In the second game of the doubleheader, the Mustangs jumped out early and never trailed as they beat the Cannons 11-6. Led by the pitching of Travis Croson, Colin Cummins, Shane Buss and Tyler Johnson, the Mustangs were able to silence a strong hitting Gainesville club.

Mustangs Improve to 4 - 0
The Fauquier Mustangs improved their record in the Old Dominion Baseball League to 4 - 0 Sunday by defeating the Centreville Bulldogs in both games of the doubleheader.

Shane Buss delivered four strong innings on the mound to keep the Bulldogs in check, while the Mustangs offense fought back and erased an early deficit. Travis Croson took the mound in the fifth inning and allowed no runs to save the victory.

In the second game, the Fauquier Mustangs jumped out to an early 8 - 1 lead and never looked back. Led by the strong hitting of Tyler Johnson and Michael Wigglesworth, the Mustangs offense never sputtered. Travis Croson started the game on the mound and picked up where he left off in the first game by only allowing one run to cross the plate. Tyler Johnson and Tyler Fetherolf both gave solid pitching performances in the middle of the game. During a late game rally by the Bulldogs, Colin Cummins was called on to put out the fire. His clutch control forced the Bulldogs to swing their bats and allowed the Mustangs defense to take over and close out the game.

Game balls were awarded to Travis Croson for his pitching efforts and superb play behind the plate in the second game. Tyler Johnson was also given a game ball for his clutch hit during the second game as well as his pitching.

Mustangs Split with the Sterling Xplosion
The Fauquier Mustangs split their doubleheader with the Sterling Xplosion today to run their record to 5-1 on the season.

The first game saw the Mustangs go down 9-6 to a strong Xplosion team. Travis Croson and Shane Buss provided strong pitching for the Mustangs, but the Xplosion applied steady pressure throughout the game and were able to capitalize on a few Mustangs miscues.

Shane Buss started the second game and threw two solid innings for the Mustangs. Tyler Johnson came on in relief and kept the Xplosion close. Down 9-6 in the top of the fourth inning, the Mustangs rallied to score four and take the lead. Some fancy footwork by Dylan "Two-Step" Tinsdale helped keep the rally alive as he snuck into third. With the bases loaded and two outs, Tyler Johnson delivered a blast to right center field to clear the bases and wound up with a triple. For the second week in a row, the Mustangs turned to Colin "Clutch" Cummins to close out the game. Colin pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs, while the Mustangs added one in the top of the fifth to bring the final score to 11-9.

Shane Buss received the game ball this week for his strong work on the mound in both games and his solid fielding in the last two innings of the second game to shut down the strong Xplosion bats.

Sunday, October 1
Mustangs Take Two from the Storm
The Mustangs ran their record to 7-1 today by defeating the Manassas Storm 8-4 and 12-11.

The first game saw the Mustangs take control of the game early. Led by the outstanding defensive play of Jason Alvarez at second and Tyler Fetherolf behind the plate, the Manassas Storm were unable to put together any large innings. Shane Buss and Travis Croson delivered strong pitching performances for the Mustangs. Both pitchers combined to scatter four hits over six innings and struck out seven.

Tyler Fetherolf was awarded the game ball for the first game. Tyler's outstanding work behind the plate kept many Storm runners stranded at third base.

The second game was a see-saw affair that took extra innings to decide. After jumping out to an early lead, the Mustangs found themselves in a dog fight with a strong Manassas Storm team. The Storm stayed close all game and in the fifth inning, they appeared ready to blow the game open. After surrendering the lead, with runners on base and nobody out, the Mustangs turned to Tyler Shaffer to put out the fire. Shaffer took the mound and was able to quiet the Storm bats and keep the game within reach of the Mustangs offense. In the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs bats responded and scored two runs to tie the game. Both teams played solid defense in the sixth and no runs were scored, sending the game into extra innings.

The top of the seventh saw the Storm rally for two runs to take the lead 11-9. In the Mustangs half of the seventh, key hits by Shane Buss and Travis Croson scored one run and brought the score to 11-10.

Once again, with two outs and the game on the line, Michael Wigglesworth dug into the batters box...and once again, Wigglesworth delivered. Michael hit his second walk off double of the season to easily score Buss and Croson and secure the victory for the Mustangs.

Tyler Shaffer earned his first game ball of the season for his solid relief work on the mound.

Race Tightens in Old Dominion Baseball League
(Note: standings in the Old Dominion Baseball League are determined by overall points. If a team has played more games than another, their point total will be higher. By the end of the season, all teams will have played the same amount of games and the point totals will be more representative of their success.)

What, two weeks ago, appeared to be a two horse race in the Old Dominion Baseball League has now become a four team sprint to the finish. The Gainesville Cannons, Sterling Xplosion and Fauquier Mustangs occupy the top three spots in the league based on points while the Manassas Storm is lurking back in the pack with only four losses.

The Gainesville Cannons swept the Manassas Generals on a pair of games on Saturday and then continued their winning ways by sweeping the Herndon Hawks on Sunday. The Sterling Xplosion split their games with the Centreville Bulldogs on Sunday. The Manassas Storm did not play this weekend.

The Fauquier Mustangs had a tough weekend, dropping two games to a strong hitting Manassas Generals team 11-7 and 13-9. In both games, the Mustangs were never able to put together any big innings as the Mustang hitters struggled with the Generals off-speed pitching. The Generals were also able to capitalize with several runs on Mustangs miscues in the field.

Travis Croson, Shane Buss, Tyler Johnson and Colin Cummins all took the mound for the Mustangs and pitched well, allowing very few walks. Several Mustangs hitters, including Mark Terrel, Tyler Johnson, Tyler Fetherolf and Jason Alvarez, made good contact with the ball during the games.

Sunday, October 22
Mustangs Fall to Cannons
The Mustangs had another tough outing today, falling to the Gainesville Cannons 9-1. The Mustangs struggled at the plate and in the field, allowing several Cannon runs to score as a result of errors. Two bright spots in the field were Jason Alvarez and Brenton Doyle. Both came up with solid plays at crucial times, but it was not enough to stop the bleeding. Shane Buss and Travis Croson combined for a solid pitching effort. Both Mustangs pitchers had good control and gave up very few walks or hits. Buss also had a good day at the plate going 3 for 3 and hitting the ball sharply.

Jason Alvarez earned his first game ball of the season for his outstanding work in the field.

Old Dominion Race Heats Up
As the days continue to get cooler, the race for the lead of the ODBL continues to heat up. The Cannons, Xplosion, Storm and Mustangs are each vying for the top position. Last weekend, the Sterling Xplosion split their games with the Centreville Bulldogs to bring their record to 8-4. During this weekend's action, the Manassas Storm handed the Gainesville Cannons their fourth loss; combined with today's win over the Mustangs their record stands at 9-4. The Mustangs have dropped their last three to fall to 7-4, while the Storm continues to lurk with a record of 6-4. The Manassas Generals have also begun to make some noise, reeling off four straight wins. The Generals sit at 7-8.

Mustangs Win Number 8
The Fauquier Mustangs broke out of their slump this Sunday with a commanding win over the Centreville Bulldogs by a score of 8-3. The Mustangs gained control of this game early and never looked back, sparked by some exciting work on the basepaths.

Travis Croson started the game for the Mustangs and pitched four shutout innings. Over those four innings, Croson only allowed one walk and two hits while striking out eight. Shane Buss came on in the fifth inning to nail down the win.

The Mustangs bats showed signs of life today, with several players making solid contact. Mark Terrel drove in two runs early in the game, on a shot to the wall in centerfield. Later in that same inning, with two strikes and two outs, Tyler Shaffer blooped a single to rightfield to score Brenton Doyle from third.
Jason Alvarez and Michael Wigglesworth both provided offensive firepower when the Mustangs needed it and drove in runs.

The Mustangs defense tightened up today and never gave the Bulldogs a chance to mount any serious threat. Key outs were recorded by Doyle and Shaffer in the outfield, while Alvarez continued his dazzling play at second base. Tyler Fetherolf had another solid game behind the plate.

Mark Terrel earned his first game ball of the season for his two run triple.

Saturday, November 4
Mustangs Win Thriller at Child's Field
The Mustangs improved to 9-4 on the season this Saturday with an exciting 8-7 victory over the Manassas Storm. Travis Croson and Shane Buss combined for the win.

The early innings saw the Mustangs struggle at the plate and allowed the Storm to jump out to an early 6-1 lead. Buss entered the game in the top of the fifth and was able to silence the Storm bats.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs offense got it going. Combining a string of walks with some well timed hits, Fauquier was able to score seven and take the lead. Dylan Tinsdale started off the scoring for the Mustangs, making his way home on a Shane Buss three run double. Fauquier continued to pour it on with their exciting work on the basepaths. Many hitters, including Brenton Doyle, showed great patience at the plate and were able to work themselves deep in the count and make their way to first. These extra pitches definitely took their toll on the Storm pitchers as they struggled with their control late in the game.

The Storm fought back in the top of the sixth and was able to score one run and get the tying run to third, but in the end, they were run over by a Buss. Shane Buss had excellent control and velocity today, and that proved to be more than the Storm bats could handle.

Brenton Doyle and Dylan Tinsdale each were awarded game balls for their tenacity at the plate during today's game.

Mustangs Turn Up the Heat on a Cold Day
Even though the air was cool, the Mustangs were hot during Sunday's game against the Manassas Generals. The Mustangs took control early and beat the Manassas Generals 8-4 at Alabama Drive Park in Herndon.

Strong pitching was the order of the day as Shane Buss, Tyler Johnson, and Travis Croson combined for the win. Buss started for the Mustangs and delivered three solid innings on the mound. In the fourth inning, Tyler Johnson provided a fresh arm and did an excellent job setting up for Travis Croson to close out the win. Croson was dominating during his two innings of relief work, and proved to be more than the strong Generals' bats could handle.

Besides the heat coming off the mound on this cold day was the heat on the basepaths. All day long, Mustangs baserunners torched the Generals for extra bases. Tyler Johnson ignited this spark, with what was one of the most exciting plays of the season, as he expertly worked himself out of a pickle. This set the tone for the day as the Mustangs baserunners goaded the Generals into several throwing mistakes.

However, the Generals were solid in the field as they stopped quite a few hard shots off of the Mustangs' bats. Jason Alvarez, Mark Terrel, and Dylan Tinsdale all hit the ball sharply during this contest.

Michael Wigglesworth made two key outs in right field to keep the Generals from getting anything started. Tyler Fetherolf was a wall behind home plate and kept the Generals' runners in check.

Shane Buss and Travis Croson earned game balls for their outstanding work on the mound.

The Mustangs Win the Pennant!!!.....The Mustangs Win the Pennant!!!.....The Mustangs Win the Pennant!!!.....
The Fauquier Mustangs captured the first ever ODBL Fall 9U championship by defeating the Herndon Hawks and Sterling Xplosion today. The Mustangs entered today's games needing to make up some ground on the Gainesville Cannons in order to secure the championship. A win to the Hawks and a loss to the Xplosion would have meant third place for the Mustangs. If the Mustangs could win both games, they would all but asure themselves of the top spot in the league, and that is exactly what they did.

The first game saw the Mustangs defeat the Herndon Hawks 13-3. The Hawks drew first blood and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Tyler Johnson and Tyler Shaffer made two key outs at home plate to keep the Hawks lead to only 3 runs.

In the second inning, Shaffer moved from behind the plate to the mound where he struck out the side and held the Hawks scoreless. The Mustangs hitters were very patient at the plate and drew several walks. Colin Cummins blistered a ball down third base for a double and later scored and Tyler Johnson added two hits of his own. As usual, the Mustangs baserunning skills proved to be their biggest asset as they continued to pour on the runs. Jason Alvarez had an excellent game behind the plate.

Tyler Shaffer was awarded the game ball for his strong relief work. Shaffer pitched three innings for the Mustangs and held the Hawks scoreless while striking out six.

The second game saw the matchup of the season between two of the top teams in the ODBL. The Fauquier Mustangs and Sterling Xplosion went head to head to determine who would have a shot at legimately challenging the Gainesville Cannons for the league championship.

The Mustangs put one on the board in the first inning as Travis Croson made his way around the bases on a combination of steals and passed balls. The Xplosion bats were strong and answered with a run of their own in the first. In the second inning, the Mustangs hitters were patient and drew several walks. This put runners aboard for Brenton Doyle who responded with a shot to left center that emptied the bases. Doyle then put on the after-burners and scorched his way around the basepaths to record an in the park home run. The Xplosion responded and scored two runs to cut the Mustangs lead to 4-3.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Mustangs exploded for 8 runs and appeared poised to put the Xplosion away for good. However, a determined Xplosion team fought back to score two and forced the game into a fifth frame.

Shane Buss took the mound in relief of Travis Croson, who pitched three very strong innings and allowed only 3 runs. The Xplosion began to rally in the bottom of the fifth, but Buss worked himself out of the jam and held the Xplosion to just 3 runs. The Mustangs added one in the top of the sixth. Shane Buss took control in the bottom of the sixth and held a strong Xplosion team to only 2 runs, capping a dramatic 16-11 Mustangs victory.

The Mustangs offense was running on high octane today, as several Mustangs hitters had a multi-hit day. Brenton Doyle led the offense with four hits while Jason Alvarez, Shane Buss and Michael Wigglesworth each contributed with three hits a piece. Travis Croson and Michael Wigglesworth both found their way around the basepaths three times to lead the scoring. Tyler Fetherolf, Colin Cummins, Tyler Shaffer, Mark Terrel, Tyler Johnson and Dylan Tinsdale all had good trips to the plate and made their way on base to contribute to the scoring.

Brenton Doyle received the game Ball for his outstanding hitting today. Doyle led the Mustangs with four hits today that brought in several Mustangs runs.
