Family Christian Academy: Welcome
The Family Christian Flames look to defend their State Championship from a year ago as a veteran team returns. FCA faces its most challenging schedule ever in 2013. The schedule includes home and away games with 2A powers Dunham and Episcopal. FCA will also face 3A powers Brusly and E.D. White with home and away contests. West Feliciana will also come to FCA in late March. Check out our schedule to view the other fine programs the Flames will compete against this season.
As FCA rolls into 2013, they look to their very talented senior class for leadership: Ben Chauvin, M.J. Frazier, J.J. Holmes, Trelyn Pitts, Tyler Randall, and Tre Steudlein have their sights set on returning to Sulphur.

The FCA Flames successfully defended their 2012 State Championship on the weekend of May 10th and 11th in Sulphur, Louisiana at McMurry Field. The Flames persevered a 5 hour rain delay in the semifinal by defeating district rival, Maurepas in 5 innings.
The following day, the weather was a bit more cooperative! FCA faced their old rival from State Tournaments' past--Claiborne Christian School. The game was eerily similar to last year's title game between the 2 schools. FCA called upon last year's starting pitcher, Ben Chauvin, to take the mound...CCS countered with the talented 6'6" right hander, Zack Osbon just as they had done a year earlier. And like last year, Osbon, was operating on no days rest, this time having thrown 101 pitches against Elizabeth in the semifinal.
The CCS starter courageously toed the rubber in the bottom of the 1st inning and surrendered 1 run to the Flames. He then was inserted into center field as the 2nd inning began where he remained for the rest of the game. The lead the Flames took in the 1st inning held up throughout the contest. Like last year, Chauvin didn't possess his most electric stuff...but like last year he did display the tenacity of a bull dog...and like last year that performances was rewarded: with another State Title and another MVP award for the Championship game! And like last year, the "bomb squad" was not called upon...the powerful FCA lineup from top to bottom did not produce the proverbial 3 run homer like they had done so many times this season. Instead, it was a total team effort in which the FCA runs were manufactured with timely hits and aggressive base running. Even the score was nearly the same: the 2012 score was 7-1; this year the final was 7-2.
The one difference may have been the sterling play of the Flames' defense. Catcher Quincy Ellis, First Baseman Titus Rogers, and Third Baseman Mason Diaz flashed the leather like big leaguers supporting their pitcher's strategy of "pitching to contact." For a full report of the game, logon to theadvocate.com/sports . The report will remain in their archives for a considerable time.
Congratulations to the FCA Flames for doing something that is difficult in the sports world: REPEATING! To God be the Glory!!!

The Flames have been on a roll as of late. After winning the Doyle Tournament with a 3-0 mark, the boys enjoyed big victories against 2-A power Dunham and the number 1 team in 3-A, E. D. White. Both times the Flames faced staff aces! During the Easter holidays, the Flames also won games with Episcopal, Christian Life Academy, and Northside Christian. In fact, in back to back games FCA saw two of our finest hit for the cycle. Tyler Randall hit for the cycle against CLA...2 days later, Ben Chauvin duplicated the feat against NCS. Hitting for the cycle is quite rare...to see it done in back to back games is almost unprecedented! The guys next take on E. D. White Wednesday with a return game...this time in Thibadaux!

Brandon Jenkins of Herff Jones delivered our championship rings Tuesday afternoon. Although I tried to keep it on the down-low, word got out quickly...before I could even generate invoices for each player. Several players actually paid for their rings that afternoon once I figured out the balance owed. By Wednesday morning, each player was given an invoice to bring home. Players will be given their rings upon receipt of payment.
The cost is lower than I anticipated...$146.70. Once again, these rings retail at over $400.oo. Brandon offered these custom rings at his cost...he made no profit. Furthermore, no taxes were assessed on the purchase. Many thanks for the administration's support...the school/church blessed us with a $3,800 subsidy greatly reducing our obligation!!! We are asking that you finalize payment by Oct. 1st. If you have any questions regarding this matter feel free to contact me. Coach Smith

Herff Jones has informed me that our rings are due to arrive in his office Thur. Aug. 16th. We may not receive them until the following day...or perhaps until the beginning of the following week: Aug. 20th. With that timeline, we are going to extend the ring balance deadline to Aug. 31st. I'll have a hard number for you soon as to what we each owe after I speak to our rep, Brandon. Hopefully this will give you a little more breathing room. By the way, I have seen a picture of the rings...really nice! Our custom FC logo is atop the ring encrusted with CZ. The top obviously is labelded STATE at the top and CHAMPIONS at the bottom. On the side, the date is presented: 20 on the left and 12 on the right. By the grace of God we were able to, for no extra charge, get a personalized right shank...It has the state of louisiana with our record on it. On the other shank, there is a ball and crossed bats...NAME above and UNIFORM NUMBER below. Very few teams get to have a ring with this much custom detail at such a low price. This ring looks nicer than my LSU national championship ring from 1993. Coach Smith

FCA made their 5th straight trip to the LHSAA Class C State Tournament...this time in Sulphur...leaving behind venerable Bringhurst Park in Alexandria. The new venue agreed with the Flames as they were victorious in the semi final game Friday, May 11th. FCA got a stellar performance from Chris White on the bump. He ran his record to 8-0 on the season and was supported by 9 Flames runs! That set the stage for a Saturday final against rival Claiborne Christian of Monroe.
FCA, having advanced to their 3rd state final in 4 years, looked to get over the hump in 2012! Early in the game things didn't go as planned as the Crusaders scored a very costly run...a run that came at the expense of Richard Hopkins. Richard, the FCA clean-up hitter was injured on the RBI single that led to Claiborne's lone run. With a run in, CCS loaded the bases with 2 outs before senior Chris White turned an inning-ending double play. With Hopkins out, the Flames turned to senior Brandon Butcher in the 4 hole. He did what seniors do...stepped up! Butcher laid down a bunt base hit that set off the Flames first scoring drive. Late the game, Butcher also doubled adding insurance runs for FCA.
In the end, FCA locked up its first state championship by the score of 7-1. Ben Chauvin scattered only 4 hits and struck out 6 in 7 innings...He was named the tournament's most valuable player!
