Monday, May 20

The FCA Flames successfully defended their 2012 State Championship on the weekend of May 10th and 11th in Sulphur, Louisiana at McMurry Field.  The Flames persevered a 5 hour rain delay in the semifinal by defeating district rival, Maurepas  in 5 innings.
The following day, the weather was a bit more cooperative!  FCA faced their old rival from State Tournaments' past--Claiborne Christian School.  The game was eerily similar to last year's title game between the 2 schools.  FCA called upon last year's starting pitcher, Ben Chauvin, to take the mound...CCS countered with the talented 6'6" right hander, Zack Osbon just as they had done a year earlier.  And like last year, Osbon, was operating on no days rest, this time having thrown 101 pitches against Elizabeth in the semifinal.
The CCS starter courageously toed the rubber in the bottom of the 1st inning and surrendered 1 run to the Flames.  He then was inserted into center field as the 2nd inning began where he remained for the rest of the game.  The lead the Flames took in the 1st inning held up throughout the contest.  Like last year, Chauvin didn't possess his most electric stuff...but like last year he did display the tenacity of a bull dog...and like last year that performances was rewarded: with another State Title and another MVP award for the Championship game!  And like last year, the "bomb squad" was not called upon...the powerful FCA lineup from top to bottom did not produce the proverbial 3 run homer like they had done so many times this season.  Instead, it was a total team effort in which the FCA runs were manufactured with timely hits and aggressive base running.  Even the score was nearly the same: the 2012 score was 7-1; this year the final was 7-2.
The one difference may have been the sterling play of the Flames' defense.  Catcher Quincy Ellis, First Baseman Titus Rogers, and Third Baseman Mason Diaz flashed the leather like big leaguers supporting their pitcher's strategy of "pitching to contact."  For a full report of the game, logon to .  The report will remain in their archives for a considerable time.
Congratulations to the FCA Flames for doing something that is difficult in the sports world: REPEATING!  To God be the Glory!!!

Frazier signs with BRCC
M.J. Frazier, FCA's talented left-handed pitcher and center fielder signed earlier this month with Baton Rouge Community College.  This took place as the Flames were embarking upon their playoff run.  To properly commemorate this achievement, the FCA family recreated the moment with a mock signing ceremony at our recent Athletic Banquet of May 14th.  Congratulations to M.J. and his parents...We can't wait to cheer on the Bears!  He will join former FCA stand outs Chris White and Ricky Smith in the fall.  While his environment will surely change, two things will remain the same...He'll always be M.J. ....and he will continue to wear black and red!!!

On a Roll

The Flames have been on a roll as of late.  After winning the Doyle Tournament with a 3-0 mark, the boys enjoyed big victories against 2-A power Dunham and the number 1 team in 3-A, E. D. White.  Both times the Flames faced staff aces!  During the Easter holidays, the Flames also won games with Episcopal, Christian Life Academy, and Northside Christian.  In fact, in back to back games FCA saw two of our finest hit for the cycle.  Tyler Randall hit for the cycle against CLA...2 days later, Ben Chauvin duplicated the feat against NCS.  Hitting for the cycle is quite see it done in back to back games is almost unprecedented!  The guys next take on E. D. White Wednesday with a return game...this time in Thibadaux!

We be Jammin'

FCA started the 2013 season  by competing in the Dunham School Jamboree.  In the first 3-inning contest, the Flames downed the Saints of West Feliciana 7 - 1.  Richard Hopkins provided the fireworks with a 2-out, 2-run homerun in the first inning. His younger brother Michael collected his first high school base hit in the game. Ben Chauvin struck out 4 and yielded only 1 run.
In the nightcap, the Flames defeated Christian Life Academy 4 - 1.  Mason Diaz drove in Ben Chauvin for the first run of the game. Later, some niffty base running by Titus Rogers  landed him on third base. The next batter, Quincy Ellis, hit a sac fly to center field scoring Rogers for the go-ahead run. Richard Hopkins finished off the Crusaders with a double scoring M.J. Frazier and Tacovi Pecot...Pecot reached on a pinch-hit single!  M.J. Frazier pitched 2 innings, facing 9 batters, striking out 6!!!
The Flames next play Thursday when they play Brusly...the host team of this coming weekend's tournament.

Rings are in!

Brandon Jenkins of Herff Jones delivered our championship rings Tuesday afternoon.  Although I tried to keep it on the down-low, word got out quickly...before I could even generate invoices for each player.  Several players actually paid for their rings that afternoon once I figured out the balance owed.  By Wednesday morning, each player was given an invoice to bring home.  Players will be given their rings upon receipt of payment.
The cost is lower than I anticipated...$146.70.  Once again, these rings retail at over $400.oo.  Brandon offered these custom rings at his cost...he made no profit.  Furthermore, no taxes were assessed on the purchase.  Many thanks for the administration's support...the school/church blessed us with a $3,800 subsidy greatly reducing our obligation!!!  We are asking that you finalize payment by Oct. 1st.  If you have any questions regarding this matter feel free to contact me.    Coach Smith

Friday, August 10
Championship Rings
Herff Jones has informed me that our rings are due to arrive in his office Thur.  Aug. 16th.  We may not receive them until the following day...or perhaps until the beginning of the following week: Aug. 20th.  With that timeline, we are going to extend the ring balance deadline to Aug. 31st.  I'll have a hard number for you soon as to what we each owe after I speak to our rep, Brandon.  Hopefully this will give you a little more breathing room.  By the way, I have seen a picture of the rings...really nice!  Our custom FC logo is atop the ring encrusted with CZ.  The top obviously is labelded STATE at the top and CHAMPIONS at the bottom.  On the side, the date is presented: 20 on the left and 12 on the right.  By the grace of God we were able to, for no extra charge, get a personalized right shank...It has the state of louisiana with our record on it.  On the other shank, there is a ball and crossed bats...NAME above and UNIFORM NUMBER below.  Very few teams get to have a ring with this much custom detail at such a low price.  This ring looks nicer than my LSU national championship ring from 1993.      Coach Smith

To GOD be the Glory!!! STATE CHAMPIONS!!!

FCA made their 5th straight trip to the LHSAA Class C State Tournament...this time in Sulphur...leaving behind venerable Bringhurst Park in Alexandria.  The new venue agreed with the Flames as they were victorious in the semi final game Friday, May 11th.  FCA got a stellar performance from Chris White on the bump.  He ran his record to 8-0 on the season and was supported by 9 Flames runs! That set the stage for a Saturday final against rival Claiborne Christian of Monroe.
FCA, having advanced to their 3rd state final in 4 years, looked to get over the hump in 2012!  Early in the game things didn't go as planned as the Crusaders scored a very costly run...a run that came at the expense of Richard Hopkins.  Richard, the FCA clean-up hitter was injured on the RBI single that led to Claiborne's lone run. With a run in, CCS loaded the bases with 2 outs before senior Chris White turned an inning-ending double play. With Hopkins out, the Flames turned to senior Brandon Butcher in the 4 hole.  He did what seniors do...stepped up!  Butcher laid down a bunt base hit that set off the Flames first scoring drive.  Late the game, Butcher also doubled adding insurance runs for FCA.
In the end, FCA locked up its first state championship by the score of 7-1.  Ben Chauvin scattered only 4 hits and struck out 6 in 7 innings...He was named the tournament's most valuable player!

Monday, May 14
Back to the State Tournament!!!
With a trip to the state tournament on the line, FCA hosted Calvin High School in the Class C State Quarter Finals on Monday, May 7th.  Ben Chauvin pitched another gem...this time tossing a no-hitter!  The game was once again shortened as the Flames put 10 runs on the board, besting Calvin 10-0.  The victory sends FCA to its 5th straight state tournament...this time in Sulphur!

Monday, May 14
Ben Chauvin returned from injury to toss a perfect game against Starks in the Regionals.  He got plenty of run support as the Flames scored 17 in a game that was shortened due to the mercy rule.  Tyler Randall and Rich Hopkins homered in the contest!

Monday, May 14
District Champs
The FCA Flames claimed a share of the district title as April concluded.  The team now shifts its focus upon the rest of class C as the playoffs begin.  The Flames will host Starks in the Regionals on April 30th!!!

Tuesday, April 17
Rained Out!
Today's game at Grand Isle has been rained out.  We will make it up Monday, April 23rd if necessary.  Our next big district contest will be Thursday at Maurepas @ 4:00pm.

Thursday, March 29
Congratulations go out from the FCA Baseball family to seniors Harry Wiggins and Trae Ray.  The duo signed national letters of intent today extending their athletic careers.  Harry will compete for Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond...He will run both cross country and track.  Trae will play basketball for the Wildcats of Louisiana College in Pineville.  Flame nation will now eagerly follow both the LIONS and WILDCATS!!!

Wednesday, March 28
The game scheduled for Thursday, March 29th against Northside Christian in Crowley has been pushed back from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.  The boys will depart campus at 2:45 as a result.  You may want to pack them a snack and give them meal money for a fast-food stop on the way home.

Tuesday, March 13
The FCA Flames played a rare Sunday game in Reserve, Louisiana, to conclude the Fatty's Tournament.  The boys won their pool for the second time in as many weeks by defeating Hanson Memorial 11-5.  M.J. Frazier turned in another good performance surrendering 2 earned runs while scattering 3 hits in 4 innings.  Chris White has proven to be a reliable source of relief finishing the last 3 innings surrendering only 1 earned run to nail down the Flame victory.
The pitching was supported by an offensive barrage led by Ben Chauvin and Richard Hopkins who both homered in the contest.  Tyler Randall also drove in a run with a sac. liner to left and Trae Steudlein continued his clutch hitting with another 2-out, 2 RBI single.  Congratulations go out to Michael Daus for lacing his first career Flame hit...a hot shot to left field!
The Flames hope to play their season HOME opener Tuesday, March 13th against French permitting!!!

Sunday, March 11

What the FCA pitching staff began in Crowley continues on in the Reserve Academy (Fatty's) Tournament this weekend. Ben Chauvin pitched lights out under the lights at Thibadaux Friday while Mason Diaz gave a strong effort yesterday morning in Reserve against 5-A Slidell. The victory Friday was the school's first over a 5-A opponent...15 hours later the Flames duplicated that feat!
While the pitching has indeed been strong, the Flame pitchers have benefited from some very timely hits. Richard Hopkins, Ben Chauvin, Mason Diaz, Trae Steudlein, and Quincy Ellis have swung hot bats of late. M.J. Frazier drove in a key insurance run late yesterday as well. One more victory and the boys will win their 2nd Pool Championship in as many weeks...Bless you boys as you compete today!

Tuesday, March 6

FCA left Crowley having won their pool in the round-robin format.  The Flames swept through Friday and Saturday undefeated having faced Class B power house Simpson, Iota, and host Crowley (3-A).  Three very solid pitching performances were handed in by M.J. Frazier, Mason Diaz, and Ben Chauvin (1-hitter).  The boys broke out the bats in support of the fine pitching scoring 21 runs over the 3 games.  FCA next plays on Tuesday, March
6th at Port Allen...direction are on the calendar!

STATE TOURNAMENT: Heart Breaker at Bringhurst
The #1 seeded FCA Flames marched into Alexandria and promptly unloaded on #5 Elizabeth in the State Semi-Final.  In the first inning, the Flames first five batters chased the starting pitcher with back to back to back to back to back hits...Including triples from lead-off man Michael Glasper and 2 hole Tyler Randall...Second Baseman Ricky Smith followed with a double to center field!!!  Ryan Gorman and Seth Dickey combined on the "bump" to hold off the Bull Dog offense.  Final Score: FCA 9 - EHS 6.
On the other side of the bracket, Hicks High defeated FCA rival Claiborne Christian setting up a Saturday show down for the Class C State Title at 3:00pm.
Unfortunately, the Flames fell behind early to Hicks in the title game giving up 7 runs in the top of the 2nd inning.  Hicks appeared to be pulling away  from FCA as the game progressed at one point enjoying a 9 run lead with a score of 10 - 1.  Refusing to give in, the Flames began to chip away...Going into the 7th inning, the score was 10 - 4.  With their backs against the wall, the Flames began an incredible rally scoring 5 runs in the 7th...3 off of the bat of Tyler Randall as his near Grand Slam plated 3 runs.  Sadly, Tyler was stranded at 3rd when the final out of the game was recorded by Hicks...Ohh so close.  The heroic come-back exemplified FCA's character and never-say-die attitude!  While the loss stung, as time passes, the boys will be proud of their achievement and look back on 2011 with fond memories.  The folks in Alex are sure to be talking about the 2011 Class C Championship game for years to come.

Wednesday, May 11
BACK 2 BRINGHURST: Flames defeat Raiders 12-2 in 5 innings!
FCA hit the road Monday, May 9th to play in a Class C Quarter Final Match-up against rival Reeves High School.  The Flames scored early and often in the contest with 1 run in the 1st inning, 4 in the 2nd, and 7 in the 4th inning.  Michael Glasper yielded only 2 runs on the day--both scored in the bottom of the 4th inning.  With the score 12-2 going into the bottom half of the 5th inning, Reeves was unable to score...the mercy rule was thus employed ending the game early.
With the victory, the Flames advance to the Class C State Tournament at Bringhurst Field in Alexandria for the 4th consecutive year!  For the first time in school history, FCA enters the tournament as the state's # 1 seed.  We will face 5 seed Elizabeth in the semi-final on Friday, May 13th at 1:00pm.  Should we advance, we will face either 2 seed Claiborne Christian or 3 seed Hicks High School Saturday at 3:00pm.
The team will depart after practice Thursday from the Tucker Complex and travel to Alexandria.  An itenerary and hotel info will be sent home soon.

Wednesday, May 4
The Flames will travel to Reeves for the State Quarter Finals.  The game is now set for Monday, May 9th @ either 3:30 or 4:00pm.  The gate price will be $6.00.  Travel plans will be announced soon...We will also post directions (Reeves is about 2  1/2 hours from B.R.).
NOTE: Sorry for the stripped down, generic appearance of our website.  We had a free
upgrade to eteamz plus when we created our new site...That upgrade lasted only a month.  With it we had our own customized  FC logo with a baseball diamond background--Cool stuff!  Unfortunately, "cool" costs.  SOooo, for now, it's back to the generic look of the free eteamz account.

Wednesday, April 13
FCA has enjoyed unprecedented media coverage this year.  The positive stories that were generated by the recent success of our basketball team continues...Channel 33's news segment was very much welcomed and the Advocate is riding this wave having produced 2 features recently--ALL BEFORE THE PLAY OFFS!!!  That's a first for our school.  Check out the  article in today's sport's page that chronicles our latest game with Brusly. archives the "prep" stories so it's not too late to read up on the Flames.

Friday, April 29

After defeating the Holden Rockets 18-11 on Monday, April 25th, the FCA Flames concluded the regular season with a 21-5 record...Good enough to hold on to the #1 seed in Class C.  Being a 1 seed, the Flames will enjoy a bye in the first round...the second round will be a home game played early next week against Plainview High or Pleasant Hill.  On that day we will honor our senior players and their families prior to the game.
As FCA marches into the play-offs, we hope to advance to the state tournament in Alexandria for a 4th consecutive year.  We will take today off and travel to Sulphur to support our girls who have already advanced to the state softball tourney!!!  Go Flames!!!
