and 13 huge rebounds.  Jenna also had 2 steals.

Then 3 girls share the spotlight with 4 points-Devin Brady, Emily Nosek and Marrisa Curran.  Devin also had 1 board, while Emily had 2 steals, 1 assist and 1 block and Marissa had 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals.

Laura Slemp followed close behind with 3 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block and 1 assist.  Tori Wagner contributed with 2 points and 1 steal while Nicole Hanzigiannis had 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Brianna Worthington played great defense and had 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal while Christina Thompson had 1 steal and Taylor Duck had 1 rebound.

The Cougars will travel to Joppatowne to make up their snowed out game on Monday.  And then will try to avenge their only loss from the first half of the UCBAC games against North Harford on Tuesday at home.   Come out and make some noise for your Fallston Cougars.

Monica helps Lindsay double down on #45.

Fallston pulls away in the second half to take down Edgewood, 46-30.

EA3
Edgewood sits back in their zone defense.

The Cougars traveled to Edgewood for tonight's game and even though it was not a long bus ride, Fallston looked out of sync in the first half. 20 total team turnovers, while a bit high, is not unusual, but since 17 occurred in the first half, the Cougars could not find its rhythm in the early going.

Fallston won the tip and scored on the first possession. The Cougars set up their press, but Edgewood was well prepared. They broke the press with a little patience and then the Rams got the ball inside to their big girl. Fallston realized quickly what the Edgewood's game plan would be and knew they would have to stop #45 with some double down defense. They made #45 earn every point and put her on the line. The Cougars meanwhile were using their arsenal of offensive weapons on the other side of the court with all five starters scoring in the first quarter. After 8 minutes the Cougars led 17-9.

Fallston stalled a bit in the second quarter. Turnovers began to become a concern. Their shots would not fall. The Cougars continued to work hard, but nothing came easy. They could not put any real distance between them and the Rams. At the break, it was still an eight point game with the Cougars ahead, 24-16.

The Cougars came out running in the third quarter. They pressured the ball and pushed the tempo on offense. Stamina would be a factor. Like on a hunt, the Cougars were wearing down the Rams with their continued onslaught from both sides. Fallston pushed the lead to 12 after 24 minutes with the score at 38-26.

Fallston defense in the final quarter was tremendous. The Cougars continued to run the Rams and forced them to take poor shots and make bad passes. Defense wins games, and the Cougars held the Rams to just 4 points in the final 8 minutes. Fallston wins #14, 46-30.

Leading the pack in scoring again tonight was Rachael Holehouse. While our freshman sensation struggled a bit in the first half, she came through like a champion in the final two quarters. Rachael finished the night with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Jess Harlee continues to work hard for her points and earns her living on the boards. Jess led the team in rebounds with 17. Her quick hands had 6 steals tonight and 6 assists to go along with her 11 points.

The dynamic duo of Monica Fischer and Caroline Shotto both contributed some much needed points with Monica tallying 8 and Caroline adding 7. Monica also had 1 steal and 1 assist while Caroline had 1 assist and 1 rebound.

Lindsay Garnett had the unenviable task of guarding #45. This got her in some early foul trouble, but she stayed focused and found a way to score 4 points, grab 2 rebounds and 1 steal and block 1 shot.

Kelly Mattingly added a bucket and was determined to make a difference on defense with her 3 steals. Amanda Mathis was also a queen of steals with 3 and had 3 rebounds. Alyssa March contributed with 3 boards, 1 steal and 1 assist while McKenzie Hannahs had 2 rebounds. Ashley Olhausen pulled 2 rebounds and Renee Badger and Kelly Smith each had 1 board.

This was a hard fought victory. Even though some games may seem easy on paper, Fallston continues to walk into every game with a big X on their backs. No one likes Goliath! But, there is strength in numbers and with 15 girls on the team-you have the numbers! Continue to work as a team and take one game at a time.

Fallston will play Joppatowne on their court Tuesday night. This is a huge game against a very talented squad! Come out and support your LADY COUGARS!

Jess looks to pass

Thursday, January 22
JV Cougars dominate Edgewood Rams 42-19.

Fallston dominated an undersized and undermanned Edgewood team from start to finish.    The JV Cougars are on a roll with 3 wins in row and improving every game.

Edgewood's 6 JV players were no match for the powerful, multi-dimensional Cougar team.  The closest the Rams were ever to the Cougars was on the jump ball.   After getting their paws wet in the first quarter, testing the waters to see what kind of team the Rams had, Fallston led 10-6.

The Cougars jumped in fully in the second quarter-jumping into the passing lanes and jumping for every rebound.  Fallston never looked  back outscoring Edgewood 16-5 in the next 8 minutes to take a 26-11 lead into halftime.

Fallston's offense slowed in the third quarter when they only scored 7 points, but their defense continued to roll, stifling Edgewood to just 2 points.  At the end of three quarters, the Cougars had a twenty point lead at 33-13.

Fallston had worn down the Rams and the fourth quarter was an exercise in restraint and sportsmanship.  The JV Cougars win big, 42-19.

This was a nice TEAM win with 8 girls sharing in the scoring.

Leading the way tonight in scoring was Emily Nosek iwth 9 points.  Emily also had 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 assist.

Right behind her was Jenna Weyant and Marissa Curran with 8 points each.  But, Jenna's high light reel would have to contain some rebounding.  She led the team with 13 huge rebounds and had 4 blocked shots, 3 steals and 1 assist.  Marissa also contributed with 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

Brianna Worthington was looking for her shot tonight too, scoring 7 points, dishing 1 assist and grabbing 1 steal.

Devin Brady continues to work hard on the court and finished the night with 4 points, 1 steal and 1 rebound.  Tori Wagner, Christina Thompson and Laura Slemp each contributed 2 points with Laura leading the team in steals tonight with 5 and also having 1 assist and 1 rebound.  Christina fought her way under the basket and came up with 5 rebounds and 1 assist and Tori had 2 boards, 1 block, 1 steal and 1 assist.

Vicky Katsaros and Nicole Hanzigiannis each had 3 rebounds with Nicole also blocking 1 shot.

Up next for the JV Cougars will be Joppatowne on their home court at 5:15pm on Tuesday.  It was a close game back in early January in the Cougar den, so your lady Cougars will need your support.  Come out and cheer them on!

Jess boxes out everyone

The Cougars have finally cracked the Baltimore Sun's rankings and were written in for the week of January 20th at the number 13 spot.  Fallston was hoping that the number 13 was not an unlucky number for them, especially since this was their 13th game of the season, but the Cougars were all business and put any doubts to rest early.  They finished the night strong with all 15 players seeing some court time to go 13-0 with a final score of 66-34.

It was a little slow going in the first quarter until the Cougars press and defense became quicker and more effective.  A change in the press and transition baskets put the Cougars ahead 23-12 after 8 minutes.

Some very good outside shooting and some great defensive rebounds that led to fast baskets put some points on the board very quickly.  The Cougars lead had grown to 20 at the half with the score at 40-20.

After the break, Fallston came out firing, outscoring the Bobcats 16-9 and finishing three quarters with a strong 56-29 lead.

The final quarter sealed this victory.  Defense was key, holding the Bobcats to just 5 points.  With 9 players scoring, Fallston wins their 13th game, 66-34.

Having another outstanding game was Rachael Holehouse with 24 points.  Rachael also had a team high 3 steals to go along with her 3 assists and 1 rebound.

Monica Fischer was perfect from behind the arc hitting both threes.  She finished the night with 13 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 rebound.

Jess Harlee was going for a triple double tonight but fell one assist short.  Jess contributed with 10 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals.

Caroline Shotto got a piece of the scoring action with 6 points, 2 boards and 1 assist.

McKenzie Hannahs and Lindsay Garnett each added 4 points.  Kenz also had 1 rebound and 1 steal while Lindsay had 7 big rebounds and 1 blocked shot.

Shannon Propst and Kelly Mattingly both scored a bucket while Alyssa March scored on a free throw and had 8 huge rebounds and 1 blocked shot.

Kelly Smith saw some action and had 2 steals and Amanda Mathis had 5 rebounds.  Erin Nosek was also active on defense with 2 rebounds and 1 steal while Renee Badger had 1 steal and 1 rebound.  Ashley Olhausen pulled down 2 offensive rebounds and was not afraid to shoot.

Fallston is not quite yet at the halfway mark in the season.  There are a lot of games left to be played.    Remember to Play Hard, Play Smart and Play Together.  Each and every game you have to want to MAKE IT HAPPEN!     Good job ladies!

Next game will be at Edgewood on Thursday at 6:45pm.  Come out and support your Lady Cougars!

JV Cougars win a nail biter at Bel Air, 38-36.

It came down to some key rebounds and some free throws for the Cougars to hold on to this victory.

Fallston got off to a slow start, probably due to the icebox that the Bobcats call their home court.  The temperature in the gym was probably close to 60 degrees, and it seemed to effect the Cougar shooting, since they trailed in the first quarter, 4-7.

But, they warmed up in the second quarter, playing great defense and scoring some buckets.  At the half, the Cougars led 12-11.

Fallston must have done some jumping jacks during the break, because they came out on fire, scoring 19 points in the 3rd quarter.  They hustled on defense, picking off passes left and right.  After three, the Cougars lead had grown to 31-17.

The final quarter, the Bobcats came out with great intensity.  They caught the Cougars taking a cat nap.  Fallston woke up with the score tied at 34 after the Bobcats drilled a three.  It was a cat fight for the rest of the game with each team clawing for the rebounds and loose balls.  The Cougars got position on the rebounds and the Bobcats had to foul. Fallston's clutch free throws won the game.  Final score was: Fallston 38-Bel Air 36.

Leading the pack tonight was Jenna Weyant with a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Jenna also had 2 steals and 1 block.  Great game Jenna.

Laura Slemp had an excellent night with 9 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist. Emily Nosek was jumping in the passing lane and led the team in steals with 7.  She finished the night with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block and 1 assist.  Nice job Ladies.

Marissa Curran was powerful on the boards and led the team with 12 rebounds and 4 blocks.  She also contributed 4 points and 1 assist.  Good game Marissa.

Tori Wagner, Christina Thompson, and Nicole Hanzigiannis all chipped in 2 points. Tori added a rebound and an assist, while Nicole had 2 boards and 1 assist.   Brianna Worthington helped out with 1 point, 2 steals and 1 rebound.  Devin Brady contributed with 3 rebounds and 3 steals and Taylor Duck had 1 block, 1 steal and 1 assist.  Way to hustle Ladies.

The Cougars will be in action again on Thursday, on the road in Edgewood.  Game time is 5:15 pm.  Great turn out tonight for the JV game.  Thanks for all the fans that traveled.

cmw2
Jess makes a great pass to waiting Amanda.

The Fallston Cougars needed a strong second half to put some distance between them and the C Milton Wright Mustangs to continue their winning ways.

The Mustangs came out strong in the first few minutes of the game and were actually ahead of the Cougars 0-4 on the strong play of their post player Michaela Hardy.  The Cougars did not panic, they tightened up their defense, and while not getting any steals from their press, they slowed down the Mustang offense.  At the end of 8, the Cougars were ahead 9-6.

The Cougars came out strong in the second quarter, scoring the first two baskets, but did not pull away for good.  The Mustangs' never die attitude continued to attack the Cougars down low.  After two quarters of play the Cougars still had just a 3 point advantage, 16-13.

A different Fallston team returned after the break.  They looked faster and stonger.  They took it to the hoop and got to the foul line.  The Cougars continued their good team foul shooting going 9 for 10 from the charity stripe.  The finally put some distance between them and a tired Mustang team.  After three, the Cougars led 34-24.

Fallston had their best offensive quarter in the final 8 minutes.  They passed the ball quicker, they pushed it up the court on the rebound and they attacked the basket.  The Cougars wanted win #12 and were not to be denied.  Final score 50-34 Cougars!

Having another great game was Rachael Holehouse who finished the night with a whopping 20 points.  Rachael also led the team with 5 steals to go along with her 2 assists and 2 rebounds.  Terrific job Rachael.

Monica Fischer who always seems to have a tremendous game against the Mustangs did not disappoint us tonight.  Monica finished with 10 big points and had 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 rebound.

Jess Harlee was dominating on the boards tonight with 13 rebounds to go along with her team leading 6 assists.  Jess finished the night with 8 points, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Lindsay Garnett was strong on defense with 2 blocked shots and 3 defensive rebounds.  Lindsay also added 4 points on the offensive end.  Good job Lindsay.

Amanda Mathis had some quality minutes and played great defense without giving up any fouls.  For the second game in a row, Amanda had more points than fouls and finished the night with 3 points and 1 rebound.  Caroline Shotto also contributed 3 points and had 3 offensive rebounds and 1 steal.  Kelly Mattingly took 1 shot and it was good for 2 while  McKenzie Hannahs chipped in with 2 rebounds.

The Cougars next game will be at Bel Air on Tuesday night at 6:45 pm.  Help Fallston keep the streak alive and come out and root for your team.

Cougar Cubs are back! Get a big win vs the Mustangs, 34-24.

Fallston's JV came away with a huge victory over C Milton Wright, never trailing, they controlled the game from start to finish and polished off the Mustangs 34-24.

The Cougars wanted this win in a big way.  They came out strong in the first quarter, dominating the Mustangs 8-2.

Fallston continued in their offensive mode, scoring a big 11 points in the second quarter and led by 8 going into the break.  Halftime score: Cougars 19-Mustangs 11.

The Cougars decided to play a little D in the 3rd quarter, stifling the Mustangs to just 4 points.  Fallston continued to control this game, 27-15.

The final 8 minutes, Fallston continued to maintain their lead, trading baskets without allowing the Mustangs to gain any real momentum.  The JV Cougars win their second game of 2009 with a final score of 34-24.

Emily Nosek and Jenna Weyant share top billing tonight.  Both girls scored 9 points with Jenna grabbing a team high 11 rebounds and 2 steals while Emily had 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

The Cougar's defense made the difference tonight.

Fallston beats No. 1 team from Delaware, St. Mark's, 36-25

SM8
Scoring under pressure is not easy!

Fallston, coming into this game with its unbeaten streak on the line, used their great defense to hold the best team in Delaware to under 30 points. This is the first time Fallston has ever beaten St. Mark's, and it took some clutch free throws in the fourth quarter to put this game out of reach.

Everyone in the gym knew that this would be a defensive struggle when after 4 minutes Fallston led 2-0. The next 4 minutes both teams continued to feel each other out, and the quarter ended with the Cougars clinging to a 6-5 lead.

The Cougars turned up the pressure full court, forcing St. Mark's to use up precious seconds just getting it over half court. In Delaware, teams do not use a 30 second clock and St. Mark's could not adjust their game plan to the time limitation. When they attempted to run their sets with patience, they turned the ball over with a shot clock violation. When they tried to hurry their play execution, their passing faltered and resulted in a turn over. Fallston continued to move their feet on defense and used very good passing to find the open Cougar on offense. St. Mark's to their credit, boxed out tremendously on defense only allowing Fallston 3 offensive boards all game. The Cougars went to the break with a 16-9 lead.

Fallston continued to pull away in the 3rd quarter, but nothing was easy. Every basket was earned and the Cougars not only had to play this game with a lot of hustle, but also a lot of smarts. Fallston stayed composed. They did not foul, they did not go for the big steals, they showed respect for a team that they had never beaten and it all paid off. The Cougars outscored St. Mark's 10-4 in the 3rd quarter and they were now leading 26-13.

The final 8 minutes seemed to last an eternity. St. Mark's back was against the wall. They began to play more aggressively, fouling the Cougars and putting them into the one and one. Fallston did not flinch, they went 10 for 10 from the charity stripe as a team tonight. They used a time out to regroup and coasted into the final buzzer, 36-25.

With a score of just 36 points and 9 people scoring this was a definite team win. Fallston took care of business and added another notch in the win column to continue this very good start of 2009.

Rachael Holehouse continues her hot streak and finished the night again as the top scorer for Fallston with 9 points. And to prove she is not just a scoring machine, she also had 4 assists and 2 steals.

Jess Harlee was close behind with 8 points and continues to dominate the boards with 11 rebounds. Jess also kept an eye open for her teammates with 3 assists.

Kelly Mattingly had a strong performance tonight and finished with 5 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound while Monica Fischer had 4 points all from the free throw line, where she was perfect, and had 2 assists and 2 rebounds.

Caroline Shotto, Amanda Mathis, McKenzie Hannahs, Lindsay Garnett and Alyssa March all had 2 pionts. In addition to their points, Caroline had 1 board and 1 steal and Amanda and McKenzie both had 4 rebounds. Lindsay also contributed with 1 blocked shot and 1 steal while Alyssa had 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.

Great job Ladies!

The Cougars next game will be on Thursday at home against their cross town rivals C Milton Wright. Team records do not matter in this emotionally charged game. And handling the ball with someone breathing down your neck is not easy either.

Monday, January 12
JV Cougars are stopped by St. Marks, 16-35.

The Cougars had a tough night against a very well disciplined St. Mark's team.  The Cougars could not buy a basket, they could not use their speed against a very quick opponent and St. Marks made all their outside shots.  This will spell a loss for any team, but Fallston continued to play hard until the final whistle and never gave up.

The Cougars knew it would be rough when after 8 minutes they were trailing by 7 and had not even scored a point.  The second quarter improved with Fallston looking like they were getting warmed up.  The Cougars outscored St. Mark's 7-6 and went to halftime trailing 7-13.

The only thing the break did for the Cougars was to cool them down.  Their shooting woes continued, and they only scored 3 points in the next 8 minutes.  St. Mark's, in contrast, was on fire, scoring 12.  The whistle sounded at the end of three with Fallston behind 10-25.

The final quarter had the Cougars on a treadmill, running hard and going no where.  They continued to work and hustle, but could not close the gap.  Fallston loses to a very good St. Mark's 16-35.

Emily Nosek finished the night with 6 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 block.  Jenna Weyant was close on her heels with 5 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal.

Laura Slemp had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal while Jenna Cosentino had 2 points tonight.

Brianna Worthington contributed with 1 point and 2 steals and Christina Thompson led the team with 5 rebounds.  Devin Brady had 3 boards and 2 steals and Marissa Curran grabbed 4 rebounds and blocked 2 shots.  Tori Wagner had 1 steal and 1 rebound, Nicole Hanzigiannis had 1 steal and Vicky Katsaros had 1 rebound.

The Cougars hope to rebound on Thursday against their Bel Air rival, C M Wright.  The game will be in the Cougar den at 5:15pm.  Come out and cheer your team to a victory.

Pre game talk with faithful fans in background

Lindsay says no way are you coming in here!

Fallston went into hostile territory, playing before a huge student crowd, and silenced them immediately as they took control from the opening tip off.

The Joppatowne game was misleading, in that the score looked like a blow out, when in fact it was a very close game. This game against North Harford, with the almost identical score, was anything but close. The Cougars came out in the first quarter and blew North Harford away. Fallston used their superb quickness and totally dominated every aspect of the game. The Hawks did not know what or who had entered their gym. The Cougars were covering so much floor that the Hawks must have felt like they were playing 5 against 6. Their fans must have wished it was halftime when the horn sounded at the end of one with the Cougars in total control, 21-4.

Fallston's fun had just begun. The Cougars had just been toying with the Hawks in the first quarter, like a cat toys with a bird before it goes in for the kill. Fallston out hustled and out played the Hawks in every category. If North Harford got it over the half court which was an accomplishment to begin with, Fallston never allowed them an open look at the basket and limited them to just one attempt. The Cougars continuously substituted in the second quarter with no let down and went into intermission leading 39-9.

The Cougars game out licking their chops in the second half and went for the jugular-not allowing the Hawks to score until 6 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Fallston continued to attack the Hawks on offense with their excellent ball movement and unselfish play. Their quick passing found the open player for the easy shot. Fallston was purring contentedly with a 54-14 lead at the end of three.

North Harford made a small run in the final quarter, only to make it look more like a good beating and less like a whipping. In their second game of 2009, Fallston chews up North Harford, 62-39.

It was another team effort tonight with all 15 players getting a chance to share in this meal of Hawk meat. 12 players scored in tonight's game with everyone contributing in some way.

Rachael Holehouse led all scorers with 12 and had an amazing 5 steals and 5 assists.

Also scoring in double figures were Jess Harlee and Alyssa March. Jess finished the night with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists, while Alyssa had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

While the guards were stealing the ball, the forwards were getting down on the block. 2 other forwards, Lindsay Garnett and Amanda Mathis had very good nights. Lindsay scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot. Amanda, who normally has more fouls than points, came up big tonight with 5 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Caroline Shotto and McKenzie Hannahs both finished the night with 4 points. Caroline had 3 huge assists while McKenzie had 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist and was PERFECT from the free throw line!

The guard trio of Kelly Mattingly, Kelly Smith and Monica Fischer joined the forward duo of Ashley Olhausen and Jenny Jones in scoring 2 points. Smith had 1 rebound while Mattingly had 3 assists. Monica was everywhere tonight grabbing 3 steals, 1 rebound and dishing 1 assist while Ashley was in position and came down with 3 boards. Shannon Propst finished the night with 1 steal, 1 assist and 1 drawn charge while Renee Badger had 1 rebound and Erin Nosek had 1 steal.

Great Game Ladies! Another terrific team effort.

Fallston's next game will be on Monday at home in the Cougar den. They will be pitted against the number 1 team from Delaware, St. Marks. The Cougars have never beaten this well disciplined team. Come out and make some noise for your Fallston Cougars!

Also, under the Links section of this web site you will find a listing for Howard Rau's pictures that he took from the game on Tuesday against Joppatowne. Check out these professionally done prints-they are fantastic.

And you thought you saw an opening-The Cougars CONVERGE!

Thursday, January 8
JV Lady Cougars fall to North Harford 24-32.

In their second game back after the long Holiday lay over, the Fallston Cougars just seemed to run out of steam in the final quarter.  But, the Cougars were also hampered by some very questionable calls that would end any hope of a come back after giving up the lead in the fourth quarter.

This game started off slow and sloppy with neither team able to score.  After 8 minutes of play only 7 points were scored and Fallston was down 2-5.

Fallston was saving it all for the second quarter when they went on a scoring rampage.  Not only did they generate some offense these 8 minutes, but the Cougar defense was stellar.  Fallston held the Hawks to just 2 points while scoring 13.  The Cougars went into the intermission ahead 15-7.

Fallston could not carry over their success from the second quarter into the third.   They had cooled considerably during the break and could only muster 3 points in the next 8 minutes.  At the end of three, the Cougars clung to a 18-15 lead.

Fallston continued to struggle on offense in the final quarter, taking some great shots that just would not fall.  The Cougar defense had fouls called for just breathing too hard on the Hawks.  The Hawks seemed to go to the line on every other possession while the Cougars only had 6 attempts all game.  With the deck stacked against them and their shots not falling the Cougars succumbed to the Hawks 24-32.

Emily Nosek led all Cougars with 9 points and 4 steals to go along with her 2 rebounds.

Devin Brady finished the night with 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal.  Marrissa Curran led the team in blocks with 4 and also contributed 4 points, 5 rebounds abd 2 steals.

Christina Thompson, Nicole Hanzigiannis and Jenna Weyant all had 2 points.  Additionally, Jenna led the team in rebounds with 10 and had 2 steals while Christina added 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

Laura Slemp added 5 rebounds and 2 steals while Brianna Worthington had 1 steal and 1 rebound and Tori Wagner had 1 board.

Great effort Ladies!

The Cougars will return to friendly territory on Monday night against St. Marks.

Fallston Cougars=Team Play

In a huge UCBAC conference game, Fallston puts together four strong quarters and runs away with a victory in the second half, downing Joppatowne, 59-37.

This game was a lot closer than the final score indicates with Joppatowne coming ready to play. In the first quarter, the Cougars jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but then the Mariners came storming back and actually led 8-10. Fallston did not want to be shown up at home and they quickly scored the next two baskets, and the first 8 minutes were in the book, with the Cougars leading 14-10.

The Cougars were playing aggressive, going for the steals and hustling both on offense and defense, but they almost seemed to be running in place. After basically trading baskets in the second quarter, the Cougars held on to a 3 point advantage and went into halftime with a score of 26-23.

After making some halftime adjustments on defense, Fallston surged to a 38-25 lead. But, with 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, the Cougars got caught up in the Mariners style of play-the run and gun. After a quick time out to settle the pace, Fallston closed out the quarter with a 41-31 lead.

The final quarter belonged to the Cougars. Fallston continued to hustle and work just as hard in the fourth quarter as they did in the first. They outscored the tired Mariners, 18-6 in the final 8 minutes to get their first win in 2009. The final score read 59-37.

Having an all around OUTSTANDING game was freshman Rachael Holehouse. She was everywhere on the court and always looking to score. Rachael finished the night with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. Way to go Rachael!

Caroline Shotto found success tonight in a huge way, scoring 15 big points!  Caroline had a great night from the charity stripe going 5 for 6. Shotto also had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

Jess Harlee found a way to score tonight despite having a tough first half. Jess still managed to end the night with 13 points, thanks to some excellent free throw shooting as well, going 5 for 6 from the line.  Jess dominated the boards pulling down 16 rebounds to go along with her 7 assists and 4 steals.

Monica Fischer was MIGHTY tonight. Monica had a fabulous night, leading the team with 5 steals. She scored on some tough layups that should have been AND ONES! Fish finished the night with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

Lindsay Garnett was fighting hard in the paint pulling down 3 rebounds and scoring 2 points. Alyssa March scored 1 point and had 1 rebound. McKenzie Hannahs made the most of her time on the court grabbing 2 rebounds and 4 steals and dishing 1 assist. Amanda Mathis was a beast tonight grabbing one board while picking up 3 quick fouls and Kelly Mattingly had 1 rebound.

This was a great team win. The Fallston Cougars played their roles perfectly with each member doing their part in this victory. The Cougars also had a tremendous night at the line going 14 for 19, or 74% as a team. Each win is so important in the UCBAC! This win tonight could decide who will play in the UCBAC championship at the end of February. Great job Ladies!

The Cougars will travel to hostile territory on Thursday to play North Harford at 6:45pm. Come out and support your team! Thanks for all the wonderful fans that were in the stands tonight!

Monica beats her girl but runs into traffic.

Tuesday, January 6
JV Lady Cougars down the Mariners 46-32.

The Lady Cougar Cubs put together four consistent quarters of good basketball to notch their first victory in 2009.  They scored 12 points in each of the first three quarters and 10 in the final quarter to win by 14.  The final score was 46-32.

Fallston played smart basketball, not falling into picking up the easy fouls, but waiting for the rebounds on the Mariners missed shots.  They passed the ball well and got back quickly on defense.

Leading the way in scoring tonight was Brianna Worthington with 9 points, 2 steals and 1 rebound.  Following close on her heels were Jenna Weyant and Marissa Curran with 8 apiece.  Jenna also had 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 blocked shot and 1 assist.  While Marrisa led the team in rebounds with 7 and also had 1 blocked shot, 1 steal and 1 assist.  Nice job Ladies.

Devin Brady and Emily Nosek both contributed with 6 points with Devin grabbing 2 boards, 2 steals and blocking 1 shot.  Emily had 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.  Larua Slemp led the team in steals with 6 and also chipped in 3 points and 2 rebounds.  Great hustle Cougars.

Taylor Duck, Tori Wagner and Jordan Wagner each had 2 points.  Taylor also had 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 assist with Tori having 3 steals and 1 rebound.  Christina Thompson had 1 rebound.  Way to go Girls.

The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to North Harford for a 5:15 pm game.

Cougars win the North Carroll Tournament

Saturday, December 27
Fallston wins the North Carroll Holiday Hoops for the 3rd year in a row!

NCB2
Rachael's defense was super!

The Cougars had to play tough tonight to pull out this victory against the very formidable North Carroll Panthers.  But, in the end, Fallston prevailed 47-36.

For the fourth game in the row, the Cougars started with a different line up.  This time it was necessary because Monica Fischer was out with the flu.  Fallston missed its senior court leader, but everyone stepped up their games and worked hard.

The Panthers started off scoring the first 4 points, but the Cougars game clawing back and led 7-4.  The black Cats then sunk the next two baskets while Fallston could only manage a foul shot.  At the end of the first eight minutes, it was all tied at 8.

The Cougars picked up momentum in the next quarter.  They got some nice looks at the basket and played very serious defense.  At the half way mark, Fallston was ahead 24-16.

Normally, the third quarter belongs to Fallston, but the Cougars came out super flat.  They could not buy a basket, nor get a offensive rebound-one and done was the name of the game for Fallston.  The Cougars could only muster four points in eight minutes, thankfully their defense did not take a hiatus.  Fallston's fierce defense held the Panthers to just 8 points again this quarter.   The Cougars clung to a 28-24 lead.

The final eight minutes were passionate, with neither team wanting to lose.  With three underclassmen on the court the final 3 minutes, Fallston surged ahead and was leading 40-31.  Both teams traded baskets, but Fallston's excellent rebounding when it really counted clinched the victory.  In a battle of the big Cats, the Cougars came out on top 47-36.

Jess Harlee played another outstanding game tonight on both ends of the floor, shutting down a premier North Carroll forward, Caitlin Bach, while working hard on the offensive end to get open.  Jess finished the night with 20 points and 20 rebounds to go along with her 5 steals, 5 blocked shots and 4 assists.   Her terrific two game performance earned her MVP of the tournament for the third year in a row.  Great job Jess!

Freshman sensation, Rachael Holehouse, looked like an old pro on the hardwood tonight.  She was assigned the task of guarding the Panther's formidable guard, Cinthia Ruiz, and running the plays on offense for Fallston.  This was no problem for Rachael.  Not only did she practically shut down Ruiz, but Rachael scored 8 points, had 4 rebounds and 2 assists.  Her fantastic two day performance garnered her a spot on the All-Tournament team. Way to step up your game Rachael!

Rachael will need to move over a little, because now there is another freshman, Alyssa March, wanting to generate some attention.  There is plenty of limelight to share, and Alyssa just elevated her game to the next level tonight!  Alyssa played fierce scoring 8 points, grabbing 6 boards and 1 steal.  In a wild scramble for the ball late in the fourth quarter, Alyssa snatched the ball out of the air and made the basket while getting fouled.  This not only made the game nearly unreachable for the Panthers, but took the life right out of them.  Way to bring intensity back to your game Alyssa!

Kelly Mattingly played like a seasoned veteran scoring 5 points, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing 1 assist.  Her defense was superb.

Three other Cougars scored 2 points: Caroline Shotto, McKenzie Hannahs and Lindsay Garnett.   Lindsay had an aggressive game pulling down 2 rebounds and blocking one shot while McKenzie had 1 board.  Caroline had 1 steal and was working super hard on defense. Amanda Mathis contributed with 3 rebounds and Shannon Propst had 1 rebound and 1 steal.

At 8-0, this is one of Fallston's best starts ever.  Great job ladies!

The Cougars next game will be against Joppatowne at home on January 6th.  Joppatowne has a very strong team with two scoring machines in Thorton and Jones.  The Mariners up tempo game will be Fallston's first real test for the UCBAC Chesapeake title.  Come out and support your Cougars!  This should be an exciting game!

Cougars demolish the Blazers and head for the Championship Game tomorrow!

nca4
Man to man defense at its best.

In a score that only will look close in the paper, Fallston took it to the NDP Blazers and ran away with the game, before finishing them off 49-43.

Their press was super effective in the first quarter. With steals coming on almost every possession.  The Cougars were having some difficulty getting their shot to drop, but played super defense, holding NDP scoreless for six and a half minutes.  At the end of one, Fallston led 14-2.

During the second period, the big Cats got a little lazy with their feet and allowed some back door cuts and some easy shots.  After they regrouped, they shut down the Blazers and started to score.  They went back to the locker room with a comfortable 21-12 lead.

Fallston came out of intermission on fire.  They changed up their press which confounded NDP even further.   They controlled the boards and got some sweet put backs.  They surged ahead, 39-22 after three quarters of play.

NDP played the role of the mouse in the final quarter, with the Big Cats of Fallston just toying with them.   With everyone getting some minutes, Fallston came away with a nice victory, 49-43.

Jess Harlee had an outstanding game tonight controlling the pace of the game and the boards.  After missing her first two free throws, she finished the night 14 for 16 from the charity stripe and scored her highest number of points ever in a high school game with 30.  She also had another high school career high of 23 rebounds.  With 9 steals and 3 assists she must have made NDP feel like there were two of her on the court.  Great Game Jess!

Rachael Holehouse returns from her sabbatical to Nebraska (where her sister, Roberta Holehouse, won her second NCAA volleyball championship with Penn State to end her career as the number one libero in the nation!) and Fallston was ecstatic to have her back.  Rachael finished the night with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals and had a very consistant game playing point.

Monica Fischer had a rough night shooting, but finally found the hole and ended up with 4 points.  Her defense was outstanding, and her steady play on both ends of the court was instrumental in the Cougar win.  Monica's final tally was 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists  to go along with her baskets.

McKenzie Hannahs again had some great minutes on the court scoring 3 points, grabbing 1 rebound and 1 steal.

Caroline Shotto, Amanda Mathis, and Lindsay Garnett all scored a bucket.  Amanda was tough on the defensive boards with 4, while Lindsay aggressively pulled down 3 rebounds.  Caroline had 1 steal.  Ashley Olhausen and Shannon Propst both had one rebound.

Great job Ladies!   Tomorrow, Saturday, Fallston will play in the championship game against the winner of the North Carroll/Hereford match up.  It will probably be North Carroll.  Game time is at 7:30pm.  Come out and support your exciting Lady Cougars!

The Cougars overpower the Huskies, 65-44.

pmb1
Fallston not only likes orange but red too!

Due to scheduling conflicts with Patterson Mill, Fallston had the unenviable task of playing the Huskies two times in less than two weeks.  The last time the Cougars met the Huskies they dominated them 57-19.  This time Patterson Mill was better prepared and their outside shots were falling.  The game was closer and the Cougars had to play harder, but in the end, the results were the same.   Fallston prevailed 65-44.

Patterson Mill got on the scoreboard first and actually held the lead for almost 4 minutes until Fallston tied it up at 5 with 4:38 left in the first quarter.  From there the Cougars trapped and pressured the ball and surged ahead to finish the quarter 14-6.

The Cougars turned into hot cats shooting the lights out in the second quarter.  They were knocking them down from either side and the Huskies did not know who to guard.  At the half, Fallston cruised into the locker room ahead 36-13.

In the third quarter the Cougars came out of the intermission sluggish.  Their defense was sloppy and they allowed too many easy back door cuts.  After a time out, they were able to regroup and shut down Patterson Mill.  After three. the Cougars were in control 49-25.

The last eight minutes started precariously for Fallston.  The Cats were playing sloppy.  Turnovers and lack of rebounds were a definite problem.  After the time out, the Cougars reorganized and finished the game strong with a final score of 65-44.

Caroline Shotto was SIZZLING tonight.  The hilight reel will feature Caroline scoring 15 points in the first half alone, and adding 10 more in the second, to finish the night with 25!  She was really in a groove.  Caroline also had 2 steals, 2 assists and 1 rebound.  Great job Caroline!

Jess Harlee was 2 assists away from a QUADRUPLE DOUBLE!   For the first time as a Cougar, Jess had a triple double with 18 points, 16 rebounds, 10 steals and finished the night with 8 assists.  Her presence on the court continues to be a stablizing factor.

Mighty Monica Fischer had another terrific night, scoring 8, grabbing 2 rebounds, nabbing 2 steals and dishing 1 assist.  This athletic senior is not only an outstanding soccer and lacrosse player, but has added basketball to her resume as well.

Freshman Alyssa March is becoming a force to be reckoned with at Fallston.  Tonight, Alyssa scored 6 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and had 1 steal.  She is playing with more confidence each game and her foul shot is even beginning to look good!

McKenzie Hannahs and Jenny Jones both finished the night with 3 points.  McKenzie also contributed 5 rebounds and 1 steal.  Lindsay Garnett supplied 4 rebounds and 1 steal to go along with her 2 points.

Kelly Smith had 1 rebound and 1 assist while Amanda Mathis had 2 boards, 1 steal and 1 assist. Kelly Mattingly contributed 1 steal and Renee Badger had 1 rebound.

A very happy Holidays to all the Fallston fans.  The Cougars will be back in action on Friday, Dec 26th at 4:30pm against NDP in the North Carroll Tournament.

Jenna protects the ball.

The Cougars again came away with another victory, defeating visiting Patterson Mill 48-29.  Their record now stands at 3-1.

In a very well disciplined game, Fallston controlled the pace and boards. And even though they were short handed due to the choral performance and injuries, they still prevailed in dominating Cougar fashion.

Leading the way for the Cougar cubs was Emily Nosek with 14 points, 7 steals, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.  Excellent night Emily.

Laura Slemp again was mighty scoring 12 points, pulling down 8 rebounds, and adding 3 steals, 2 blocks and 1 assist.  Nice job Laura.

Jenna Weyant controlled the boards and the led the team with 11 rebounds, and also contributed 8 points, 5 steals, 2 blocked shots and 1 assist.

Devin Brady was cool under pressure sinking foul shots when they counted and finished the night with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block and 1 assist.

Tori Wagner was super steady with 6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Nicole Hanzigiannis added 4 boards and 1 blocked shot while Taylor Duck had 1 rebound and 1 steal.  Brianna Worthington contributed with 2 steals and 2 rebounds.

Nice job Ladies!   Have a wonderful Holiday-see you all next year!

Fallston dominates Rising Sun, 55-30.

Erin's perfect form!

The Cougars are five games into the season and are a perfect, 5-0.

Fallston's stifling press was too much for the Tigers to tame and the Cougars jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter. But, Rising Sun crept back into the game when the Cougars stalled at 10. With the score at 10-5, the mighty Fallston went on a tear and blew out the docile Tigers, and the quarter ended with the Cougars ahead 19-5.

But, then with three minutes into the second quarter another drought was in the making. The Cougars had scored just 1 point, but still clung to a lead with a score of 20-14. Fallston continued to shoot and was rewarded. Some shots finally made it through the cylinder and the Cougars went to intermission with a 28-16 lead.

The break did some good! The Cougars came out on fire. Their shots were finally falling. They continued to steal the ball by jumping into passing lanes. They looked energized and ready to play some ball. After 24 minutes of play the Cougars were back to being dominating. They had increased the lead to 44-21.

Fallston continued to look in control and was able to make some subsitutions without giving up any ground. In fact, the lead was stretched to 25 with everyone getting some quality minutes. Fallston took a lot of shots tonight-61 team shots- but scored their second highest amount of points, 55. Which only proves, you have to shoot the ball to score.

Congratulations Cougars on a well deserved 55-30 team victory.

Junior Jess Harlee played in control but still aggressive and led the team with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals, 4 blocked shots and 3 assists.

Junior Caroline Shotto played a heady game and scored 9 points. She also had jumping into the passing lane down to an art and grabbed 6 steals. She finished the night with 1 rebound and 1 assist.

Sophomore Kelly Mattingly was hot tonight, scoring 7 with a well timed three in the second quarter. She also had 2 steals. Keep on shooting Kelly!

Senior Monica Fischer was pacing herself tonight. She was just waiting until the 3rd quarter to put her first shot up. When she finally did-it was good for 2!  She finished the night with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists all the while being hampered with early fouls.

Alyssa March and Kelly Smith both scored 4. Alyssa was strong on the boards with 9 and 1 assist. Kelly had 1 steal.

Renee Badger had a nice look at the basket and scored a three. Shannon Propst, Lindsay Garnett and Jenny Jones all finished the night with 2. Shannon had 3 steals, Lindsay had 4 steals and 1 blocked shot and Jenny grabbed 1 rebound. Best buds, Amanda Mathis and McKenzie Hannahs also contributed with Amanda having 2 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot and Kenz having 1 steal and 1 rebound.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow at home playing Patterson Mill for the second time this season.

Jenny and Renee playing good defense!

Wednesday, December 17
JV Cougars tame the Tigers, 37-10.

The JV Cougars were idle for over a week, but they looked hungry! They were happy to be back in action and ready to devour the Tigers.

Fallston came out strong in the first quarter, stealing the ball and playing great defense. They led after 8 minutes holding their opponents scoreless at 9-0.

In the second quarter, their offense began to click, scoring 14 points and stifling the Tigers to just 2. The Cougar Cubs led 23-2.

After the intermission, Fallston's defense slipped slightly, allowing Rising Sun to score 6, but they continued with the lead by scoring 8. The Cougars finished three quarters, still leading by 31-8.

The fourth quarter saw more dominating defense with the Cougars holding strong and only allowing the Tigers to score 2 more. Final score was 37-10.

Leading Fallston was freshman Emily Nosek with 11 points, 4 steals, 4 rebounds and 1 blocked shot. Great job Emily.

Laura Slemp was not to be outdone. She scored 8 points and led the team in rebounds with 9 and had 2 blocked shots. Way to play big, Laura!

Brianna Worthington played a very aggressive game and came away with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 1 steal. Nice playing Bri!

Devin Brady and Tori Wagner both scored 4. Devin had 3 steals, 1 rebound and 1 blocked shot while Tori had 3 boards and 2 steals. Great hustle girls.

Jenna Weyant and Jordan Wagner both tallied 2 with Jenna grabbing 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. Jordan had 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Terrific team effort ladies!

Nicole Hanzigiannis had 1 point, 2 rebounds and 1 steal and Jenna Cosentino had 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist. Excellent work girls!

The Cougars will be at home the first time this season for a 5:15 game against Patterson Mill tomorrow. Come out and support your Cats!

Fallston pulls away from Milford Mill in the final quarter, 36-26.

bb19
Lindsay shoots and Amanda blocks out.

It took four quarters, but the Cougars finally pulled away from Milford Mill and beat them by 10 in the last quarter. Up until then, it could have been anyones game.

Fallston looked strong in the first quarter, using their trap and good defensive pressure the Cougars looked to be in control. But, when Milford Mill made a 3 late in the quarter, the score became a lot closer at 11-9.

In the next quarter, Fallston was having difficulty getting the ball to go through the hoop. They could only score 7 points in 8 minutes. Fortunately for the Cougars, Milford Mill only scored 6 points and Fallston's lead actually increased going into intermission 18-15.

After the break, Fallston looked like they wanted to increase the tempo of the game. Their offense was flat, so they were hoping they could imitate the Baltimore Ravens and score off their defense. It was not as successful as they hoped, and Milford Mill made a three with not a second to spare. Fallston was still on top, but barely, with the score at 24-22 .

The Cougars knew they needed to notch up the intensity for the final 8 minutes. They came out aggressive and got some steals, and they played great half court man to man defense. They outscored Milford Mill 12-4 in the last quarter for a final of 36-26.

Junior, Jess Harlee was dominating on the boards with 18!  She played an all around excellent game with 12 points, 5 steals, 3 blocked shots and 3 assists.

Freshman sensation, Rachael Holehouse, was again steady at point, working hard all game to bring the ball up with pressure. She tallied 7 points, 3 assists and 1 rebound. Her three late in the fourth quarter provided some breathing room for the Cougars and their fans.

McKenzie Hannahs and Monica Fischer both had 4 points. McKenzie was terrific boxing out down low and also contributed with 1 assist and 1 rebound. Eventhough Monica could not get her shot to fall today, she made her defense her asset for the game. The Cougars destroy the Overlea Falcons 54-25

Fallston playing great defense.

The Lady Cougars played their first home game of the season and game away with a huge win.  Fallston was slow at getting out of the gate, but poured it on in the third quarter to walk away with their third victory of the very young season.

In the first eight minutes, Fallston was dominating Overlea, but the score did not reflect it.  Monica Fischer opened up the cylinder with two beautiful outside jumpers, but then the Cougars seemed to stall.  They out hustled the Falcons and stole the ball or forced a bad pass, but could not seem to get their shots to fall.  And they were not getting second attempts.  After 8 minutes, the Cougars were ahead, but it seemed as if they exerted a tremendous amount of energy for the score to be just 10-2.

The second period, Fallston continued to play very effective defense, but their offense was just not running smoothly.  The Cougars were struggling with their outside jumper and were missing their free throws.  The rim was just not kind.  Finally, with just three minutes left in the half the Cougars came alive. The Lady Cats began to score and doubled their lead before intermission to 22-6.

The third quarter belonged to Fallston.  Their relentless pressure had worn down Overlea.  Fallston attacked and found success.  They started to make their outside jumpers which in turn opened up the middle.  They found weaknesses under the basket on the in-bounds plays and capitalized.  They continued to play very quick basketball and were rewarded with another doubling of the lead with the score at 43-13.

The final eight minutes provided a great opportunity to have everyone get some minutes.  The Cougars held their lead and finished strong with a 54-25 victory.

Jess Harlee led the Cougars in scoring tonight with 12 points even though it felt like a struggle.  She also had 4 steals, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 charge drawn.  Way to work hard and persevere Jess.

Caroline Shotto also started off cold tonight, but continued to shoot and came on strong and scored 10 points.  Caroline also had 1 rebound and 1 assist.  Nice job looking for your shot.

Monica Fischer was totally on tonight, both on offense and defense.  Her pressure on the ball caused numerous turnovers.  And she got the Cougars on the scoreboard early scoring 6 of her 7 points in the first half.  Mighty Monica had 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Smiling Amanda Mathis comes off the bench and scores 5 big points and grabs 1 rebound for the Cougars. Way to go Amanda!!

Kelly Smith, Kelly Mattingly, McKenzie Hannahs and Rachael Holehouse all chip in 4 points for the Cougars . Smith also had 4 rebounds and 1 assist while McKenzie had 1 steal.  The speedy youngster, Rachael, had 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.

Renee Badger hit the only 3 of the game and Alyssa March led the team with rebounds with 6 and had 2 assists and 1 point.

Shannon Propst used her time on the court efficiently nabbing 3 steals and 1 rebound while dishing out a team high of 3 assists.  Lindsay Garnett was working hard on the boards and grabbed 4 and had 2 steals. Erin Nosek also contributed 1 assist while Ashley Olhausen had 2 rebounds.

Fallston is in action again this Saturday at Western High School at 2pm vs Milford Mill.  This game should be very fast paced and exciting to watch.  Come out and support your Lady Cougars.  Warning-Admission is a hefty $8 for this event!  Hit the ATM before coming to the game.

The Cougars gobble up the Pandas of Padua Academy 42-29.

Monica soars on this lay up

Fallston traveled to Wilmington Delaware and made the bus ride worthwhile by downing Padua Academy on their homecourt and playing by their rules. Apparently, private schools in Delaware play without a shot clock, so this game took on a different twist. But, Fallston got out to an early 11-4 lead and Padua's game plan actually worked in the Cougar's favor. Padua spread offense and holding the ball, slowed down the game and made it low scoring, but was ineffective once they were behind.

The Cougars press worked well. Fallston converted Padua's turnovers into points and were able to be patient while playing offense and look for the open shot. The Cougars led after 8 minutes 17-11.

Fallston increased their lead going into halftime by playing aggressive on offense and working hard on defense and not allowing a second shot. The Cougars went back into the locker room ahead, 25-16.

Coming out of the intermission, both teams were finding it difficult to score and Padua continued to slow the game down. The Cougars finally turned up the heat on defense and forced some turnovers which they converted to points. Fallston surged ahead 34-21.

Padua did not go down without a fight in the fourth quarter. They became more physical, but Fallston hung tough and did not back down. The Cougars chalked up their second win of the young season with a 42-29 final score.

Jess Harlee had a great shooting night-perfect from the floor and line-going 7 for 7 from the charity stripe. She finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists.

Monica Fischer was everywhere tonight. On offense she was a scoring machine with 11 points. This dynamo grabbed 4 rebounds and 3 steals and had 3 assists. Just a great hustle effort tonight for Monica!

McKenzie Hannahs turned on the burners in the second half scoring 8 points and pulling down 3 rebounds. She was fantastic on defense, working through the picks and making it hard for Padua to get anywhere into the paint.

Freshman point guard Rachael Holehouse was steady running the offense, handling whatever pressure was thrown her way. Rachael finished the night with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Meanwhile, Caroline Shotto was an essential component early in the game with 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 rebound.

Lindsay Garnett played another strong game on defense, blocking 1 shot, grabbing 3 rebounds and scoring 2 points. Her partners down low, Alyssa March and Amanda Mathis, also had a great night on defense. Alyssa had 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots while Amanda had 1 rebound and 1 point.

The Cougars will play their first home game on Thursday at 5pm against Overlea.  The Varsity Boys game will follow at 6:30 in a varsity double header.

Sophomore Laura Slemp and teammate on defense

The Cougar Cubs traveled to Delaware and came away a bit short in this hard fought game. Somehow the Pandas of Padua maintained their five point lead at the end of the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and while the Cougars looked to be closing in on them in the final 8 minutes, they just could not break into this five point deficit.

Playing an outstanding game was Emily Nosek with 12 points, 1 rebound, 1 blocked shot and 1 steal. Jenna Weyant also had a very good game with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 1 steal. Great job ladies!

Laura Slemp led the team in rebounds and blocked shots with 7 and 4 respectively and also contributed 4 points. Way to work hard Laura.

Devin Brady, Brianna Worthington and Nickolette Hanzigiannis all chipped in 2 points with Devin adding 2 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. Brianna also tallied 3 rebounds, 1 blocked shot and 1 steal. Great hustle girls!

Taylor Duck had 2 boards while Tori Wagner had 1 rebound. Good teamwork!

The Cougar Cubs will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Overlea for a 3:30pm game.  The boys JV game will follow at 5pm.

The Fallston Cougars finally started their 2008-2009 season in an unusual Saturday afternoon game. And, it was all worth waiting for as the Cougars defeated the Huskies in their first game ever as a Varsity team.

During the second quarter, Fallston was able to extend their lead and use their bench effectively. They went into the break ahead, 41-9.

During the second half the Cougars never faltered. The entire bench was able to contribute and play an important role in this win. After three, Fallston was ahead, 57-19, and when the final horn sounded they put this one in the win column with a score of 68-25.

Fallston was led by Jess Harlee with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. Amanda Mathis had a stellar performance with 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocked shots while newcomer, Lindsay Garnett, had a strong first game at the post with 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 blocked shot.

Kelly Mattingly,Alyssa March, and Jenny Jones all had 4 points with Kelly also contributing with 2 assists. Jenny had one rebound and Alyssa, who was mighty on the boards, led the team in rebounds with 9.

This is just the first game of a very long season, but if this team continues to work hard and improve it could be a very successful season. Good luck Cougars!

Fallston will be on the road again this time traveling a little further up I-95 to Padua Academy in Wilmington Delaware on Tuesday. Directions to the game can be found on this website. These are untested directions since Fallston has never played Padua.

Just a reminder-If you are looking at the stats for the first time-any kind of turnover-bad pass, lane violation, fumbled catch or traveling-I count as traveling. So when your daughter says to you that Ms. Mary has me down for traveling 3 times.....you can remind her it could be one of four kinds of turnover and that it is just too difficult to keep track of everything in a fast paced game.

I will be interviewing each girl within the next week. Check the website roster for some interesting facts about each girl.

GO COUGARS!
