Coach: Place balls behind the catcher (not letting them see where you put them use as many balls as you want)
Coach: Place the team (runners) on Third (with helmets).
Coach: Place your pitchers on the mound with your base coach yelling "GO!" to runners on third.
The pitcher has to come off the mound and the catcher must find a ball with helpful communication from the pitcher. They are attempting to get the runner coming in from third.
We score the outs and runs and tally them up.
For each run: The pitching staff gets a lap as does the catching staff.
For each out: The team takes a lap.
This drill has really reduced the passed ball scores that seem to happen all the time. This drill also helps the base runners on when to slide and how to slide and tagging techniques of the pitcher and catcher we sometimes slip a first baseman into the equation to back up the pitcher on wild throws from the catcher. If someone else out there has any other versions feel free to comment.
