It's Time to Register for the 2009 Spring Season!
Dear Players, Parents, and Friends, Welcome to Babe Ruth Baseball. There are a number of important changes and events this year and I expect 2009 to be an exciting season. FCABR will sponsor the 2009 Virginia State Tournament for 15 year olds – this will be a tremendous experience for the entire FCABR family. We expect to have a strong tournament team in all age groups, and to be competitive in the District and State Tournaments. As in years past, FCABR will field its traditional Prep, National, and American League teams for 13-, 14-, and 15-year-old players. Sixteen, 17, 18, and now for the first time, 19-year-olds will play in our Senior League. Beginning with the Spring 2009 season, the several leagues that make up Babe Ruth Districts VI and VII of Northern Virginia have established a new Sunday “travel league” called the Babe Ruth Commonwealth Travel League (BRCTL). This new travel league will schedule Sunday five-inning double-header games between teams sponsored by Babe Ruth Leagues throughout Northern Virginia, as well as with teams operating under the aegis of the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League. In addition to our traditional “house league” teams mentioned above, FCABR hopes to field one or more travel league teams in each of the BRCTL age groups (13U, 14/15U, and 18U). Players for FCABR’s travel league teams will be selected based on tryouts and may (if they wish) also play on one of FCABR’s house league teams. Players wishing to try-out for one of the travel league teams should indicate their interest on the registration form. Complete information on how to register for the Spring 2009 season is available under the Mail-in Registration tab on left side of this screen. To secure your place on a team, I would strongly encourage you to register early. Late registrations will be wait-listed and participation in the 2009 season cannot be guaranteed. Over the past few years expenses have risen steadily and we have had to raise the registration fee this year to $200 – still the lowest per game cost in the area. However, you may be assured that it is our policy not to turn any player away for financial reasons. If this is a concern, or if you have other questions, please feel free to contact me. All communications will be kept confidential. Babe Ruth operates entirely with volunteers, and we welcome any parent who wants to contribute some small amount of their time to the continued success of our local Babe Ruth league. We always need new Board members and new coaches. I look forward to the sound of the umpire saying “Play Ball!” Until then I hope for your participation, and I’ll see you on the baseball field in the Spring! Joe StraubPresident 703-241-0882
