Our programs include outdoor recreational and competitive team play in the fall and spring.
All programs are focused on the recreational aspects, with fun and learning a key element. Competitive team and player development have special priorities within the scope of the FCYSL.
Beginning in the Fall of 2005, FCYSL began playing Small Sided Games, in accordance with recommendations of USYS and NMYSA.
In an effort to maintain a positive and meaningful experience for the youth of our league, the FCYSL Board of Directors has established a "Mercy Rule", to be effective with the beginning of the Fall 2009 Season.
This rule shall be effective for U09 and above age groups, and does not apply to the U05 through U08 age groups, where no goalie is used.
The intent of this rule is to encourage coaches of teams that are dominating the game to use the opportunity to create a more valuable learning experience for their players. A coach that can get his players to pull back on scoring by creative methods, such as: 1-touch, pass backs, requiring header goals only; will find that these techniques will not only allow the game to play out to the end of the allotted time, but it will also help to improve the skill levels of their players.
For complete rule details, please see the handout: FCYSL Mercy Rule-rev082009.pdf, available in the handouts section, or by clicking the link on this article.

The FCYSL Board has set the tentative date for Coaching License/Certification Courses as February 13, 2010. This will include the Youth Module I, Youth Module II and State "E" License.
Requirements for proper certification/licensing are expected to increase in the near future, and it is highly suggested that coaches attend age appropriate clinics and begin the certification/licensing process as early as possible.
Coaches working with children ages U-5 through U-7 should attend the Youth Module I, and coaches working with children ages U-8 through U-10 should attend the Youth Module II. The State "E" License is a minumum required license for all coaches who plan to take teams to tournaments, regardless of the age division. Coaches wishing to progress beyond their "E" should contact Kelly Kelso, FCYSL Director of Coaches to express their interest.
Pre-enrollment for any of these classes is required, and enrollment should be completed by January 30, 2010. Enrollment is done at the NMYSA website, under the coaches information area of the site. A link is provided on this site under "Useful Links", on the left side of the page. A minimum number of registrations is required to attend the clinics, and if the minimum is not reached the course will be canceled.
