Frederick County American LL: 2012 Season Divisions

T-Ball
The T-Ball division of Little League is for children ages 4 to 6. In this level, children are introduced to the sport of baseball. Baseballs are hit off of tees instead of being pitched. This level is for those just learning how to play the game!

Coach Pitch Baseball
The Coach Pitch Division continues the development of young players. The accuracy and consistency of having the coach pitch to players provides players with maximum opportunity for good pitches to swing at and hit. Players continue development of fundamental offensive skills of hitting and base running as well as defensive skills in all the positions. Since the emphasis is on skills development the maximum 6 inning games are not scored. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Division consists of boys and girls age ages 6 through 8. Advanced 6-year old players with at least one year of T-Ball Division experience may be signed up for Coach Pitch Division. Parents must make this election during registration. Team Managers will determine if the player has the right skill level to remain in Coach Pitch or whether he/she should be moved back to the T-Ball Division. FCALL's primary focus is to place the player in the appropriate division where he/she can best learn, develop, and compete.

Minor Baseball
Minor Baseball is the young player's first exposure to hitting against a live pitcher, using a regulation Little League hard baseball, and playing by rules similar to those they will use the remainder of the baseball experience. For those players learning to pitch the fundamentals and development of good pitching are paramount. Little League rules provide strict guidelines for pitchers to insure that young arms are not overexerted. In addition to continuing the development of individual fielding and hitting skills, Minor Baseball players begin to learn team defensive skills. Although players continue to play a variety positions, coaches begin to work with players in specific positions based on their individual strengths. Although the maximum 6 inning games are scored, winning is always placed in its proper perspective. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Minor Baseball consists of boys and girls age 8 through 10 who are not drafted into the Major Baseball division. Advanced 8-year old players with at least one year of Coach Pitch experience may be signed up for the Minor Baseball division. Parents must make this election during registration. Team managers will determine if the player has the right skill level to remain in Minor Baseball division or he/she should be moved back to the Coach Pitch division. FCALL's primary focus is to place the player in the appropriate division where he/she can best learn, develop, and compete.

Major Baseball
Major League players continuing the development of basic individual and team skills and fundamentals. Although players work a variety positions, coaches continue to work with players in specific positions based on their individual strengths and abilities. Although Major Baseball games become more competitive, winning is still always placed in its proper perspective. Players continue to use a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Major League division is comprised of boys and girls ages 10 through 12. 10 year olds not drafted into the Major Baseball division will be placed on a Minor Baseball division team.

Junior Baseball
The Junior Baseball division players move to a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. The league offers players the opportunity to continue their development and exposure to competitive baseball whether its just for the fun of playing the game or in preparation for high school level play. Junior Baseball is comprized of boys league age 13 and 14.

Senior Baseball
The Senior Baseball players continue to play on a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. The league offers players the opportunity to continue their development and exposure to competitive baseball whether its just for the fun of playing the game or in preparation for or to augment high school level play. Senior Baseball is comprized of boys league age 14 and 16. 14 year olds not drafted into the Senior Baseball division will be placed on a Junior Baseball division team.

Coach Pitch Softball
The Coach Pitch Division continues the development of young players. Minor Softball

Major Softball is comprised of girls ages 10through 12. 10 year olds not drafted into the Major Softball division will be placed on a Minor Softball division team.

Senior Softball
The Junior/Senior Softball players continue to use a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 43 feet. The league offers players the opportunity to continue their development and exposure to competitive softball whether its just for the fun of playing the game or in preparation for high school level play. Coaches work players more in specific positions based on their individual strengths and abilities. Although JR/SR Softball games are more competitive, winning and good sportsmanship are still placed in their proper perspective. Junior/Senior Division is comprised of girls ages 13 through 16.
